Beautyrest Black Mattress vs. GhostBed Luxe

GhostBed Luxe cooling mattress on a mattress foundation in a bedroom

The Beautyrest Black and GhostBed Luxe both excel at keeping you cool and providing  a superb spinal support system. The two have different constructions which make for slightly different feels.

The Beautyrest Black is an innerspring mattress series with 3 classes—L, C, and K class—each with firmness options ranging from plush to extra firm. It sleeps cool and champions spinal alignment with a perfect 10/10 score during our evaluation. Say goodbye to back pain! It also scored 9.5 on pressure relief and 9 on motion transfer. The combination of foam and coils adjust to your body’s unique shape and movement, which sets the stage for muscle relief and undisturbed sleep.

The GhostBed Luxe is an all-foam mattress that is very slightly firmer than the Black, though it’s still considered medium-firm. 7-layers of foam incorporate various cooling technologies that garnered a 9/10 score in cooling on our evaluation. The Luxe also scored 9.25 in responsiveness and spinal alignment. It doesn’t offer quite as much pressure relief as the Black, but it’s great for combination sleepers who need a bed to adapt to their changing positions.

Special Features

The standout features for these beds center on cooling. The Beautyrest Black touts their unique BlackICE 4.0 system. They don’t go into detail about what that entails, but they assure prospective buyers that it delivers on its promise. Additionally, you can opt for a cooling upgrade at extra cost. This upgrade adds Beautyrest’s RightTemp™ Memory Foam, which utilizes highly conductive carbon fiber to further disperses heat in the mattress.

The Black’s BeautyEdge® prevents sleepers from rolling off the bed, which is important for couples on a queen size or anyone who sleeps near the edge of their bed. T3 Pocketed Coil® Technology creates a supportive bounciness that contributes to this bed’s exceptional spinal support. Lastly, you can add a comfort upgrade of GelTouch® Foam, which further cushions joints and enhances cooling.

The GhostBed Luxe uses its own “ice” design in surface and foam cooling. Ghost Ice Fabric cover is cool-on-contact and works in 3 phases. The first is 1 inch of airflow technology fiber, followed by 1 inch of gel memory foam. Next is a Ghost Ice Layer, a patent pending technology that cools in response to your body’s heat. Finally, gel and latex-like support layers ensure you wake feeling rested and ache-free.

Neither the Beautyrest Black nor the GhostBed Luxe are budget mattresses; however, the Luxe is cheaper than the Black. The Luxe also comes with all it’s cooling and comfort features, while the Black offers upgrades at extra cost. It’s worth noting that Beautyrest offers free White Glove Delivery with their mattress purchases.

Beautyrest Recharge Mattresses vs. Bowery Hybrid

Brooklyn Bowery mattress

The Beautyrest Recharge mattress has been discontinued and replaced by the Beautyrest Silver line; however, some mattresses are still on the market. If you can find one, the Recharge offers 3 more firmness options than the Bowery Hybrid. Bowery’s mattress is medium-firm, featuring open cell foam and pocket coils, whereas the Recharge can be customized as Extra Firm, Firm, Luxury Firm, and Plush. Both mattresses sleep on the cool side.

Special Features

Both Beautyrest and Bowery incorporate cooling technology into their Recharge and Hybrid beds. The Recharge Surfacecool™ fabric moves heat away from your body. Its comfort layer uses either Aircool™ foam or gel infused memory foam, both of which are temperature regulating. Additionally the TruTemp™ Technology draws in your body heat and exhales extra warmth. Finally, a pocket coil system increases airflow and breathability.

The Bowery Hybrid uses quilted gel memory foam to absorb body heat. It also has a pocket coil system made up of Bowery’s Ascension™ coils that enhance breathability. Worth noting is that the Bowery Hybrid scored exceptionally high on motion transfer, spine alignment, and edge support, making it a great choice for couples and those with back pain.

The Recharge and Bowery Hybrid have similar starting prices, but the Recharge gets pricier as you go up in size. Bowery is definitely more pocketbook friendly, but Beautyrest does have a reputation for luxury.

Trial Period and Warranty

The Beautyrest Recharge is an older, discontinued series, so it’s unlikely to be covered by warranty. It’s no longer sold directly by Beautyrest, so you probably won’t get a sleep trial either. Bowery Bedding offers a 120 night risk free sleep trial and a 10-year warranty, as long as you’re the original mattress owner.

Beautyrest Platinum Mattresses vs. Awara

Awara Lifestyle

As a luxury mattress brand, Beautyrest offers 3 Platinum models and numerous firmness options, whereas the Awara mattress sticks to a reliable, organic latex, medium-firm hybrid bed.

The Platinum collection is divided into the Jaycrest, Spring Grove, and Haven Pines series. All three series prioritize a cool feel and customizable firmness. The Jaycrest only comes in Plush. Spring Grove and Haven Pines offer Plush, Luxury Firm, Extra Firm, and Pillow Top options.

The Awara mattress is a hybrid bed that naturally sleeps cool because of its latex and coil system combo. The latex foam makes for a pleasant blend of cushion and buoyancy. It bounces back quickly, which accounts for its medium-firm classification.

Special Features

Across it’s 3 series, the Platinum collection boasts a handful of cooling and contouring technologies. The Jaycrest bed is the simplest, Spring Grove adds a few more features, and Haven Pines is full Beautyrest luxury. Awara, on the other hand, uses simple, natural materials to achieve a supportive, clean sleep experience.

Each Platinum mattress features Beautyrest’s InfiniCool™ Surface technology, which redirects heat away from your body. They’re also topped with AirFeel™ Foam. Advanced models add additional cooling layers, including AirCool® Foam and gel memory foam. The comfort layers for Jaycrest and Spring Grove are relatively simple variations of memory foam, and the Haven Pine mattresses include BackCare® 3X technology. All are anchored by Beautyrest pocketed coils

Awara prides itself on using mostly natural, chemical-free materials. A plush, organic Euro top encases the mattress, and is made from New Zealand wool and cotton. A thick layer of Dunlop Latex Foam—harvested from rubber trees—keeps you cool and your spine aligned while sleeping. It’s also hypoallergenic. Finally, Awara uses zoned support in the pocket coil system. 5 separate zones target different parts of the body to give them tailored support.

Neither brand is particularly budget-friendly, but Awara is definitely a better choice for the average shopper. Beautyrest’s Platinum beds hit a more luxury price point.

Beautyrest Silver Mattresses vs. Casper Hybrid

Casper Hybrid Hero image

Beautyrest’s Silver collection targets pressure points and motion responsiveness. The layers of memory foam and pocket coils also work to keep you cool. They offer 2 hybrid models—the BRS900 (available in plush, medium, medium-firm, and extra firm, with pillow top and euro top options) and BRS900-C (available in plush, medium, and extra firm with pillow top options).

The Casper Hybrid provides a medium-firm feel. It works to respond to your body’s movements while supporting your weight and unique curves. During our mattress evaluation, the Casper Hybrid earned a standout 9.5 for responsiveness and 9.25 for spinal alignment. That means you can expect to feel exceptional support without compromising comfort. It also earned an 8.5 for cooling, so you won’t wake up sweating.

Special Features

Beautyrest Silver mattresses feature a special antimicrobial top layer that also wicks away moisture. They call this their DualCool™ Technology. The original Silver series stacks layers of plush comfort foam, breathable AirFeel® Foam, and gel memory foam with extra lumbar support. The Silver-C series adds Dynamic Response Memory Foam to reduce pressure on joints. Finally, a thick layer of pocket coils enhance motion isolation and allover support.

Casper’s hybrid mattress provides strategic support and contouring for 3 spinal zones. A softer layer of foam cushions the shoulders, while a firmer layer supports the hips, waist, and lumbar region. This also improves spinal alignment, keeping your back from arching too much. A layer of AirScape™ Perforated foam keeps air circulating, so you don’t get too hot. Further airflow is possible with an anchor layer of steel coils.

The Beautyrest Silver line is accessible for the average buyer. Similarly, Casper’s Hybrid mattress is very reasonably priced. Plus, Casper often runs discounts on their products and offers free shipping and returns (except in Alaska and Hawaii).

Beautyrest Silver:

  • 100-night trial period
  • Warranty applies only to manufacture defects

Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress vs. Saatva

Saatva mattress product shot

Beautyrest’s Hybrid line is one of the more diverse. It includes 4 models: BR800 X-10 (offered only in medium), BRX1000-C (offered only in plush), BRX1000-IP (offered in plush, medium, and extra firm), and the luxury BRX3000-IM (offered in ultra plush, medium, medium-firm, and firm). Like most of their collections, the hybrid line runs cool due to proprietary technologies and a breathable coil system

Saatva’s hybrid mattress is also available in multiple firmness levels. Buyers can choose from plush soft, luxury firm, and firm. The coil system provides excellent support. In fact, this bed scored a 9.5/10 on spinal alignment in our lab evaluation. Mattress Advisor also included the Saatva Hybrid on our list of top-rated beds for side sleepers. The cushy euro pillow top certainly helps create an airy, luxury feel.

Special Features

Each of the Beautyrest Hybrid mattress models feature specialized materials. The simplest version, the X-10, is topped with cooling gel memory foam that absorbs motion. The 1000-C and IP have cooling fabrics, and the 1000-IM spotlights RightTemp Memory Foam with carbon fiber for temperature regulation.

The Saatva Hybrid features targeted Lumbar Zone wire and memory foam sandwiched between 2 layers of responsive coils. The upper layer of densely packed, innerspring coils quickly conforms to your body’s movements and the lower layer of durable, steel coils prolongs mattress life and prevents sagging. A frame of thick foam provides edge support and a euro pillow top adds luxurious comfort.

Beautyrest’s Hybrid line spans a wide spectrum of prices. The basic BR800 X-10 is very budget-friendly, while the advanced BRX3000-IM is priced for luxury shoppers. The Saatva Hybrid price is comparable to the BR800 X-10, 1000-C, and 1000-IP. Plus you get free white glove delivery with your mattress purchase.

Beautyrest Mattresses vs Alternative Mattresses

Beautyrest has a 100+ year reputation for high quality mattresses, so why consider alternatives? An obvious reason is savings. Beautyrest crafts a durable, technologically advanced bed, but high-quality alternatives are available at a more accessible price point.

Some customers may also prefer the expedited shipping and set-up experience of bed-in-a-box brands. Compressed and rolled mattresses initially fit much better in tight spaces, including doorways and stairwells.

Finally, many customers rest more soundly knowing their bed is covered under warranty for any surprise cracks or impressions from normal wear. Beautyrest only covers manufacturer defects under their warranty. Additionally, Beautyrest only offers a 100-night sleep trial, while other brands offer anywhere from 120-nights to a full year.

Beautyrest is undoubtedly worthy of its long-standing, world-class presence in the mattress market. We hope this roundup of mattresses provides you with several tested and true great mattress alternatives. Whichever bed you buy, these mattresses will all leave you sleeping soundly.
