How To Choose The Right Zinus Mattress
When you are purchasing a mattress that you can’t test out first, it helps to have some criteria to help you choose. Below are some things to consider, to help you choose which Zinus mattress is right for you.
Sleep Position
Many experts suggest starting with your sleep position in order to choose the right mattress. Are you a side sleeper? A stomach or back sleeper? Do you change positions during the night? Most people have a dominant position in which they sleep, and mattress firmness is directly correlated. If you are a side sleeper you need a medium firmness mattress, and can do well on either a spring, memory foam or hybrid. Any of the Zinus mattresses we profiled will work except the extra-firm. If you are a back or stomach sleeper you can go firmer, and even enjoy the icoil which is extra firm.
Firmness Preference
Sleep position aside, many people know their preferences and like a particular firmness in a mattress. You may know you sleep best on a softer cloud-like mattress or maybe you have back issues and want an extra-firm. If you are not sure what you like it never hurts to give it some thought in relation to what you are sleeping on currently. If you like what you have, go with that same firmness again. Medium firm mattresses are a safe bet for most people, especially because the large majority of us are side sleepers and medium firm is our best fit.
Bed Size
Determine bed size early on. You don’t want to fall in love with a bed that only comes in full, queen, or king when you need a California king, or a bed that doesn’t have extra-long twin as an option when you want specifically that. Check sizes as a first course in either including or excluding a mattress.
Type of Mattress
Of the mattresses we profiled they are all foam or hybrids with innerspring bases. Start by asking yourself what you prefer? Some people have a strong leaning toward an innerspring mattress, it may be familiar, it can have more structure, can run cooler, and for some be easier to get in and out of. Others love the no motion transfer of a foam mattress, the way it holds you and supports your pressure points. Foam can range from soft to firm, to meet the needs of every sleeping position.
Weight
Your personal weight is a factor in choosing the right mattress. If you are larger and heavier you may need a slightly firmer, thicker or denser mattress as you will sink further into it. If you are 125 lbs. or under you can do fine with a mattress like the Ultima Comfort 8-Inch Memory Foam Mattress. If you are in the range of 125 – 200 lbs., both innerspring and foam can work great.
Thickness
The depth or thickness of a mattress can vary from 6-16 inches or more. The Zinus mattresses profiled above are from 8-12 inches which is in the average range. There are different things to consider in regard to thickness, like what depth sheets do you have, and will they fit the next bed? You may not want to buy all new sheets in addition to a new mattress. What will work with your bed frame? What do you like the look of? How high does it place your bed off the floor? If you get a 10-inch mattress like the Zinus Extra Firm iCoil and you have a low platform bed, will that be the look you really want and love, or will it be too low a profile for the room and difficult to get in and out of? Think through some of your options with height before deciding on a mattress thickness.
Price
The Zinus mattresses all have a reasonable price point, but it doesn’t hurt to determine what you want to spend before you start the process. Establish a budget and look at mattresses in that range. If you can’t get the features you want or need, then consider adjusting the range.
Summary
Zinus offers an exceptionally comfortable line of mattresses at a reasonable price-point. Both memory foam, and hybrids with pocketed coils, we have profiled different categories including their best smelling, best layered foam, most luxurious, best extra-firm, and best low-profile mattresses for your review. Best Zinus Mattresses on Amazon FAQs
Who is Zinus owned by?
Because Zinus boasts many of the best-selling mattresses on Amazon, many people incorrectly assume Amazon owns Zinus. This South Korean company is actually publicly traded on the Korea Stock Exchange (KRX), with a majority share (46% as of 11/29/2022) owned by the National Pension Service of Korea.
Zinus’s CEO, Youn Jae Lee, started the company–initially a designer and manufacturer of tents–in 1979. He eventually expanded into the furniture and mattress market. Zinus seeks to make affordable products, and its mattresses are no exception to this rule. Zinus is one of our favorite budget mattresses because of the level of quality they offer at a low price point.
Is Zinus mattress good for back pain?
Zinus mattresses are good for back pain. Most Zinus mattresses are made from memory foam, which conforms to your body and relieves pressure for side sleepers. These all-foam mattresses offer dense base layers of foam that support spinal alignment. Zinus also offers hybrid mattresses, which are great for back pain because of the added support they provide.
Our favorite Zinus mattress for back pain is the Zinus 12-inch Memory Foam Green Tea Mattress. Its layers of pressure-relieving comfort foam cradle your shoulders and hips while the base layers support your spine.
