Compare Design

The Casper Original Hybrid and Casper Nova Hybrid have very similar builds, with the exception that the Nova comes with an additional layer. The Original Hybrid has a medium firmness (5/10) and the Nova Hybrid is medium-soft (4/10).

The Casper Original Hybrid is a three-layer mattress, consisting of foam layers and springs. The first layer contains Casper’s signature AirScape™ layer, which resembles Swiss cheese with its hole-punched spots. These holes allow air to pass through the mattress, rather than staying stuck in the foam. The mattress also includes a Zoned Support™ layer that offers ergonomic benefits, as well as springs that provide more firmness than the Nova Hybrid. The Original Hybrid has a design similar to the Original all-foam mattress, with the exception of a spring system at the bottom instead of a durable base layer.

Like the Casper Original Hybrid, the Nova Hybrid includes foam layers and springs. This four-layer mattress starts with two layers of AirScape, giving it an extra cooling feel. It also includes a Zoned Support Pro layer with four additional ergonomic zones. At the bottom is a spring system that promotes airflow and breathability.

  2. Second AirScape Layer: Casper includes another AirScape layer to ensure you don’t overheat when you sleep and incorporates three ergonomic zones to support the different regions of your body.
  3. Zoned Support Pro Layer: This advanced Zoned Support layer allows your shoulders to sink into the bed while supporting your lower body.
  4. Springs: The bottom of the mattress contains multiple springs, which give the bed a lift and provide more cooling properties.

Edge Support

Finding a mattress with sturdy edges is particularly important if you like to spread out at night and find yourself often hanging over the edge. The Casper Original Hybrid earned a near-perfect 9.5/10 in the edge support category, while the Casper Nova Hybrid scored considerably lower with a 6.5/10. For those of you who tend to sleep in the middle of the bed, this isn’t really a concern, but for couples and restless sleepers, we recommend going with the Casper Original Hybrid.

Responsiveness

In our responsiveness evaluation, we look at how well a mattress allows you to change positions. All-foam beds tend to trap you in their layers, whereas hybrids tend to be bouncier. We found both the Casper Original Hybrid and Casper Nova Hybrid to do well in this test. Either would work great for combination sleepers.

Cooling

Hot sleepers know how important it is to find a bed that doesn’t trap heat. The Casper Nova Hybrid beat the Casper Original Hybrid by half a point in cooling, thanks to its additional AirScape™ layer, making it a better option for those who overheat. However, since the point difference is very minor, both make great options for those wanting a cooling mattress.

Which Is the Best Mattress for You?

Sleeping Position

With its medium firmness, the Casper Original Hybrid should work well for side, back, and combination sleepers. Side sleepers will love its pressure relief and back sleepers will appreciate the spine alignment.

Both beds are very responsive, making them excellent for combination sleepers. However, the Nova is not the best option for stomach sleepers since it isn’t firm enough to support their hips.

Sleep Environment

Staying cool at night is a must if you live in a hot climate or tend to overheat. While both the Casper Original Hybrid and Casper Nova Hybrid scored above average for this category, the Nova did slightly better at keeping our testers cool.

It’s also helpful to consider how a bed will work with you and your sleeping partners. For those who sleep with a significant other or pet, it’s important to find a mattress with great motion transfer. Both the Original Hybrid and Nova Hybrid scored 9/10s for this feature.

Budget

When shopping for a mattress, it’s important to stay within your budget. Of the two Casper mattresses, the Casper Original Hybrid is the most affordable. For a mattress with an even lower price tag, consider the all-foam Casper Original mattress, which costs $1,295 for a queen size.

Customer Service

Both the Casper Original Hybrid and Casper Nova Hybrid come with a 100-night sleep trial so that you can try them out from home. This sleep trial is slightly shorter than others on the market but still gives you plenty of time to see how it feels.

Casper also offers a 10-year limited warranty for all of its mattresses. It covers manufacturing defects, such as cracks in the foam layers and indentations greater than 1″. Again, some companies offer longer warranty periods, but since it’s recommended to replace your mattress every 7-10 years, a 10-year warranty might be enough.
