Compare Design

Understanding what goes into each layer of your mattress is important so that you know how it will feel. Both the Casper and Casper Select are all-foam mattresses with very similar design and firmness levels.

The Casper Select is a four-layer mattress made entirely of CertiPUR-US certified foam. Its first layer consists of a breathable open-cell foam that helps promote airflow. The core of the mattress provides pressure relief and consists of a high-density foam layer and zoned transition foam. Finally, it has a durable support foam to support the entire mattress.

Like the Select, the Casper starts with a breathable top layer and also uses CertiPUR-US certified foam. In its core is a zoned support layer with three ergonomic zones to provide spine alignment. The last layer consists of a durable base to help resist sagging.

Responsiveness

The Casper Original scored a perfect 10/10 in our responsiveness evaluation, making it the prime candidate for a combination sleeper who switches their positions throughout the night. The Casper Select also scored high in this category, with an 8.5/10, but if you want a surface that’s easy to move around on, the Casper Original is your better option.

Motion Transfer

While sleeping with a partner can be nice when it’s cold, feeling their every movement ripple through the mattress can leave you feeling steamed. Couples need a mattress that limits motion transfer so that their sleep isn’t interrupted by their partner’s tossing and turning.

Earning a near-perfect 9.5/10 in our motion transfer test, the Casper Select’s extra foam layer does a great job of isolating movement. The Casper also did well in this category, earning an 8/10. Either mattress would be great for couples, but especially light co-sleepers should consider the Casper Select.

Spine Alignment

Both the Casper and Casper Select scored high in our spine alignment test thanks to their zoned support layers. Those with back or neck pain will likely find relief from either of these mattresses since it helps promote a healthy neutral alignment.

Which Is the Best Mattress for You?

Determining which mattress is best for you depends on your sleeping position, body type, budget, and a host of other factors. Use the information in this comparison to view these mattresses in the context of what matters to you most.

Sleeping Position

As medium-firm mattresses, both the Casper Select and Casper work well for most sleeping positions. Back sleepers will get great spine alignment thanks to their zoned support layers and side sleepers will find pressure relief in their shoulder areas. We also think both mattresses are great for combination sleepers since they scored high in responsiveness, particularly the Casper.

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you may want to find a firmer mattress that’s more supportive for your hips. Check out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers for a better option.

Sleep Environment

Finding a mattress that isolates your partner’s movement is important if you sleep with your significant other or a pet. The Casper Select received a near-perfect score for motion transfer, making it the better option for couples. However, the Casper still performed pretty well in this category, earning an 8/10.

Another important factor to consider when buying a mattress is whether it will do a good job of maintaining an ideal temperature. Once again, the Casper Select did slightly better than the Casper but both performed pretty average for cooling. Since these are both all-foam mattresses, they won’t keep you as cool as a traditional innerspring or hybrid mattress. If you’re a hot sleeper, consider one of Casper’s hybrid models, like the Casper Hybrid.

Budget

At this point in your mattress search, you’ve probably been drawn to Casper thanks to its high-quality, affordable mattresses. While both the Casper and Casper Select have affordable prices, the Casper Select is the better option for those on a tight budget. A queen-size model costs almost half of what a Casper queen-size model does. Keep in mind that Casper also offers financing options through Affirm for its Original mattress.

Buying Experience

Since the Casper Select is offered through Costco, your buying experience may be slightly different than when buying the Original mattress from Casper. Both mattresses come with 10-year warranties, but the Casper Select is covered by Costco’s 90-day return policy rather than Casper’s standard 100-night sleep trial.
