If you are looking into new mattresses, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and Casper original are great places to start. Brooklyn Bedding is a family-owned mattress company that pioneered bed-in-a-box delivery. Casper began as a memory foam mattress company, and now sells a collection of sleep products that include nap pillows and glow lights.
We’ve tested both the Brooklyn Signature and Casper mattresses in our lab, and now want to help you decide between the two.

Casper Mattress Review Highlights
- Zoned Support: Casper’s comfort layer provides targeted support, so you get the right level of softness or firmness exactly where you need it.
- Pressure Relief: The Casper mattress is made of memory foam and polyfoam layers that cushion pressure points, making it a great choice for side sleepers and stomach sleepers.
- Responsive: We gave the Casper mattress a perfect 10/10 during our responsiveness test. It doesn’t hold body impressions like traditional memory foam, so you can change position as often as you need and never feel trapped in the mattress surface.
- Medium-Firm Feel: Casper has a medium-firm feel, or 6/10 on the firmness scale. This firmness level holds a broad appeal among consumers because it is both supportive and cushioning, making it a good fit for all sleeping positions.
- Breathable: Casper aerates the top layer of memory foam in their mattress to enable body heat to flow through the mattress layers and away from your body. It also has a breathable mattress cover.
- Other Choices: You can check out other Casper mattress models, including the Element, Hybrid, Nova Hybrid, and Wave Hybrid.

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Review Highlights
- Cooling: Brooklyn bedding designed their Signature mattress with a breathable cover and innerspring layer. Innerspring layers have lots of hollow airways, enabling body heat to escape from the core of the mattress.
- Edge Support: The Brooklyn Signature supports your full body weight across the entire mattress surface. You can stretch all the way to the edge of the bed without worrying about rolling off.
- Firmness Options: Brooklyn Bedding offers their Signature mattress in three different firmness levels – soft, medium, and firm. You can choose whichever feel is the most comfortable to you.
- Pressure Point Relief: Each of the firmness options offered for the Brooklyn Signature mattress provide pressure relief and contouring to areas like shoulders and hips. This is important for all sleeping positions, and especially for side and stomach sleepers.
- Other Options: You can also shop other Brooklyn Bedding models, including the Bowery Hybrid, Brooklyn Aurora, Bloom Hybrid, Spartan, Titan, and Plank.

Inside the Casper Original Mattress

- Mattress Cover: The Casper mattress cover is extra soft polyester fabric made from recycled bottles. A knit sock under the cover works as a non-chemical flame retardant.
- Airscape™ Foam: The top layer is extra plush polyfoam, and it creates a lot of the pressure relief you feel when you first lay down on the mattress. Perforations in the foam create airway channels that enable heat to travel away from your body.
- Memory Foam Layer: The middle foam layer features the Zoned Support we highlighted earlier – it’s softer near your shoulders and firmer near your hips, which keeps your spine aligned and cushions your pressure points.
- Durable Base: The base is made of thick, firm foam that acts as a durable foundation and defense against sagging.
Inside the Signature Mattress

- Mattress Cover: The Brooklyn Signature mattress cover is a breathable quilted fabric and foam layer that resists body impressions. Brooklyn Bedding uses a fabric sock made of silica, rayon, polyester, and cotton as their fire retardant.
- TitanFlex Foam: The comfort layer is made from hyper elastic foam designed to quickly respond to changes in movement. Not only is it antibacterial, but it also is infused with cooling TitaniumGel.
- Energex Foam: This transition layer is made with high-density foam that contours to your body and keeps you from sinking into the coil layer below.
- Ascension Coils: A thick layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils improve motion isolation and add durability to the mattress construction.
- Support Foam: A thin layer of dense, durable foam keeps the whole mattress level and supported.

Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is an important category for couples because it measures how well a mattress isolates motion from one side of the bed to the other. Casper earned a higher score in this category, so it’s a better choice for couples, especially if one or both partners are a combo sleeper or light sleeper.
The Brooklyn Signature also scored above average in this category, just not quite as high as Casper.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is the most important factor for side sleepers. Extra strain on pressure points can cause stiffness, pain, and sleep issues. Both mattresses scored really high for pressure relief, although the Brooklyn Signature received a near perfect score.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness indicates how well a mattress adjusts to your changes in position. Both mattresses scored high in this category, but Casper received a perfect score! It is the better option for combo sleepers or anyone who is concerned about feeling stuck in their mattress.
With that said, the Brooklyn Signature mattress has the natural springiness of coils, so while it doesn’t have as high of a responsiveness score, you get quite a bit more bounce.
Cooling
If you are a hot sleeper, the Brooklyn Signature mattress is the better choice. The combination of a breathable cover, cooling gel, and a coil layer enables body heat to easily escape from the mattress, rather than getting trapped.
The Casper mattress received an average score for cooling, so it is still a good choice for the average sleeper, but hot sleepers should stick with the Brooklyn Signature.
The Long and Short: Which Mattress Wins?
We recommend the Brooklyn Signature soft or medium mattress for side sleepers, the Casper mattress for stomach sleepers, the Casper or Brooklyn Signature firm mattress for back sleepers, the Brooklyn Signature for hot sleepers, the Casper for combo sleepers and couples, and Brooklyn Bedding for customers who need custom sizes.
Since both of these brands are bed in a box, it can be tricky to choose when you’ve never actually touched the mattresses. That’s why you get a sleep trial. If you need extra time deciding, Brooklyn Bedding gives you 120 nights, while Casper gives you 100 nights. Brooklyn Bedding also has retail partners in Arizona, Utah, Texas, New York, Montana, Minnesota, and Illinois.
Ultimately, choose the mattress that best meets your top 2-3 sleep needs. Both beds are highly regarded by customers and performed well in our review process, so you’ll get a good night’s sleep on either one!
