  • Both are medium-firm mattresses, making them compatible with many kinds of sleepers. Medium falls in the middle of the firmness scale, offering a nice, balanced feel.

Compare Mattress Sizes

Both the Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid come in sizes Twin through California King. The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress is 2″ thicker than the original Casper mattress, something to consider when evaluating how much support you need in a mattress. Heavier people (250+ lbs) tend to need thicker and firmer mattresses to support their larger body frame, so the Casper Wave Hybrid would be the best mattress for heavyweight sleepers.

Compare Casper vs. Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress Prices

The Casper Wave Hybrid is more expensive and has a higher price point than the original Casper mattress, but that’s because of its advanced design. The Casper Wave Hybrid  is enhanced to provide even more targeted support while you sleep. The Casper, though, is one of the best bangs for your mattress buck. It’s nearly under $1,000, and for the level of pressure relief and zoned support you get, that’s quite a steal.

Compare the Inside Layers

The inside construction of the Casper and Casper Wave Hybrid are pretty different. Let’s take a deeper dive into how their layers compare.

The Casper is your classic memory foam mattress with three layers of soft foam built for pressure relief and responsiveness. A zoned support memory foam layer provides extra support, and is the reason why the Casper offers such exceptional spine alignment. Because this is an all-foam mattress, it can run hot to some. Contrarily, the Casper Wave Hybrid features 5 premium layers of foam and coils. The main difference in their construction is the Casper Wave Hybrid’s pocket-coil system that assists with airflow and temperature regulation. Another major difference between the two is the Casper Wave Hybrid’s latex foam layer, which also works to keep you cool and provide a bouncy feel. The Casper Wave Hybrid has more of an innerspring mattress feel to it because of the coils.

If you can afford to spend a little more, the Casper Wave Hybrid’s construction is worth it. It offers all the same pressure relief, spine alignment and responsiveness, with the addition of cooling features, a more luxurious feel, and more durable support. The Casper Original mattress is still a well-rounded bed for those on a stricter budget; it’s merely the more affordable version of the Casper Wave Hybrid, but offers the same level of pressure relief and spine alignment. Both beds work for all body types, but the Casper Wave Hybrid mattress is better for heavier sleepers.

Inside the Casper

The threelayers of the Casper make the Casper feel contouring, springy, pressure relieving, and breathable.

  • Open-Cell Foam: Plush top layer that offers breathability by using Airscape foam.
  • Zoned Support layer: Comfort layer that features 3 ergonomic zones for targeted support and even weight distribution. Provides gentler support under pressure points and firmer support for your body’s core.
  • Durable Support Foam: Makes up the base layer and stabilizes the mattress with structure and reinforced support.

Inside the Casper Wave Hybrid

The 5 layers of the Casper Wave mattress include open-cell foam that’s breathable to keep you cool and a newly designed top layer that feels soft to the touch. And with a durable coil system, the Wave is built with targeted support to keep you comfortable while you sleep.

  • Comfort Foam: Top layer that uses responsive comfort material to make climbing into bed a dream.
  • Breathable Latex Foam: Second layer that offers buoyancy and breathability by dispersing heat and regulating temperature.
  • Pressure-Relieving Memory Foam: Softly cradles pressure points to provide relief.
  • High Resiliency Foam: Crafted with gel pods for targeted support and durability.
  • Pocket-Coil Spring System: Supports, responds and isolates motion by using strong coils to push back against your body.

Let’s examine where these mattresses stood out in testing.

Responsiveness

This is one category the Casper outperformed its expensive sister model. The Casper earned a perfect score, meaning if you’re a combination sleeper who tosses and turns frequently, the Casper makes it easy to move around on and will support you in all of your movements.

Cooling

The Casper Wave Hybrid scored a near-perfect score in cooling, which is no surprise considering its hybrid design. The Casper fell short when it came to cooling, so hot sleepers beware.

Pressure Relief

Both mattresses earned identical scores of 8.5 for pressure relief. For side sleeping, you can’t go wrong with either pick. Back sleepers would also receive the support and relief they need from either of these beds.

Summary

So who is the winner between the Casper vs. Casper Wave Hybrid mattress? Both beds scored high in our testing, but the main difference is in their construction and price. Hot sleepers and big spenders should consider the Wave Hybrid, and average sleepers on a budget would enjoy the Casper.

The Original Casper is the first and most popular mattress of all the Casper mattresses – although it’s still different today than it was when it first launched. Most notably, the Casper mattress now comes with a Zoned Support feature designed to provide the right amount of support where your body needs it most. Most all-foam beds do run hot, though, so keep this in mind if you need a cooling mattress. Also keep in mind that there may be some off-gassing when you first unbox, but this dissipates rather quickly.

The Casper Wave Hybrid is the higher-end (more expensive) model offered by Casper. It’s a luxury mattress and designed to provide added pressure relief and ergonomic benefits like spine alignment. The Wave Hybrid is a great mattress for those looking for a more firm feel, advanced pressure relieving properties, and cooling features.

Both the Casper and Casper Wave are high-quality mattresses with zoned support and similar feels, though the Casper Wave is more expensive, thicker, and incorporates latex and pocket coils for a more firm, bouncy, supportive feel. They also offer good motion isolation, making them nice picks for couples. But which one is the best mattress? The Casper Wave is great for heavier people or those who need more support due to pain points, although the original Casper model makes a great option for the average sleeper who may be on a more strict budget.
