Even though the Layla and Casper mattresses are memory foam beds, they’re constructions are quite different. Let’s take a look at what sets these beds apart.
Casper is a 3-layer, medium-firm, memory foam bed. What makes the Casper mattress an excellent option for every sleeping position is a second layer of zoned support foam. Extra cushion at the shoulders relieves pressure for side sleepers, while a sturdier core that resists sagging supports back and stomach sleepers.
The Layla mattress is one of very few flippable all-foam mattresses. Not only does a flippable mattress have twice the sleeping surface that can boost longevity, but the Layla has a different firmness level on each side. The soft side rates a 4 on the 1-10 firmness scale and the firm side a 7 out of 10.
Four layers of foam make up the Layla. The softer side has a thick comfort layer above a zoned support transition layer, delivering exceptional cushion and a deep, encompassing feel. The firmer side has a thin layer of foam directly atop the firm support layer for a supportive sleeping experience.
Let’s examine how each layer of the Casper influences its performance and feel.

There is no clear winner when comparing the Layla and Casper mattresses. Each of these beds performed highly during our in-house testing and evaluation, and they both work well for similar sleepers: those who weigh less than 230 pounds.
The Casper mattress is better for sleepers with back pain. Its ability to keep the spine aligned no matter the sleeping position is unmatched by the Layla or most other mattresses. It’s also one of the most responsive memory foam mattresses that we’ve ever tested, so you won’t feel stuck as you switch positions at night.
The Layla also caters to every sleeping position. Its flippable design means that side, back, and stomach sleepers can all find what they need. Additionally, with a soft and firm side, the Layla is one of the few beds that accommodates changing needs—such as those of growing children or pregnant women. Plus, it offers slightly better pressure relief than the Casper, so side sleepers with shoulder or hip pain may find more relief with the Layla.
Both mattress companies come with free shipping and free returns, although Layla’s shipping policy and trial period are more generous than Casper’s. Nevertheless, you can try either of these mattresses in your own bedroom, helping to make online mattress shopping less stressful.
