Let’s take a look at the construction of each mattress and how it influences the feel and performance.
The Casper mattress is a medium-firm memory foam mattress whose firmness falls at a 6 on the 1-10 firmness scale. The feel is one of plush comfort along the mattress surface with sufficient support to limit sinkage at the hips.
This mattress excels at supporting every sleeping position thanks to its zoned transition foam. Softer foam along the top and bottom third of the mattress and firmer foam along the middle promote optimal body alignment. Side sleepers are met with the plush give they need at the shoulders, stomach sleepers enjoy added trunk support, and back sleepers do well with the balanced feel from head-to-toe.
While the Casper’s construction makes it work for most sleepers, its minimal comfort layers don’t deliver the cushion needed for those who weigh more than 230 pounds.
The Loom & Leaf is a luxury memory foam mattress that comes in two firmness levels. The relaxed firm is a medium-firm mattress, falling at a 6 on the 1-10 firmness scale. The firm is aptly named, rating at a firm 8 out of 10. The relaxed firm is best for side sleepers and back sleepers who enjoy ample cushion, while the firm is great for stomach sleepers and back sleepers who prefer a firmer feel.
Both comfort layers are made from high-density memory foam that combine to create the traditional memory foam cradling feel. Together, these layers measure 4.5”, making the Loom & Leaf one of the best memory foam mattresses for heavy sleepers. However, lightweight side sleepers are likely to find even the relaxed-firm option too firm.

There is no one mattress that’s perfect for everybody. Instead, the right fit is based on your habits, preferences, and body shape. As such, even though the Casper performed better in most categories during our testing, the Loom & Leaf is still a better option for certain sleepers.
We recommend the Loom & Leaf for sleepers who love the deep hugging feel of traditional memory foam. Its feel is much like that of mattresses that cost well over two times as much as the Loom & Leaf. Its generous comfort layers make it one of the best all-foam beds for sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. And with two firmness levels, the Loom & Leaf accommodates the needs of most sleepers.
The original Casper mattress is one of the most popular bed-in-a-box mattresses, and for good reason. Its high-quality construction, impressive performance during our testing, and competitive price point make it an incredible value. With zoned support and a plush comfort layer, it works well for light-to-average-weight side, back, and stomach sleepers. It’s also one of the best beds that we’ve tested for couples, thanks to its ease-of-movement, motion dampening abilities, and sturdy edges.
Both Casper and Loom & Leaf beds come with free shipping and returns during their respective trial periods. What this means is that you can try out either of these beds with zero financial risk.
