Casper vs Tulo Highlights

Key Similarities

  • Motion Transfer: Both the Casper and Tulo provide great motion transfer, scoring 8/10, making them a great choice for couples or anyone who sleeps with a partner.
  • Set-Up: The Casper and Tulo are bed-in-a-box mattresses, which means that once you unbox it and let it expand to its full size, you’re good to go. Note that there may be a slight off-gassing smell, which should go away after a few hours.
  • Responsiveness: If you switch sleeping positions during the night, then you’ll need a responsive mattress. Luckily, Casper and Tulo are both quite responsive, making them great choices for combination sleepers and anybody who tosses and turns.
  • Spine Alignment: Keeping your spine in a healthy, neutral alignment is crucial for good sleep posture and preventing back pain. The Casper Original and Tulo each provide excellent spine alignment, helping ensure you stay aligned as you sleep.

Key Differences

  • Cooling: The Tulo mattress is a bit better at cooling than the Casper. Keep in mind that they’re both all-foam mattresses, so neither will be as cool as the typical hybrid or innerspring mattress.
  • Pressure Relief: The original Casper comes in one firmness level, which is 6/10, or medium-firm. Depending on which firmness level you choose for the Tulo, you may not experience the same kind of pressure relief you get with the Casper. Firmer versions may actually lead to more pressure building up.
  • Sleep Trial: Casper’s sleep trial lasts for 100 nights, while Tulo’s sleep trial lasts for 120 nights, giving you almost three weeks longer to test out your mattress.
  • Delivery Time: The Casper should arrive  in 2-7 business days after purchase, while it can take up to two weeks for you to receive your Tulo mattress.

Edge Support

The Casper (9.5/10) and Tulo (9/10) each scored very well during edge support tests. If you sleep near the edge or have a sleep partner, both of these mattresses should serve you well. Note that many foam mattresses don’t feature this level of edge support.

Set-Up

While they are both bed-in-a-box mattresses and have very similar set-up processes, the Tulo has been known to fully expand in only a few minutes, while the Casper Original can take multiple hours to expand to its full size.

Spine Alignment

Since the Tulo is available in three different firmness options, spine alignment performance will depend on which firmness you choose. The medium-firm option is the best for spine alignment, as it boasts a similar firmness level to the Casper and is firm enough to support your spine and posture while still providing great comfort.

Which Is the Best Mattress for You?

Just as the Casper and Tulo differ in design, they also differ in how they accommodate sleeping positions, provide cooling, and match up with your budget.

Sleeping Position

Casper’s Original comes in only one firmness level, 6/10, which works for most sleeping positions. Since the Tulo comes in three different firmness levels, whichever one you select will work differently for each sleeping position: the softer option is best for side sleepers, the medium-firm option (most comparable to the Casper) works well with any sleeping position, and the firm option is best for stomach and back sleepers who need a bit more support.

Cooling

Foam mattresses are not well-known for sleeping cool. If you’re looking for a cooling mattress, a traditional innerspring or hybrid mattress may be a better option.

Budget

Tulo is significantly cheaper than Casper, making it a better choice for those on a budget. If cost isn’t a big issue, you’re in a better position to judge them on their other merits.
