In this section, we’ll review the highlights of each Puffy mattress. You’ll learn what they feel like, how much they cost, and what sets them apart from one another.

Puffy Mattress

The original Puffy mattress is a 3-layer memory foam mattress. The medium-firm feel is great for the average sleeper, with side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers all doing well on the Puffy. Its patented technology creates an incredibly responsive mattress that excels at motion isolation, making it a good fit for couples.

  • Type: Memory foam
  • Specifics: 3 layers, 10”
  • Price Range: $795-$1,350
  • Best For: Couples; combination sleepers

Puffy Lux Mattress

The Puffy Lux mattress is one step up from the classic Puffy. With an additional layer of high-density foam that performs exceptionally well at pressure relief, the Puffy Lux is one of the best mattresses we’ve tested for side sleepers. Another advantage of this patented foam is its ability to support a healthy body posture, keeping the spine properly aligned. We love the Puffy Lux for sleepers with neck or back pain.  The Puffy Lux is also available as a hybrid.

  • Type: Memory foam
  • Specifics: 4 layers, 12”
  • Price Range: $1,145-$1,995

Which Puffy Is Best for You?

Many factors—including sleeping position, personal preferences, body size, and more—work together to determine what mattress is best for you. In this section, we will explore what mattress is best depending on your needs.

Best Puffy by Sleep Position

How you sleep is the most important factor to consider when mattress shopping. Here’s which Puffy mattress is best based on your sleep habits.

Puffy Puffy Lux Puffy Royal
Side Sleepers
Back Sleepers
Stomach Sleepers
Combination Sleepers

Thanks to Puffy’s pressure-relieving foam, all three of their models work well for side sleepers. But Puffy’s softest mattress, the Puffy Royal, tends to be the best option for side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds. As a back sleeper, you want a balance between pressure relief and support. Each of the 3 Puffy mattresses works for back sleepers. To keep the hips from sinking in too low, stomach sleepers need a firm bed. If you sleep on your front, the original Puffy is worth considering. Combination sleepers reposition a lot at night. If you’re a combination sleeper, you need a mattress that’s responsive, meaning that it quickly adjusts to your movements. Luckily all three Puffys are responsive.

Because Puffy beds are 100% memory foam, they don’t offer the support that heavier sleepers need to keep the spine aligned. We recommend a hybrid mattress if you’re a plus-size side sleeper. Every Puffy mattress utilizes technology designed to promote a cool night’s sleep. The coolest of these beds is the Puffy Lux. It scored 8.75/10 in our cooling evaluation.

The Puffy Lux isn’t just the best Puffy mattress for back pain, but one of the best beds for back pain on the market today. At our in-house testing facility, the Puffy Lux earned a score of 9/10 for spine alignment and 9.5/10 for pressure relief. These scores demonstrate the Puffy Lux’s potential to deliver cushion and support where you need it, easing back pain and stiffness.

Take a Look Inside Each Puffy Mattress

Let’s break down what each Puffy mattress looks like on the inside. Unique materials are what make each Puffy mattress best for certain sleepers.

Puffy – 3 Layers – 10” – 69 lbs. for queen size

  • 2” Cooling Cloud Gel-Infused Memory Foam: The upper comfort layer is formulated to keep you cool. It’s breathable and cool-to-the-touch.
  • 2” ClimateComfort Memory Foam: Puffy’s ClimateComfort memory foam was created to fix a problem that comes with traditional memory foam. Because memory foam is heat-sensitive, its comfort level tends to change with room temperature. ClimateComfort retains its feel no matter the temperature. This layer delivers close contouring, encouraging healthy body alignment.
  • 6” Firm Core Support Base Foam: The support layer of the Puffy mattress boasts Insta-Firm technology that makes this all-foam bed incredibly responsive. The reliable support counters sinkage and adds a sturdy feel to the edges.

Puffy Lux – 4 Layers – 12” – 75 lbs. for queen size

  • 1.5” Cooling Cloud Gel-Infused Memory Foam: The Lux’s top layer is made from the same material as that of the original Puffy mattress. This memory foam is designed for optimal temperature regulation, helping to keep you cool and dry.
  • 1.5” Plush Dual Cloud Foam: It’s this layer of high-density polyfoam that sets the Lux apart from the other Puffy beds. The close contouring melts pain from pressure points while evenly distributing body weight.
  • 2” ClimateComfort Memory Foam: The ClimateComfort transition layer is the same cutting-edge memory foam used in the flagship Puffy mattress. Unlike other memory foams, ClimateComfort foam offers the same support and cushion no matter the ambient temperature.
  • 7” Firm Core Support Base Layer: The Lux’s support foam layer is made from the same responsive foam as the Puffy original. With an added inch of support, the Lux is better for plus-size sleepers.
Inside the Puffy Royal

Puffy Royal – 5 Layers – 14” – 100 lbs. for queen size

  • 1.5” Cooling Gel Memory Foam: Exclusive to the Puffy Royal, this first layer of plush memory foam is embedded with cooling gel beads. These gel beads absorb and disperse body heat, keeping the mattress cool and refreshing.
  • 2” Premium Reflexive Foam: Another layer only found in the Royal is this 2” of premium reflexive foam. This foam is soft and conforming, promoting healthy alignment by adapting to your unique body shape.
  • 2” Plush Dual Cloud Foam: Dual Cloud foam is the same high-density foam Puffy uses in the Lux for optimal contouring and pressure relief. Another perk of this proprietary foam is ample airflow that keeps the Royal cool.
  • 1.5” Zoned Support Transition Layer: The Puffy Royal is Puffy’s only mattress with a zoned support system. With 5 zones, the lighter parts of the body sink it while the heavier parts are properly supported. These zones encourage a healthy sleeping posture that lessens aches and pains. And thanks to a unique cloud design, this layer boosts air circulation throughout the mattress.
  • 7” Firm Core Support Base Foam: Puffy uses the same responsive, durable base foam in the Royal as in their other mattresses.

There are two ways to buy a new Puffy mattress: with a credit or debit card or through Klarna. Klarna is a financing company that allows you to pay for your mattress investment with low monthly payments rather than all up front.

When you finance a Puffy mattress through Klarna, the minimum monthly payment is $48/month. The interest rate, loan term, and purchase amount determine the monthly payment.

Shipping and Delivery

Puffy offers free delivery through FedEx in the contiguous USA. Most mattresses arrive 2-5 business days after the order is placed. Puffy does ship to Alaska, Hawaii, and certain parts of Canada for an additional fee. Shipping to these locations takes between 5-8 business days.

Every Puffy mattress arrives compressed and rolled into a tall, thin box. When we unboxed the Puffy mattresses, we noticed a slight off-gassing scent. A mild odor is normal with new memory foam mattresses, particularly when they’ve been compressed for shipping. Simply leave the mattress in a well-ventilated room for a few hours and the odor will slowly fade.

Trial Period and Warranty

One of the biggest selling points for buying your new mattress through Puffy or other popular online bed-in-a-box mattress brands is the worry-free sleep trial. Sleep trials give you the chance to sleep on your new mattress for months before fully committing.

Every new Puffy bed comes with a 101-night sleep trial and free returns. Puffy asks that you sleep on your new bed for 30 nights before making a final call. However, they only require that you wait 14 days before initiating a return. Memory foam beds take time to break in, and the body must adjust to the feel of a new mattress.

If you decide that the Puffy mattress isn’t for you, contact Puffy’s customer service 15 to 101 days after receiving the mattress in the mail. Puffy works with customers to organize mattress pickup from a local charity. After the return process, Puffy processes a full refund.

One factor that sets Puffy apart from other online mattress brands is their warranty. While most mattress manufacturers provide a 10-year warranty, Puffy backs their mattresses with a lifetime warranty. The Puffy warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship for as long as you own the mattress. This includes indentations of greater than 1.5”, the mattress cover and zipper, and more.

Where are Puffy mattresses made?

Every Puffy mattress is made in the USA.

Should I flip my new Puffy mattress?

You should not flip your Puffy mattress. These beds are one-sided. You can rotate your mattress 180 degrees to enhance longevity, but Puffy affirms that this isn’t necessary.

How do I clean my new mattress?

Every Puffy mattress has a stain-resistant cover that protects the mattress itself from spills and other damage. This cover is removable and machine-washable, helping you keep your new mattress fresh and clean.

What foundations are compatible with Puffy mattresses?

Puffy mattresses are compatible with most foundations. You can use an adjustable base, a traditional box spring and bed frame, a platform bed, slatted base with slats no more than 4” apart, or even the floor.

Can I try a Puffy mattress before I buy it?

No. Puffy only sells their mattresses directly to you, the consumer, at This means you cannot find a Puffy bed at a local brick-and-mortar mattress store. However, you can try the Puffy mattress at your own home, risk free, for 101 days. If you don’t love it, return it for a full refund.
