DreamCloud made its reputation as one of the first bed-in-a-box companies specializing in luxury mattresses, and pillows weren’t far behind. Now it’s added a new product, the Best Rest Pillow, to its lineup of bedding accessories.

Is a luxury pillow the perfect complement to a luxury mattress? How does this pillow compare with others we’ve tried out? To answer those questions, we did the research and tested the DreamCloud Best Rest Pillow in the Mattress Advisor lab.

What It’s Made of (and Why)

The core of the DreamCloud Best Rest Pillow is polyethylene-blend memory foam. Polyethylene is known for its strength and resilience, both good qualities for a memory foam pillow or memory foam mattresses. It’s also non-toxic and is better at preventing the transfer of heat than other polymeric materials.

So, the memory foam is intended to do three things: contour to the shape of your head, provide support for your neck, and prevent the pillow from absorbing body heat.

The removable cover is a fabric blend of 53% polyethylene, 46% polyester, and 1% spandex. If you’re wondering why a pillow cover uses a material best known for exercise gear, it’s because spandex expands and springs back to its original shape. Anyone who’s ever struggled to stuff a pillow inside a pillowcase can see why including spandex makes sense.

Other Design Details

By itself, memory foam isn’t an ideal substance for cooling and breathability, which is why it often needs a hand from design and materials. The memory foam in the DreamCloud Best Rest Pillow is infused with CopperGel. Gel materials are commonly in memory foam to promote cooling. Many mattresses and bedding accessories use copper because of its moisture-absorbing and antimicrobial properties.

Care and Maintenance

Since the core consists of a single piece of memory foam, you won’t need to fluff it or worry about it retaining its shape. As for the cover, DreamCloud recommends spot-cleaning only—no machine-washing.

Testing Highlights

Memory foam pillows like the DreamCloud Best Rest share the same primary advantage of memory foam mattresses, in that they can adapt to your contours and gradually regain their original shape when you’re not using them.

Based on our experience with the Best Rest Pillow, it strikes a nice balance between support and comfort that should accommodate all sleeping positions. Your head will sink into it slightly, but probably not far enough to affect neck and shoulder support. It also stays pretty cool, especially for a memory foam pillow.
