Searching for the most comfortable pillow can be a journey of trial and error. If you’re anything like me, you’ve tested multiple new pillows over the years, trying to find the right fit. What gets me excited about the Coop Home Goods Eden pillow is its adjustability. I can add or remove fill until it feels just right.

Adjustable pillows have been growing in popularity in recent years because they offer customized comfort. If you don’t like how the pillow feels out of the box, just adjust the fill level. If your body or sleeping position changes, the Coop pillow can change with you. In this review, I’ll share what features stand out to us at Mattress Advisor, plus info on the warranty, trial period, and sizing.

What’s in the Eden Pillow?

My first observation about the Eden pillow construction is Coop Home Goods’ effort to make it eco-friendly. While the Eden isn’t organic or all-natural, Coop Home Goods uses only Greenguard Gold and CertiPUR-US certified memory foam fill. In other words, the foams are manufactured with low chemical factory (and home) emissions and no toxic chemicals. You’ll notice minimal off-gassing from Coop Home Goods foams.

Additionally, they use only brand new 100% polyurethane memory foam in their sleep products. Plus, the Coop Eden Pillow is hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant.

Cover

The Eden pillowcase is made of Coop Home Goods’ signature Lulltra fabric. It’s 40% bamboo-sourced viscose rayon and 60% polyester. Bamboo and polyester textiles are really soft and silky. Coop Home Goods likens the feel to a cozy t-shirt. The weave is intentionally breathable, so you won’t feel like heat is pooling under your head.

The sides of the outer pillowcase have gussets. A gusset is basically a thick strip of fabric that runs along the entire perimeter of the pillow. Instead of seams that come to a point, the pillow looks slightly more box-shaped. Gussets prevent the foam fill from accumulating along the edges. You won’t need to fluff gusseted pillows up as much.

Inside the pillowcase is a stretchy, lightweight inner liner. This is where the adjustable fill lives. You can reach the inner pillow through a zipper on the side of the outer pillowcase. The inner liner also has a zipper to provide access to the memory foam fill.

The outer pillowcase is completely detached from the inner liner, so you can wash the two pieces separately.

Fill

The Eden pillow is stuffed full of squishy shredded foam and microfiber. The foam is cross-cut to allow for better airflow, and the microfiber prevents clumping. The feel is similar to that of a plush down pillow.

I really appreciate how shredded foam pillows are moldable. Unlike solid memory foam pillows, shredded foam pieces can be manipulated to contour snuggly along your neck and head. And because the pieces are made of memory foam, the pillow form stays in place.

Cooling gel is another nice addition to the memory foam pieces. Gel absorbs heat, which helps to neutralize the temperature of memory foam.

What Makes It Special?

Here are a few of my favorite features about the Coop Eden pillow:

  • Adjustable Loft: As I mentioned before, I love pillows that can be customized to my comfort preference. It takes the stress out of finding the best pillow for my needs. The Eden pillow comes with an extra ½ lb. of fill, and their team will recommend how much to add or remove based on your sleep position.
  • Spinal Alignment: The adjustability of the Eden pillow enables you to find a loft level that keeps your spine aligned. If you buy a non-adjustable pillow, it may have the wrong amount of neck support for your sleep position. A pillow that is too high or low will strain your neck and likely have you racing to return the pillow. I highly doubt you’ll have any trouble with neck pain on the Eden as long as you have the right loft.
  • Breathability: Coop Home Goods specially designed the Eden to be a cooling pillow. The cover and shredded foam allow air to flow freely through the pillow, rather than getting trapped in the foam. Plus the gel in the fill regulates the temperature of the pillow.

FAQs

Q.

What should I do if my pillow has a chemical smell?

A.

Memory foam products undergo a process called off-gassing when unboxed. Here’s what to do if you notice a scent after unpacking your new pillow: allow your pillow to air out for a few hours until the smell dissipates.

Q.

Is the Eden Pillow machine washable?

A.

Yep! Separate the pillowcase and the inner liner filled with foam. Wash them both in cold water on the delicate cycle. Don’t use fabric softener! You can use a safety pin to keep the zipper from opening and spilling foam in the washer. Tumble dry both parts on low heat. The inner pillow may take a few cycles to dry completely. Coop Home Goods recommends washing their pillows only once a year; otherwise, they may flatten out.

Q.

How is the Eden Pillow different from the Original Adjustable Pillow?

A.

The difference is in the fill, since both have the Lulltra cover. Eden’s fill is softer in density and feels a lot like down. It’s also infused with cooling gel. The Original pillow has a medium density fill that provides a little more support.

Q.

Can I get more foam filling for my pillow?

A.

Yes! You can buy extra foam filling in ½ lb increments. You also may be able to receive extra memory foam under your warranty coverage.

Q.

What does it mean for foam to be Certipur-US certified?

A.

CertiPUR-US memory foam is manufactured without ozone depleters, toxic flame retardants, heavy metals (like mercury or lead), formaldehyde, and phthalates. The production process has to have a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions.

Q.

How much fill should I use for my sleeping position?

A.

More foam filling equals a higher loft level. Side sleepers need the highest loft/fill level, and Coop Home Goods recommends leaving the foam as is when it’s delivered. Back sleepers need medium loft/fill level, so try removing ¼ of the foam. Stomach sleepers need the least loft/fill level, so try removing ⅓ of the fill.

Q.

Do I need to use a pillowcase with my Eden pillow?

A.

No, the outer cover works as a pillowcase, but using one can protect your pillow from wear. Coop Home Goods also sells a great pillow case made of silk.

Final Breakdown

It’s hard to find a pillow that works for just about everyone, but the Eden pillow comes close. Having adjustable fill enables you to find the perfect loft for your sleeping style and body type. The gel memory foam and breathable cover help to keep you cool. Plus, the price is reasonable, and you have 100 nights to decide.
