Eli & Elm Winchester Bamboo Sheets Review

By Loren Bullock

Bamboo sheets have garnered quite the reputation for not only being epically soft, but eco-friendly as well. Our friends over at Eli & Elm just released a brand new set of bamboo sheets in their Winchester collection, and I got the pleasure of trying them out.

But before I get into my sleep experience with the new Eli & Elm sheets, let’s talk about the sheet set itself.

What Are They Made Of?

The Eli & Elm Winchester Bamboo Sheet Set is made from 100% rayon. If you don’t know what rayon is, it’s the process in which the bamboo plant is turned into fabric. First the bamboo is dissolved in a solution, which in-turn, is pressed into fibers and cooled. Once the fibers have cooled, they are made into threads, which are woven into fabric.

In this case, the bamboo thread is woven into a sateen weave, which gives it a silky-soft finish. On top of that, the weave is a 350 thread count. This combination allows Eli & Elm to claim this set as the world’s softest bamboo sheets (well, I’ll be the judge of that).

Special Features

The Winchester collection comes with 1 flat sheet and 1 fitted sheet. The pillowcase count depends on what size you order. If you purchase a twin or twin XL, you receive 1 pillowcase, any other size gets 2. Here are some features that make the Eli & Elm Winchester sheets stand out from other sheet sets.

World’s Softest Bamboo Sheets: Bamboo sheets alone are among one of the softest bedding choices you can make because of the material. The combination of having a 350 thread count and a sateen weave elevates the Winchester sheets’ quality. They guarantee this or your money back.

Eco-Friendly: The beautiful thing about rayon is how natural it is. The bamboo in these sheets are grown without pesticides or harmful fertilizers, so they are naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial.

Temperature-Regulating: If you sleep hot, these sheets seek to help you out. This set is temperature regulative and moisture-wicking. No more waking up covered in sweat or kicking the covers off in the night.

Sleep Experience

Now, onto the good stuff.

I’m just as skeptical as anyone when a brand claims to be the best in the world at anything; these sheets supposedly being the world’s softest was no exception. But, from the second I opened the packaging, the first thing I noticed was how soft these sheets were. Of what I remember from years of sleeping, I’ve never encountered anything comparable. While I haven’t slept on all of the bamboo sheets in the entire world, I’ll support their claim until someone hands me sheets that are softer.

The other thing I truly enjoyed about these sheets is that I really felt cool. I’m prone to the occasional nighttime sweats, especially during the summertime. I think the worst thing about hot sleeping is waking up sandwiched between sheets that are stuck to you—that never happened to me. I didn’t get sweaty, stuck, or kick the sheets off of my body during the night.

Logistically speaking, the sheets fit over my mattress, and I didn’t have too much trouble finding out which corners should go where. Even after days of sleeping, the sides and corners stayed tucked underneath my mattress.

Overall, my experience with the Eli & Elm Winchester bamboo sheets was a great one. In total honesty, they convinced me to make the switch to bamboo: I’ve gotten too used to the softness.

Pros and Cons

As we all know, nothing is perfect. Check out the high and lowlights of the Eli & Elm Winchester Bamboo Sheet Set.

Pros Cons
Good for Hot Sleepers: The moisture-wicking and temperature regulating quality is not an empty promise. The sheets not only feel cool, but they keep you cool. Return Policy: While they guarantee satisfaction, their return policy isn’t as generous as most. On top of that, buyers are responsible for return shipping, and some other brands will take care of that for you.
Machine Washable: Ease of care is always a plus. The instructions say to machine wash in cold water and tumble dry low. Simple enough. Wrinkle: If you are looking for crisp, wrinkle-free sheets, these are not for you. It is natural for rayon to wrinkle, but you can iron these sheets on low if you prefer.
Super Soft: If I haven’t said it enough, the softness of these sheets is out of this world. Limited Pillowcase Count: If you sleep on a twin or twin XL mattress, you only get 1 pillowcase. A bummer for those who love to stack pillows.

Final Breakdown

The bedding brand Eli & Elm has recently come out with the Winchester Bamboo Sheet Set, and the softness is amazing. These sheets are for you if you sleep hot and love eco-friendly materials, not so much if you love the look of a wrinkle-free bed. Regardless, you have free shipping and at least 1 month to try them out, so give the softness a whirl.
