- Good Choices if You Toss and Turn: The GhostBed Classic and WinkBeds both respond quickly to your movements, with a slightly bouncy feel that helps you switch positions comfortably.

Compare the Inside of the Mattresses
The GhostBed Classic and WinkBeds have a lot in common: Both are excellent cooling mattresses with good responsiveness and edge support. So you might think they are pretty similar on the inside—but they actually differ quite a bit in their construction.
Find out more about what differentiates these two beds in our layer-by-layer breakdown below.

Inside the GhostBed Classic Mattress
The GhostBed Classic is an all-foam bed that incorporates cooling materials to give you a cool, comfortable, and well-supported night’s sleep.
A moisture-wicking cover encases the bed and provides a four-way stretch. The first comfort layer of aerated latex foam is breathable and naturally cooling. It’s this layer that’s to thank for the quick responsiveness and slight bounce of the GhostBed.
Gel-infused memory foam makes up the second comfort layer, with softer foam near where your knees and shoulders typically rest and firmer foam in the lumbar area, offering zoned support. Last, a 7.5-inch layer of high-density polyfoam delivers support and durability.
- Plush Cover: A moisture-wicking polyester-viscose blend cover keeps you cool. Its elasticity facilitates the GhostBed Classic’s responsiveness.
- Latex Comfort Layer (1.5”): Aerated latex foam provides pressure relief, cooling, and a bouncy feel.
- Memory Foam Comfort Layer (2”): Cooling gel-infused memory foam gently cradles your shoulders, hips, and knees.
- High-Density Polyfoam Support Layer (7.5”): A support layer of high-density polyfoam supports the spine while reducing sagging and improving durability.

Inside the WinkBeds Mattress
WinkBeds delivers cooling and responsiveness thanks to its six-layer hybrid foam and coil construction.
A super-soft and breathable Tencel cover surrounds the bed’s Euro pillow top. This pillow top contains sumptuously soft polyfoam and provides a plush, luxurious feel. Next, a comfort layer of gel-infused polyfoam cools while it relieves pressure.
Beneath that, a firm layer of lumbar foam gives you extra support along your core and hips. Underneath is a thick layer of zoned coils that delivers even more lumbar support while cushioning your shoulders, knees, and feet. High-density foam supports the coil layer and surrounds the entire mattress, creating impressively sturdy edges.
- Tencel Cover: According to WinkBeds, this eucalyptus-based performance fabric is softer than silk and sleeps 30 percent cooler than linen.
- Euro Pillow Top (1”): Ultra-soft polyfoam that’s quilted into the Tencel cover creates a luxury pillow-top feel.
- Comfort Layer (1”): Gel-infused polyfoam pulls heat away from your body while cradling your curves and joints. The density of this layer varies between the “softer,” “luxury firm,” “firm,” and “plus” comfort levels.
- Lumbar Foam Layer (2.5”): An extra dense foam layer delivers support to your lumbar region, providing improved spine alignment and minimizing sagging.
- Pocketed Support Coils (8”): Zoned pocket coils ensure you get more support where you need it most, and less where you need a little bit more give (like your shoulders and feet).
- Support Foam (1”): A final layer of high-density foam brings additional durability and stability.
- Extra Edge-Support System: Sturdy polyfoam surrounds the bed’s perimeter, delivering outstanding edge support.

Edge Support
Edge support refers to the ability of a mattress to support weight around its perimeter. This is particularly important for couples who sleep towards the bed’s edges, people with limited mobility who use the edge for support getting in and out of bed, and anyone who likes to sit on the edge of the bed.
In our mattress testing lab, both beds demonstrated superb edge support, with WinkBeds earning a nearly perfect score.
Cooling
If you’re a hot sleeper, you know how important a cooling mattress can be. Usually, innerspring and hybrid mattresses are excellent for hot climates or warm sleepers because of the increased airflow through the steel coils.
However, despite the WinkBeds’s hybrid construction and the GhostBed’s all-foam build, the GhostBed sleeps cooler than the WinkBeds. An exceptionally cool top layer and mattress cover make the GhostBed better for hot sleepers than the WinkBeds, though either mattress is a great choice to keep you cool and dry.
Pressure Relief
Our pressure relief test measures how much pressure is put on your hips, shoulders, and other joints when sleeping on a mattress. Side sleepers and people with joint pain benefit from mattresses with solid pressure relief.
Unfortunately, neither mattress performed exceptionally well in this category. WinkBeds received an average score of 7.75, so if you don’t exclusively sleep on your side, it may still be a good match. With the GhostBed Classic’s score of 6.5, we don’t recommend it for side sleepers.
Motion Transfer
To conduct our wine test, we set a glass of red wine on a mattress and see what happens when our tester rolls around. This is how we measure motion transfer in action. A bed with minimal motion transfer is good for couples who wake up easily when their partner moves around.
Unfortunately, this is another category in which neither bed excelled. In this case, the GhostBed Classic outperformed the WinkBeds, with scores of 7.5 and 6.4, respectively. If you are easily bothered by motion transfer in bed, WinkBeds is likely not for you.
Bottom Line: Which Is the Best Mattress?
Still wondering whether the GhostBed Classic or WinkBeds might be your next mattress? Both beds are fantastic for back and stomach sleepers, sleepers who toss and turn, and anyone who sleeps hot. They’re also both durable, and come with easy return policies.
If you’re on a budget, the GhostBed Classic runs slightly cheaper than the WinkBeds. However, you should check out online promotions first, as both companies regularly offer discounts. And last, if you need a little bit longer on your sleep trial, you can sleep in the WinkBeds for 120 nights, compared to 101 nights for the GhostBed Classic.
