Key Similarities
- All-Foam Mattresses: The Leesa and Layla mattresses are both constructed entirely of Certipur-US certified foam.
- Pricing: These beds have similar price ranges; for example, there is only a $50 difference between the Leesa queen size and Layla queen size mattresses.
- Responsiveness: Both mattresses perform exceptionally well for combo sleepers. We gave them a 9.5/10 score for responsiveness because they adjust so quickly to changes in position.
Key Differences
- Firmness Options: Layla is a flippable mattress with two firmness options—a soft side and a firm side. Leesa is a single-sided mattress with one firmness level—medium firm.
- Warranty: Leesa offers a 10-year warranty on all mattress purchases. On the other hand, Layla goes above and beyond the industry standard with their lifetime warranty.
- Cooling: Leesa scored a full point higher than Layla in the category of cooling. This was the largest difference in performance scores between these mattresses.
- Special Features: Leesa keeps their mattress simple with high-quality, breathable materials, whereas Layla adds copper pieces to their foam to enhance temperature regulation and pain management.

Leesa Mattress Review Highlights
- Responsiveness: Leesa uses proprietary LSA200 Foam Technology™ to decrease the amount of time it takes for the foam to adapt to your movements. We gave the Leesa a 9.5/10 score in this category—our testers never felt trapped in the foam.
- Motion Transfer: This is another high score category for the Leesa mattress. The LSA200 foam improves motion isolation so well that our testers could barely notice disruptions on the other side of the bed while blindfolded.
- Spinal Alignment: The foam layers snuggly contour around your body so each region gets the amount of support that it needs. This keeps your spine in alignment, regardless of sleeping position, which can reduce or prevent pain and stiffness.
- Top-Rated: Leesa is an incredibly high-performing mattress. It didn’t fall below a score of 8.5/10 in any of our performance tests, and its total score is one of the highest on Mattress Advisor.
- Other Choices: You can also shop other Leesa mattress models, including the Leesa Hybrid Mattress, Leesa Legend, and the Studio Mattress.

Layla Mattress Review Highlights
- Flippable: Layla is a 2-in-1 memory foam mattress that can be flipped to a soft or firm side. The soft side of the Layla is 4-5/10 on the firmness scale, and the firm side of the bed is 7/10.
- Breathable: Not only is the Layla mattress cover breathable, the foam layer beneath the soft side is convoluted, meaning it has peaks and valleys that create airflow channels.
- Copper Infusion: Layla’s comfort layers are infused with tiny copper pieces that absorb body heat, cancel odors, and potentially reduce inflammation and speed up muscle or joint recovery time.
- Lifetime Warranty: Layla will repair or replace your mattress if it develops manufacturing defects forever, as long as you are the original owner and purchased directly from Layla. Covered defects include sagging greater than 1”, cracks in the foam, and sagging.
- Another Option: If you want to stick with the Layla Sleep brand, but prefer the sturdier feel of coils, check out the Layla Hybrid mattress.

Explore the Layers and Feel of Both Beds
In this next section, we’ll break down how each of these mattresses are constructed and how the different layers influence the feel of the mattress.

Inside the Leesa Mattress
- Mattress Cover: The Leesa mattress is covered with soft, breathable twill fabric.
- Comfort Layer: The top layer cushions your body weight and reduces stress on pressure points. It’s not a memory foam layer, but it has a memory foam feel.
- Second Layer: This layer of memory foam keeps motion transfer to a minimum. It also prevents you from sinking too far into the mattress.
- Support Layer: The final foam layer is extra dense and forms a stable foundation for you and the other foam layers.

Inside the Layla Mattress
- Mattress Cover: The Layla mattress cover is made with polyester-viscose-lycra fabric, and is infused with Thermo-Gel cooling technology. All fancy terminology aside, the Layla cover is cooling and soft. It’s also removable by zipper and can be dry cleaned.
- Soft Side: The soft side is 3x as thick as the firm side and creates extra contouring around pressure points like shoulders and hips. It has a more traditional memory foam feel, but also firms in response to weight, giving you more support where it’s needed.
- Cooling Layer: This layer improves airflow beneath the thicker soft side. The foam is molded to loosely resemble an egg carton. Warm air is able to travel down from the memory foam and away through the convoluted foam channels.
- Transition Layer: This is a layer of support foam that minimizes motion transfer and prevents sagging on both sides.
- Firm Side: The firmer side of the mattress is made from the same copper-infused memory foam as the soft side. Fun fact: Copper acts as an antimicrobial barrier against odor-causing bacteria.

Sleeping Position
Your sleeping position is arguably the most important factor to keep in mind when choosing a mattress. Spinal alignment, pressure relief, and responsiveness all play a role in finding the right fit for you. Layla scored a fraction higher for pressure relief, but Leesa scored a point higher for spinal alignment. They earned the same score for responsiveness.
The good news is that neither mattress scored low in any of these categories; in fact, they all scored above average.
Side sleepers need pressure relief, so the soft side of the Layla is the best choice, although the Leesa is not far behind. The firm side of the Layla is best for back sleepers, who need a firmer mattress with lots of support. Stomach sleepers are also comfortable on firm mattresses, but they need some cushion. The Leesa or the firm side of the Layla work well.
Lastly, combo sleepers get premium responsiveness on both mattresses, since they each scored a whopping 9.5/10.
Cooling
Foam beds tend to sleep warmer, but the breathable foam in the Leesa mattress keeps it relatively cool. It scored a full point higher than the Layla in the cooling category. With that said, both mattresses scored above average.
Motion Isolation
Edge support and motion transfer are the most important factors for couples. The Leesa and Layla both scored high in these categories, with Leesa marginally outperforming Layla in motion transfer and the reverse being true for edge support. In other words, you’ll get good motion isolation and a maximized sleeping surface with both beds.
Which Is the Best Mattress?
Side sleepers get good pressure relief on Leesa and Layla’s soft sides. Back sleepers get the most support on Layla’s firm side. Stomach sleepers will be comfortably on the Leesa or Layla firm side. The Leesa sleeps cooler. Both beds are priced similarly, but Layla has a lifetime warranty.
It’s tough to choose between these two mattresses since they both perform so well and are closely priced, so focus on your top 2-3 priorities. Also keep in mind other details, like how the Layla mattress offers two firmness options, and that Leesa donates mattresses to children in need. Ultimately, we think you won’t go wrong with either bed.
