Key Similarities

  • Mattress Construction: The Loom & Leaf and AS3 mattresses are both all-foam beds. They also share memory foam comfort layers that are slightly more responsive than traditional memory foam.
  • Cooling: Both mattress models are heavy on cooling technology. They scored above average for cooling. This is impressive for memory foam mattresses, which tend to trap body heat.
  • Pressure Relief: The AS3 and Loom & Leaf each scored slightly above average for pressure relief. This indicates that they do a satisfactory job of cushioning pressure points on your body.
  • Spinal Alignment: Both mattresses also shared high scores for spinal alignment, which is important for avoiding neck and back pain.

Key Differences

  • Firmness Levels: One key difference between these mattresses is that they are offered in different firmness levels. The Amerisleep AS3 is a medium to medium-firm mattress (6/10 on the firmness scale). No other firmness options are available for the AS3, but you can shop the other four Amerisleep models (AS1, AS2, AS4, and AS5.). Loom & Leaf offers 2 firmness levels: a “relaxed firm” option (6/10) and a firm (8/10) option.
  • Materials: Each mattress features a different signature memory foam. The Loom and Leaf includes cooling gel memory foam, while the AS3 has Amerisleep’s breathable, plant-based Bio-Pur foam.
  • Motion Transfer: In our lab assessment, the AS3 scored much higher for motion transfer (8.75/10) than Loom & Leaf (5/10). That means it does a better job of providing an undisturbed night’s sleep
  • Delivery Method: Loom & Leaf is a Saatva mattress model, and Saatva is a luxury bedding brand. Accordingly, they offer free white glove delivery and old mattress removal on all Loom & Leaf mattress purchases. On other hand, Amerisleep mattresses are delivered bed-in-a-box style to your doorstep.

Amerisleep Mattress Review Highlights

  • The Amerisleep AS3 mattress scored very well for motion transfer, so it’s a good choice for couples who want to reduce disruptions from their sleeping partner.
  • This mattress is constructed with Amerisleep’s Bio-Pur memory foam. This proprietary material has an open cell structure that is high in breathability, so body heat can easily escape from the foam.
  • Amerisleep does its best to create eco-friendly mattresses. Bio-Pur foam is made from renewable plant-based oils, resulting in less off-gassing than foam made with petrochemicals. It’s also CertiPUR-US certified.
  • The AS3’s transition layer contains Amerisleep’s HIVE Technology. This layer is molded with honeycomb-shaped columns that are taller or shorter, depending on which region of your body is being supported. The ergonomic support makes your body feel weightless.
  • All of Amerisleep’s AS mattresses are covered by a 20-year warranty that protects you against mattress sinkage and other manufacturing defects.

Feel and Construction Comparison

As foam mattresses, the Loom & Leaf and Amerisleep AS3 use multiple layers of memory foam to provide the ultimate comfort experience. The Loom & Leaf incorporates a gel panel for zoned support and uses high-density polyfoam at the bottom of the bed to support the top layers. It comes in two different firmness options: relaxed firm, which is about a 6/10 on our firmness scale, and firm, which is an 8/10.

The Amerisleep AS3 is a medium-firm, or 6/10 on the firmness saled, designed to combine comfort and support for all types of sleepers. It’s right in the middle for comfort level, with Amerisleep’s AS1 and AS2 on the firmer end, and the AS4 and AS5 on the softer side. This mattress has a plush top layer that is easy to sink into and a support layer that provides the right amount of cushioning. For a firmer mattress, go with the Loom & Leaf or one of Amerisleep’s firmer mattress models. Overall, the Loom & Leaf’s relaxed firm option and the Amerisleep AS3 have a great feel for most sleeping positions.

Inside Loom & Leaf

Inside the Loom & Leaf Mattress

  1. Organic Cotton Cover: Cotton is famously soft and only gets more plush with time. Loom & Leaf uses only organic cotton in their mattress cover.
  2. Cooling Gel: This memory foam top layer is infused with gel that is temperature regulating. It gives you an immediate burst of coolness when you first lie down.
  3. Premium Memory Foam: The second memory foam layer has a more traditional memory foam feel. It supports your body weight by contouring to your unique curves.
  4. Support Layers: At the base, several polyfoam layers keep you from sinking too deep into the mattress. They also improve the durability of the mattress.

Inside The Amerisleep Mattress

  1. Refresh Cooling Cover: Made with fiber that transfers energy away from the body, this cover keeps you cooler than traditional mattress covers.
  2. Bio-Pur Foam: Amerisleep adjusts the thickness of their medium-soft Bio-Pur layer, depending on how firm of a mattress they want. The AS3 has a medium feel, so it has a slightly thinner top layer than the softer AS models.
  3. Affinity Transition Foam: This additional foam layer features HIVE technology. It improves spinal alignment and the overall comfort level of the mattress.
  4. Bio-Core: The AS3’s support layer is 7” of dense polyurethane foam. It’s the firmest foam layer in this mattress, so it prevents sagging.

Sleep Position

You can get a good idea of which mattress is best for your sleeping position by looking at the test results for pressure relief and spinal alignment. Pressure relief is particularly important for side sleepers, who need a mattress that cushions their hips and shoulders. The Amerisleep AS3 scored slightly higher in this category.

Spinal alignment is important for back sleepers and especially stomach sleepers. Their necks are already twisted to the side, so they need a mattress that keeps their upper and lower back straight. Both beds scored well in this category, especially the Loom & Leaf.

Finally, combo sleepers need a bed that can quickly respond to movement. The Loom & Leaf also scored higher for responsiveness, making position changing a breeze.

Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, pay special attention to the motion transfer category, since it’s your ticket to undisrupted sleep. The AS3 is the clear winner here. Couples don’t have to worry about waking each other up with this mattress.

Cooling

Good news hot sleepers, both of these beds scored above average for cooling, with the AS3 receiving the highest score. The AS3 uses Bio-Pur memory foam for a cooling feel, whereas the Loom & Leaf uses gel-infused foam for better temperature regulation.

Our Summary: Which is the Best Mattress?

The Amerisleep AS3 and Loom & Leaf mattresses are both high-quality beds. They each support all sleeping positions equally well. Couples should feel more comfy on the AS3, and budget shoppers will generally save more on this model, as well.

You’ll need to decide which best meets your sleep needs, and we hope our recommendations help. Keep in mind, both companies provide generous sleep trials, free shipping, and lengthy warranty periods, so choose whichever mattress works best for your sleeping position, sleep environment, or budget.
