The Lull Mattress Review In Real Life

This couple has had their Lull mattress for a year and here’s what they have to say about it

We find that most people leave reviews about their new mattress after only a few nights of sleeping on it, or sometimes even before they set it up…super helpful, right? This doesn’t give you any insight on how they feel after sleeping on the mattress for a while, which is the important part. So we asked real people a few questions about how they chose their mattress and what their experience has been like after sleeping on it for a year.

While every sleeper is different, we hope this couple’s mattress journey will help you in your own search.

Meet Nicole & Steve

Nicole and Steve live in Wayne, PA. Nicole is a consultant and Steve works for a private equity firm. They share their Lull mattress with each other and their two cats, Penny and Wallace.

Nicole is a side and stomach sleeper and Steve is a side and back sleeper. Before owning their Lull mattress, they had a Serta mattress.

The selection and buying process

MA: Why were you guys in the market for a new mattress?

N&S: I (Nicole) was waking up with a sore back almost every morning. Our mattress was actually sinking – there was an indent from where we slept every night. So it was definitely time for a new one.

MA: What factors did you consider when buying a mattress?

N&S: We wanted something that was going to be the right level of firmness to help with the back pain, and also wanted something durable that was going to hold up for a while.

MA: Did you compare any other brands? If so, what were they?

N&S: Yes, we did some research on the Casper and Tempurpedic mattresses, as well as a few other delivery-only mattress brands.

MA: What ultimately led you to purchase the Lull mattress?

N&S: We looked at a bunch of different reviews, mostly from consumers, and it seemed like the Lull had the perfect level of firmness that we were looking for. We thought the Casper was going to be too firm for us based on what customers were saying about it. We also saw that some mattresses needed special foundations or box springs and we didn’t want to invest in that – the Lull seemed to be more versatile.

MA: Did you buy anything else from Lull?

N&S: No, just the mattress.

MA: What was your mattress buying experience like?

N&S: The process was super easy. We actually got the mattress within a couple of days of us ordering it online. We don’t know if we requested this by accident, but the only drawback was that we needed someone to sign for the package and neither one of us was home at the time. We ended up having to pick it up from a mail facility and the box was super heavy so we needed two people to carry it.

I was, however, surprised by Lull’s responsiveness and willingness to help us out with the foundation. I emailed them asking what a good option would be for our budget and they sent us a link to a frame for $50 on Amazon. It works great and is very sturdy, even after moving where we had to break it down and put it back together again.

Mattress was bought in July 2016; Interview was conducted in August 2017

Every time I go away for work, I’m so happy to be home and back in my own bed.

MA: Now that you’ve had your Lull for a year, how would you describe the quality of sleep you get on it?

N&S: We sleep so much better now. Every time I (Nicole) go away for work, I’m so happy to be home and back in my own bed. There’s something very comforting about coming back to it. We’ve had it for a year now and there are no signs of sinking, and we haven’t had to rotate it or anything like that. It’s still in very good condition.

MA: Do you notice any difference in how you feel when you wake up?

N&S: We feel much better rested. In our other mattress, we woke up a lot throughout the night. On this one we sleep through the night, so it’s not messing up our sleep cycles and we feel much more refreshed in the morning.

MA: How does the Lull compare to other mattresses you’ve had in the past?

N&S: I (Nicole) actually noticed that my back pain is going away. We both feel better supported and don’t notice any sinking like we used to on our old mattress. Overall our quality of sleep has improved significantly.

MA: How would you rank the Lull mattress on the following factors?

On a scale from 1-5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best.

Motion transfer (feeling little to no movement from your sleeping partner): 4
Support (body weight distributed evenly, no pains or aches): 5
Responsiveness (adjusts/responds to your body movements): 5
Temperature control (keeps you cool): 4

MA: How firm would you say the Lull mattress is?

N&S: It’s soft without being too soft. It has the right amount of support.

MA: Do you have any complaints about your Lull? Or anything you would change if you could?

N&S: No, not really.

MA: Do you feel like the Lull mattress was worth the price you paid?

N&S: Yes. We also bought it during a promotion so it was a very good price for a king size bed.
