All in all: The Sparrow Signature Hybrid mattress from Nest Bedding (formerly, the Alexander Signature Hybrid) comes in plush, medium, and luxury firm options. We tested the medium option, and found it to be highly responsive, cooling, and supportive. Thanks to the multiple firmness options, it can support a variety of sleeping positions.

⭐Total Score for the Sparrow Signature Hybrid: 8.6/10⭐
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros
- Responsiveness: The Sparrow Signature Hybrid’s highest score is for responsiveness, meaning it will keep up with your changes in position, so you stay comfortable all night long.
- Spinal Alignment: Spinal alignment is super important for avoiding back pain, and the Sparrow performed particularly well in this category.
- Edge Support: When our tests sat on the edge of this mattress it only had a slight sink thanks to the reinforced edge support pocket coil system.
❌ Cons
- Motion Transfer: This mattress has an innerspring system which is great for providing you support at night but not so great for allowing you to isolate your motion.
- Cooling: While the Sparrow features a quilted gel memory foam to keep you cool at night, we felt it wasn’t as cool as some of the latex mattresses we have tested.
Pressure Relief
Got achy shoulders or sleep on your side? Pay special attention to the score for pressure relief. We gave the Sparrow a 8/10, and here’s why:
We test pressure relief using a pressure map on the mattress surface. Blues and greens indicate areas of low pressure, and reds and yellows mean there is high pressure. We saw some yellow near the shoulders and hips of both of our testers, which is why we gave the mattress only a so-so score for pressure relief. When our testers lay on their backs we saw mostly blues though, so this would be a great mattress for back sleepers.

Responsiveness
To test responsiveness—or how quickly a mattress adjusts to your changes in position—we ask our testers to lie on the mattress in each sleeping position and score how easily the mattress settles into the new position.
A score of one means the mattress takes a long time to adjust, while a score of 10 means the mattress adjusted perfectly to the new position. Overall, our testers gave the Sparrow a near perfect score of 9.5/10 for responsiveness.
Motion Transfer
Our motion transfer tests tell us how well a mattress absorbs movement across the mattress surface. The wine test is a visual indicator of how much motion is transferred from one side of the bed to another. We placed a glass of wine on the mattress surface and asked a tester to move around. The glass swayed quite a bit, but stayed standing, so we gave the Sparrow a score of 6/10 for that test.
Next, we swapped the wine for another person. Our testers rated the Sparrow a 6.75/10 for this portion of the test, with one meaning tons of movement and 10 meaning no movement at all. The total motion transfer score averaged out at 6.4/10, so the Sparrow mattress does a moderate job of isolating motion.

Firmness Levels
The plush option is very soft— about 3/10 on the firmness scale. The medium is a 4.5/10, so it’s closer to a medium-soft. The luxury firm is about 7/10 on the firmness scale, which is considered medium firm by some. We tested the medium mattress and felt like it was a great option for various sleepers since it’s the right balance of soft and firm.

Will Your Sleeping Position Be Supported?
Side sleepers will get the best pressure point relief on the plush option, and stomach sleepers need the extra support of the firm option. Back sleepers will feel the most comfortable on either the medium or luxury firm option.

Temperature Regulation
We found the Sparrow Signature Hybrid to sleep cool, though it’s not distinctly cool-to-touch. Hybrid and innerspring mattresses tend to sleep much cooler than all-foam mattresses because of airflow through the coil layer.
The Sparrow pairs a breathable coil layer with gel-infused foam and phase change materials in the mattress cover—both of which work to regulate the temperature of the mattress surface.

Weight Capacity
The Sparrow can comfortably support up to 600 lbs, or 300 lbs on both sides.
Foundation Compatibility
Using the right support system for the Sparrow mattress will give you the best sleep quality and prevent mattress sinkage. Make sure your mattress foundation is flat, firm, and non-flexible. Box springs aren’t the best fit, but you can use platform beds, adjustable bases, and slatted beds (no more than 4” between the slats).

A Look Inside
The Sparrow mattress blends three foam layers with individually wrapped pocketed coils.

- Quilted Cover (1″): Temperature regulating thermic phase change fabric and a thin layer of gel-infused memory foam provide additional cooling and soft benefits.
- Top Layer (3″): The Sparrow Signature Hybrid’s top layer consists of an Energex Temperature Responsive Foam™ which provides a cool, responsive surface for pressure relief.
- Transition Layer (1″): SmartFlow support foam helps transition from the comfort layer to the individually pocketed coils.
- Support Layer (6″): A quantum edge individually wrapped coil system with extra edge support provides excellent edge support.
- Base Layer (1″): At the bottom of the Sparrow Signature Hybrid is a support foam layer that serves as a buffer between your foundation and the mattress.

What It’s Like to Unbox?
The Sparrow Signature Hybrid mattress is delivered compressed, rolled, and packaged in a box inside a box. It took us just under two minutes to set it up. A queen size weighs 105 lbs, so you may want to enlist help setting up your mattress, but it comes with handles on the side, making easy lifting. The first thing we noticed once the mattress was on our bed frame was its pretty criss-cross design on the quilted cover. It also had a minor off-gassing scent when we cut off the plastic packaging, but it went away quickly. The mattress took a little bit of time to puff up so you may not want to sleep on it right away.

365 Nights to Try It

What the Warranty Covers
If your Sparrow mattress develops indentations deeper than 1” or defects in the mattress cover/zipper, you may be able to receive a replacement mattress or repair services under the lifetime warranty.
For the warranty to apply, you have to be the original owner of the mattress and have purchased it directly from Nest Bedding or one of their authorized retailers. Email customerservice@nestbedding.com to submit a claim. Within 7 business days, a rep will reach out to you with instructions on how to proceed.
Lifetime Renewal Exchange
Recently, Nest Bedding has begun offering a Lifetime Renewal Exchange program for its luxury mattresses to provide new life to your mattress. This includes the Sparrow Signature Hybrid, Owl Natural Latex Hybrid, and Finch Natural Latex mattresses. Customers can redeem their one-time comfort guarantee exchange any time after their first 365 days of owning their Nest mattress by contacting the customer service team. A new comfort layer will be shipped to your address, which you can add to your mattress by unzipping and removing your old layer. The Lifetime Renewal Exchange helps reduce waste since it allows you to continue using your Nest mattress.

Nest Bedding’s return policy enables you to request free returns or exchanges during the trial period. Just keep in mind that your trial period doesn’t restart when you make an exchange, and you can only request one exchange or return per customer, per year.
To start the return or exchange process, email the Nest Bedding team at customerservice@nestbedding.com. They’ll work with you to arrange for your original mattress to be picked up and disposed of or donated. You’ll see your full refund back on your original form of payment after mattress pick up.
Should You Buy It?
The Sparrow mattress from Nest Bedding is a fair choice for the average hybrid mattress shopper with a moderate budget. It’s durable, protected by a lifetime warranty, and available in different firmness options to suit every kind of sleeper. We’re confident that most sleepers will get a good night’s sleep on this bed, but couples concerned about motion transfer should check out our Zoma Hybrid mattress review; it may be a better fit.
See How It Stacks Up
Generally, the Sparrow Signature Hybrid is more responsive than similar mattresses, but doesn’t provide as much motion isolation. It’s also a relatively affordable option with a lifetime warranty that’s tough to beat.
A close comparison is the Beautyrest Black mattress, which has a very similar construction, but received much higher scores for motion isolation and pressure relief. On the flip side, the Sparrow earned much higher marks for responsiveness and is considerably cheaper. If you’re interested, look at our full Beautyrest Black mattress review.
The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress matched the responsiveness score of the Sparrow and earned higher scores in every other performance category, but again, you’ll pay about $600 to $1,000 more for the Casper Wave and will be protected by only a 10-year warranty. Our Casper Wave Hybrid mattress review will tell you all you need to know.
Finally, we’ll bring it closer to home with the Owl Hybrid Latex mattress (formerly the Natural Hybrid Latex). This Nest Bedding mattress model swaps memory foam for natural latex. That change marginally improves motion transfer and noticeably enhances pressure relief. Read our Owl Hybrid Latex mattress review for more information.

How do I protect my Sparrow mattress?
We highly recommend using a waterproof mattress protector. It will keep liquids, stains, and dead skin cells off of your mattress—not to mention nasty allergens like dust mites and mold. If you need to transport your mattress after it’s been unboxed, zip it into a mattress bag and lay it flat in the moving truck. Storing innerspring or coil mattresses vertically can cause the materials to fix and become defective.
What is the Lifetime Comfort Guarantee?
Nest Bedding mattress owners can claim 30% off their next Nest Bedding mattress as long as they haven’t exchanged or returned their previous mattress. The guarantee is redeemable only once per customer, and all sales are final.
Where can I try a Nest Bedding mattress in person?
Nest Bedding has showrooms in select states where you can try all of their different models to see which is the best mattress for you. Find the closest location on the Nest Bedding website.
Can I return my mattress before day 30 of the trial period?
You can always return an unboxed mattress before day 30, but you’ll be charged a 25% restocking fee. If your mattress has been unboxed, you must keep it for 30 days before returning.
Does the Sparrow mattress have a fire barrier?
Yep! The fire barrier is non-chemical hydrogenated silica.
