In short: The Avocado Latex mattress is nine inches of all-natural latex foam. As the brand’s first all-foam latex mattress, it provides the responsive support of latex without the additional bounce of a spring mattress. The Avocado Latex is both naturally durable and cooling, great for hot sleepers and anyone looking to invest in a more eco-friendly sleep.

The Best of This Mattress
The Avocado Latex mattress is 100% organic certified, non-toxic and biodegradable. Like all of the Avocado mattresses, its construction is full of organic and natural materials like GOTS organic certified wool and cotton and Dunlop latex. In this mattress review, we’ll break down the pros and cons, look at the construction, and determine if you need to replace your old mattress with the Avocado Latex mattress.
What Makes the Avocado Latex Stand Out?
While the Avocado Latex features some of the same organic materials as other Avocado mattresses, it does not feature any springs. The latex-foam combination creates a relatively firm mattress with three targeted zones to protect pressure points and enough contouring to prevent back pain. The latex core provides the lift that stomach sleepers and back sleepers need to protect their lower backs.

The Pros and the Cons
✅ Pros
- Cooling: Both Dunlop latex and wool are naturally cooling materials. Sleepers will not feel heat trapped against their bodies and will be able to sleep temperature neutral.
- Responsiveness: The patented Convoluted Latex is made with a zig-zagging wave pattern, allowing the sleeper to float on top of the layers instead of sinking in. This makes changing position much easier.
- Environmentally-friendly: Avocado mattresses are carbon negative, meaning no carbon emission from production. The Avocado Latex is organic certified latex, antimicrobial and available in a vegan version, without wool.
❌ Cons
- Motion Transfer: While the wave structure of the latex absorbs some motion, the Avocado Latex may not isolate motion as well as an all-foam mattress.
- Pressure Relief: The Avocado Latex is the firmest mattress by Avocado, prioritizing responsiveness more than a sinking foam feeling for better pressure relief.
Edge Support
Most sleepers should be able to spread out on the Avocado Latex or sleep toward the edge while still feeling the targeted zoned layers. The latex layers are dense enough to provide support without caving in on the edge.
Motion Transfer
Memory foam mattresses are some of the best mattresses for couples who prioritize motion isolation. The latex-foam construction of the Avocado Latex has some bounce dampening qualities but will still transfer bounce when moving around.
Responsiveness
The patented waves of the Convoluted Latex is designed to provide a balance between relieving comfort and bounce. The three targeted zones of latex support provide softer comfort under the shoulders and firmer support under the hips, important for sleepers as they change positions. The Avocado Latex provides more pressure relief and a little less bounce than a latex hybrid mattress, with pocketed coils.
Firmness
Avocado rates this mattress as a 7.5/10 on the mattress firmness scale, firmer than the average medium-firm feel of most mattresses. This firmness level will protect the lower back from sinking into the mattress or the spine falling out of alignment.

Will It Support Your Sleeping Position?
Similar to the Avocado Green mattress, we recommend the Avocado Latex for stomach sleepers, back sleepers and combination sleepers. The firm latex construction provides proper spinal alignment and keeps the hips lifted above the mattress layers.

Temperature Regulation
This natural mattress uses organic wool and breathable latex to create airflow within the mattress. While the Avocado Latex does not feature a coil system, it will sleep neutral for hot sleepers. If you are an especially hot sleeper, you may want to check out an innerspring mattress on our best cooling mattresses list.

Weight Capacity
The firm support of the Avocado Latex mattress allows it to support some heavier sleepers, or those weighing over 230 lbs, without collapsing under increased weight. However, heavier side sleepers may experience some pressure buildup and find the mattress too firm for any cradling around the body.
Bed Frame Compatibility
Avocado mattresses are compatible with most foundations, except a traditional box spring. Because latex mattresses have a natural bounce, Avocado says the additional bounce of a box spring may cause the mattress to feel differently.

A Look Inside
The Avocado Latex mattress is an eco-friendly mattress made of nine inches of latex-foam.

- Organic cotton and wool cover: These two high-quality materials are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified and provide soft comfort for the sleep to rest on. The quilted cover will prevent the sleeper from overheating.
- 2” Convoluted latex: The comfort layer of the Avocado Latex is made from contoured latex in Avocado’s patented wave design. Three targeted zones of support have a different feel for each area of the body.
- 3” latex core: The organic latex is designed to serve as a comfort and support layer.
- 4” inches of firm latex: Firm latex makes up the lower part of the mattress, giving it a firm feel without sacrificing bounce.

Unboxing and Set-up
Similar to other bed-in-a-box companies, the Avocado Latex arrives compressed and rolled in a box. The queen size of Avocado Latex weighs 140 pounds, making for a heavy mattress to unbox. All of the packaging materials are recyclable and the organic construction should prevent a strong off-gassing scent.

Shipping & Returns
The Avocado Latex foam mattress is handmade in California and ships free throughout the United States. Mattresses can be returned before the end of 1-year trial period, and after the first 30 days of sleeping on the mattress. Contact support@avocadomattress.com to initiate the return process.
Trial Period & Warranty
With one of the longer trial periods in the online mattress industry, the Avocado Latex comes with a yearlong sleep trial. Avocado recommends sleeping on the mattress for at least 30 days before initiating a return.
Avocado mattresses also come with a 25 year warranty—full coverage for the first 10 years and limited-prorated coverage for the following 15 years. The warranty protects against workmanship defects but does not cover normal wear and tear from misuse of the mattress.
Should You Buy It?
Avocado produces some of the best organic mattresses available online. The Avocado Latex mattress is no exception, with certified organic certified latex, cotton and wool. Avocado also boasts GREENGUARD Gold certification, a high mark of environmentally sustainable products. The unique latex foam construction produces a great mattress for combination sleepers who need to move around but still want some pressure relief. We also recommend the Avocado Latex for back and stomach sleepers, but side sleepers may consider adding a mattress topper or looking at Avocado’s pillow top mattress for additional pressure relief. If you’re not a fan of latex, Avocado also sells the Eco Organic mattress, which is a hybrid option that comes in a medium firmness.
