Awara Mattress Highlights

  • The Awara is a premium hybrid mattress made with sustainably sourced latex, wool, and cotton.
  • This mattress provides hybrid comfort for all sleeping styles. Pairing latex with 5-zoned pocket coils creates the perfect combination for premier support and contouring of the natural curvatures of the body. Latex mattresses strike the perfect balance between memory foam and innersprings—they aren’t too “sinky” or stiff but offer just the right amount of support for side, stomach and back sleepers.
  • Wool and latex are naturally breathable materials, meaning they help regulate your body temperature throughout the night.
  • The Awara mattress is made with a combination of organic and naturally sourced materials. This means the Awara mattress offers a healthy sleep consistently.

Score Breakdown

Set-up Test

It took us exactly 1:26 to unbox the Awara mattress. This mattress was on the heavier side but it puffed to life instantly. It had a very mild odor when it was first opened but it went away quickly.

So for our setup test, the Awara gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. You want this to be pretty minimal.

Part A – The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking both sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from one to ten how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

While our sleep subjects were testing motion transfer on the Awara, they noticed the movement they felt when their partner was tossing and turning was minimal. So for the first part of our motion transfer test, they gave the Awara an 8.5.

Part B – The Wine Test

Next, comes our wine test. This is a great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back a forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

When we had the wine glass on the Awara, there was barely any movement! So we gave it a 9.5 for our wine test.

Edge Support Test

When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test is a two-part test.

Part A – The Shoe Test

To start, we asked our sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

Support on the end of the Awara mattress, according to our testers, was quite exceptional. This mattress has a way of hugging you when you are close to the edge to keep you from sliding or rolling off. So for the shoe test, the Awara scored a 9.

Part B – The Side Test

Next, we had our sleep subjects lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

Once again, they found the edge of the Awara mattress actively keeping them on the surface. So for the edge support side test, this mattress scored a 9 once again.

So the Awara gets a total score of 9 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs, and shoulders. This is especially important for athletes when it comes to joint pain. Let’s take a look at how well the Awara mattress provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

When our mattress testers were on the Awara mattress, there was quite a bit of red on various areas of their bodies when laying on their side. Particularly, the hips and shoulders.

So for a total pressure relief score, the Awara gets a 7.5 out of 10.

Spine Alignment Test

Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake?  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both of our sleep subjects backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

This mattress did a good job keeping the base of the spine aligned (aka the mid to lower back). There was however a slight curve of the spine going towards the base of the neck.

For spine alignment, the Awara gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.

We had our mattress testers lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

The Awara did a pretty good job with responsiveness. Our sleep subjects said it responded quickly when they laid on their back and stomach, but it was a little less receptive of their shoulder when they turned to their side.

So the Awara mattress scored an 8.25 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What Makes Awara Different?

A Healthy Sleep

Over time, our mattresses get pretty dirty. They collect dust, dead skin cells, and sweat. Gross, we know. While there is little we can do about the things our body does while we sleep, we do have control over what type of mattress we sleep on. The Awara mattress is made of organic latex and other naturally sourced materials. This makes a big difference when it comes to giving you a clean and healthy sleep.

You see, latex is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites. Latex is also known for its cooling properties. The Awara also has 100% natural wool in its cover. Contrary to popular belief, wool naturally wicks moisture away from your body and helps regulate body temperature. All these things mean is that the Awara mattress can help postpone the build-up of bacteria and other microbes in your mattress. Another plus? Awara did its best to create a mattress as natural and chemical-free as possible so they could offer a product that’s better for your health, better for the environment, and, of course, better for your sleep.

5-Zoned Support

The core of the Awara mattress is made of nine inches of individually wrapped pocket coils that help ensure full body support and spinal alignment while you sleep. Unlike other mattresses that usually offer only 2 or 3 zone support, the Awara mattress is built using a unique 5-zone pocket coil system. These added zones provide targeted, multi-zone support to evenly distribute weight and reduce motion transfer.

One Year Trial Run

When it comes to buying a mattress, allowing customers to take a mattress home to sleep on in the comfort of their home risk-free is rare. What’s even more uncommon is allowing customers to sleep on a mattress for a whole year and still allowing them to return it for a full refund. When you shop with Awara, you don’t need to go through buyer’s remorse. If you don’t like how you are sleeping on the Awara after 30 nights (or up to night 364), you can call the customer service team and they’ll come to get the mattress for you and give you all your money back.

Bettering our Planet so You can Sleep Easier at Night

In an effort to do right by our planet, Awara has joined forces with ClimatePartner to plant a tree for every mattress sold in support of climate protection and reducing their carbon footprint.

What to watch out for

  • Be aware that your Awara mattress may have a mild scent when you unbox it – this is normal and should go away within a few hours.
  • It may take up to 30 nights to get used to sleeping on your Awara mattress – particularly if your previous mattress was a traditional innerspring mattress.

Customer Reviews on the Awara

I’ve tried multiple mattresses already and was never able to find one that had that just right feeling for me, until I tried the Awara mattress. It’s not too soft and not too firm, it really is just right! I’d recommend this mattress to anyone looking for something that is soft yet perfectly supportive without being stiff or lumpy David I.
I absolutely love this mattress. It’s a hybrid, and I think that that contributes to it being fluffy feeling yet supportive at the same time. My cat never sleeps anywhere else either. It’s hard to move him in the morning when I want to make the bed! I’d definitely recommend this mattress. Beth N.

My wife and I are in our 60s and have pretty standard aches in the morning, or at least what we thought were pretty standard. After sleeping on Awara for the past few months, we’ve both felt much more energetic during the day and like we are 10 years younger. Much less joint stiffness. Now we are telling all of our friends about Awara and how they have to try it. Peter S.
Often I have to travel for work and I am lucky enough to have been put up in more than one 5 star hotel. The bed in these places are extremely comfortable, so I don’t say this lightly when I say that Awara feels akin to sleeping at a 5 star hotel. Every morning I wake up is a struggle to get out of bed, in the best possible way. I don’t want to leave the delicious comfort of this mattress! Lynn C.

If I were you and reading these reviews and wondering if you should choose Awara, I say just go ahead and do it. Delivery, shipping, and returns are all free, plus you have an entire year to sleep on it before deciding for sure whether or not you want to keep it. Even if you don’t, Awara will come and pick it up for you if you want to return it. It’s so easy. I’m saying all of this because it’s worth trying out if you’re afraid that it’d be too much of a hassle. It’s not. It’s also a truly incredible mattress, so don’t wait. Try it for yourself and enjoy better sleep. Matthew W.
A 365 day trial period is almost completely unheard of in the mattress industry, and really speaks to the Awara company as a whole. I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for about two months and I love it. Would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a great night of sleep. Poppy N.
High high quality for an extremely affordable price is exactly what I look for when I purchase...basically anything! Awara definitely falls under these categories. As soon as you unpackage it you can just feel the lush comfort and high quality workmanship that was put into this piece. Choosing a new mattress is usually an investment because they all tend to cost a pretty penny, but, for the quality, Awara is an extremely affordable option. Great all around. Alan B.
