Overview: Casper has teamed up with Costco to offer another affordable memory foam mattress, similar to its Original. What sets this mattress, also referred to as the Select, apart is its extra inch of height and additional foam layer. Since it incorporates a special zone support layer, it has near-perfect pressure relief and keeps your spine in an ideal position.

- Casper uses CertiPUR-US certified foam in all its layers, meaning they don’t use ozone-depleting chemicals.
- The third layer has a zoned support system to provide targeted pressure relief and spinal alignment.
- This mattress scored high in motion transfer and edge support, making it a great bed for those who sleep with a partner or dog.
- Casper offers the Select in both an all-foam and hybrid model, allowing you to pick based on your preferred mattress type.

⭐Total Score for the Casper Select Mattress: 8.8/10⭐
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros
- Motion Transfer: Since the Select uses Casper’s signature memory foam layers, it does an excellent job at absorbing motion so you can sleep with a partner without sacrificing your sleep quality.
- Edge Support: Despite being a memory foam mattress, which tends to be known for having no edge support, the Select Mattress did a great job of holding our testers when they sat on the end of the bed.
- Spine Alignment: Our tester’s spine was very straight thanks to the Select Mattress’s targeted zone support.
❌ Cons
- Limited Size Options: The Casper Select doesn’t come in any twin or split sizes so if you are looking for a bed for a smaller space or want one that splits, you may need to look elsewhere.
- Cooling: During our evaluation, this mattress scored pretty average in our cooling category, making it a poor choice for those who sleep hot.
- Member Only Item: Unlike Casper’s other mattresses, which you can purchase from their website, the Select is a Costco-exclusive item only available to members of the store.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer looks at whether a mattress can absorb motions that occur on one side of the bed so that they don’t travel to the other side. This is especially important for those who co-sleep.
In our evaluation, we had one tester lie with their eyes closed while another tester got in bed. The second tester moved around and then got out of bed to see if the one with their eyes closed could feel their movement. The verdict – they barely felt anything!
Edge Support
Having good edge support ensures that you stay in bed at night and don’t tumble to the floor. This is also helpful for the elderly or those who need help getting into bed.
Typically we see higher edge support scores for hybrids since they have coil reinforcement around the perimeter and lower scores for memory foam mattresses since they lack this feature. The Casper Select surprised us by having superb edge support. Our testers felt fully supported when sitting and lying on the edge of the bed.
Pressure Relief
To test pressure relief, we use a special pressure map tool that depicts pressure buildup areas in warm colors. Map images with all cool colors show that the mattress does a great job of relieving pressure.
When our tester lay on their side, the map showed mostly cool colors. There was a small spot of red in the elbow area, but overall it had a great reading.

Next, we had our tester lie on their back and saw that again there were mostly blues and greens. The elbow and leg area had a slight spot of red. Overall, the pressure relief was pretty good, but we gave it an 8/10 since it had a few areas of pressure buildup.

Spine Alignment
Remember when your teacher used to tell you to sit up straight? Well, lying straight is just as important since it ensures your back gets the support it needs at night. The Casper Select did a good job of keeping our tester’s back in a neutral position, earning a near-perfect 9/10 score.

Where Does It Fall on the Firmness Scale?
Casper identifies its Select Mattress as a medium-firm mattress, but we felt it was more of a medium soft one, falling at a 6/10 on the firmness scale. This is a bed where you will sleep “in” rather than “on” it and may be too soft for those who prefer firmer mattresses.

Does the Casper Select Sleep Cool?
The Casper Select is your typical memory foam mattress that traps heat and doesn’t keep you cool. While we loved the super soft mattress cover, it wasn’t very cool to the touch. If you feel this mattress hits the nail on all your other wish list items, consider buying a cooling mattress pad to adjust the temperature to a more comfortable level.

What Sleeping Position Does It Work For?
As a medium-soft mattress, the Casper Select works with a majority of sleeping positions. We think that back sleepers, especially, will like this bed since it does a good job of keeping the spine aligned. It also scored pretty well for responsiveness, something combination sleepers need, and gives good pressure relief, which is helpful for side sleepers.
Stomach sleepers may need a firmer mattress to ensure their hips are elevated. This bed definitely has a sink-into-it feel, something that doesn’t support stomach sleepers very well, particularly if you are plus-size.

How Much Weight Does the Casper Select Mattress Support?
While Casper designs its mattresses to work with all types of bodies and doesn’t give their beds weight limits, we think some heavy-weight sleepers may find this bed to cause them to sink too much. Heavy side sleepers, in particular, may have too much pressure buildup. If you weigh over 250 lbs, you may want to consider an innerspring mattress, like the Helix Plus, which is firmer and can hold more. The Casper Select hybrid may also offer better support.
What Foundations or Bed Frames Are Compatible?
the Select Mattress works well with adjustable bases, solid wood platform bed frames, and bed frames with wooden slats that are no more than 3″ apart. Casper doesn’t recommend using a traditional box spring or bed frames with metal slats since they tend to not support the memory foam layers properly.

Casper Select Mattress Materials
The Casper Select is a four-layer memory foam mattress. See what each layer contains below.

- Breathable Top Layer: The first foam layer contains a perforated foam that promotes airflow on the surface.
- Pressure-Relieving Foam: This foam layer helps relieve major pressure buildup areas in the hips and lower back.
- Zoned Support: Casper’s signature zoned support layer offers ergonomic benefits and helps keep the spine aligned.
- Dynamic Support Foam: At the bottom is a thicker foam layer, which supports the entire mattress structure.

Is the Casper Select Right for You?
Buying the Casper Select is a wise choice for those wanting an affordable medium-firm mattress. Its exceptional motion isolation and edge support make it a great choice for couples. We also think that back sleepers will appreciate its high abilities to keep your spine aligned.
Since this is a Costco-member exclusive item, we don’t recommend it for those without a membership. Instead, consider one of Casper’s other memory foam mattresses like the Original. It also comes
What's the difference between the Casper Select and Casper Original mattresses?
The main difference between the Casper Select and the Casper Original mattresses is that the Select has an extra inch of height and foam layer. The Casper Select also has a lower price tag and scores higher for motion isolation, making it a better option for budget-friendly shoppers and couples. However, Casper offers more size options for its Original mattress, and its flagship earned a perfect 10/10 for responsiveness.
