Set up test

Doze took us just about two minutes to set up. We noticed a large coffee-colored stain on the back of the mattress when we first opened it. There was a slight off-gassing smell and it came with a little too much packaging.  This mattress took some time to expand to its full shape.

So for our setup test, Doze gets a 6.5 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. You want this to be pretty minimal.

Part A - The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking both RJ and Asha to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from one to ten how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

The Doze didn’t do a great job at keeping motion transfer to a minimum. RJ and Asha gave it a collective score of 6.75.

Part B - The Wine

Next, comes our wine test. This is great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had RJ lie down and roll back a forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

The wine was a little wobbly as RJ rolled around.  So we gave it a 7.5.

So for a total motion transfer score, we gave Doze a 7.1 out of 10.

Edge Support Test

When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test has two parts.

Part A - The Shoe Test

To start, we asked both RJ and Asha to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

RJ and Asha noted a little difficulty feeling secure during this test. So we gave the Doze a 7 for the edge shoe test.

Part B - The Side Test

Next, we had RJ and Asha lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

Once again, RJ and Asha found it a little difficult to lay on the edge without feeling like they would fall off.  So for the edge support side, the Doze scored a 7.5.

So Doze gets a 7.25 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. No one wants to wake up sore because of their bed… Let’s take a look at how well the Doze provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

We saw mainly blue and green on RJ! So we gave him a 9 for pressure relief.

We saw the tiniest bit of red in Asha’s shoulder so we gave her an 8.

So for a total pressure relief score, Doze gets a 8.5 out of 10.

Spine Alignment Test

Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake?  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both RJ and Asha’s backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

Both RJ and Asha’s spines were pretty straight with a slight curve towards the base of the neck.

For spine alignment, Doze gets a 8.5 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.

We had RJ and Asha lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

Even if you change sleeping positions during the night, you’ll be able to stay dozed on this mattress.

So Doze gets a 8 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What Doze customers have to say

  • “I would highly recommend a Doze Bed to anyone and everyone! I purchased a king size bed in the past and loved it so much that we recently just purchased a full size for my 3-year-old. Not only is the mattress pure bliss to sleep on, the customer service was outstanding and it was delivered super fast. Thank you Doze!!!” – Ashley M.
  • “Wow! I’ve been sleeping like a baby! I’ve had the mattress for about a month now and could not be happier. I was a little worried when I saw it was memory foam, as I had tried adding a mattress topper to my old bed, but this is WAY better. The support mattress portion is great and sturdy enough for great sleep!” – Neil K.
  • “The bed arrived as advertised, communication was excellent, and the unboxing was a breeze (did it by myself in 5 minutes time).
    • Immediate reactions: PROS: comfortable, large enough for two and a dog, cool to the touch, good balance of cushion and firmness. CONS: Not tall enough to place on the ground by itself (traditionally I preferred a mattress alone on the ground)
    • 4 months in: The bed has changed my thoughts on sleeping. I am getting the best and most comfortable rest I have had since I was a kid. My lower back has gone away, it took a few weeks, but I have not had the issue since. PROS: size (two adults and a dog fit comfortably), cool to the touch, relaxing. CONS: I do not have any at this time.” – Paul P.
