EcoSleep Luxe Review at a Glance

March Mattress of the Month

The EcoSleep Luxe is an affordable, sustainable option for those concerned about the materials making up their mattress. With multiple layers of all-natural latex, it easily adjusts to your motions at night. This mattress has a flippable design so that you can choose between a medium and firm surface. The Luxe model, which is the one we tested, comes with a zippered plush top cover for extra cushioning. In this review, we’ll share some pros and cons, recommend what type of sleeper it’s best for, and reveal how it scored in our mattress lab.

What We Love About the EcoSleep Luxe Mattress

  • Dual Design: This flippable mattress allows you to pick between a medium-firm and firm sleep surface based on your preference.
  • Sustainably Sourced Materials: The EcoSleep Luxe is crafted with Rain Forest Alliance-certified latex, organic cotton, recycled metal, and Joma Wool™.
  • American Made: Since 1995, Brooklyn Bedding has been making mattresses in their United States factories.
  • Affordable Cost: Unlike other sustainable mattresses, the EcoSleep is reasonably priced for those on a budget, with a queen mattress priced at $1,249.

How We Scored the EcoSleep Luxe Mattress

Check out how the EcoSleep mattress performed during our in-house testing. When evaluating mattresses, we review 14 different scores and rate them on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being they blew us away and one being there’s some room for improvement. Then we multiply the score by their weighted average and add all the totals for each category to get a weighted average for the mattress score. ⭐Total Score for the EcoSleep Luxe Mattress: 8.6/10⭐

The Good and the Bad

✅ Pros

  • Responsiveness: Due to its bouncy construction, combination sleepers will find it easy to change positions throughout the night.
  • Pressure Relief: This mattress does an excellent job of providing a whole-body pressure relief so you know your sore muscles are getting the support they need after a long day.
  • Set Up: The EcoSleep mattress takes its shape fairly quickly after unboxing it and placing it on a sleep surface which means you don’t have to wait long to test it out!

❌ Cons

  • Cooling: Since the EcoSleep mattress uses natural materials, we noticed it didn’t do as good a job at cooling as compared to some other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses, like the Propel.
  • Motion Transfer: If you have a partner who moves around at night it’s important to find a bed that ranks high on motion transfer, which unfortunately the EcoSleep fell short on, scoring a 7.5/10.

Pressure Relief

Side sleepers may find discomfort when sleeping on the EcoSleep since it doesn’t provide pressure relief in the shoulder area but we didn’t notice any pressure buildup for those lying on their back. In fact, in both positions, our pressure map showed mostly blue and green shadings, which means it does a great job of relieving pressure.

Edge Support

The EcoSleep mattress overall had nice edge support. When sitting on the end of the mattress and leaning over to put on shoes we felt a good hold with a slight dip in the hip area. It also did a good job of holding us up when lying on the edge. We gave this a solid rank of 8/10 but if edge support is a deal-breaker for you, you may want to go with the Helix Dusk.

Spine Alignment

We found our testers maintained a straight spine when laying on the EcoSleep mattress. It’s important to maintain a proper spinal alignment when sleeping so your body can properly mend itself while you sleep.

Motion Transfer

For our motion transfer test, we place a glass of water on top of the mattress and drop a 10 lb. weight ball to see if the water moves. While the glass stayed put, we did notice a slight movement in the water. This means it would do a good job of isolating motion transfer but if you have a partner who moves around a lot at night, you may want to get a mattress with better motion isolation like the Leesa Original, which scored a solid 9/10 on motion transfer.

Where Does It Fall on the Firmness Scale?

The EcoSleep’s medium-firm side falls at a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, meaning it’s slightly firmer than a typical medium-firm mattress. This is due to the hybrid construction of the mattress. We rated the firm side an 8/10 since it gave us some pressure buildup and had minimal conforming.

What Sleeping Position Does It Work For?

The EcoSleep Luxe is a great option for stomach, back, and combination sleepers. Those who sleep on their sides may find the firmness to be uncomfortable since it creates pressure buildup in the shoulder area. If you find you tend to sleep on your side, you may want to consider one of our top mattresses for side sleepers.

Does the EcoSleep Luxe Sleep Cool?

The EcoSleep Luxe has an average cooling effect. We felt the quilted Joma™ wool restricted the coil support layer and its airflow benefits. For most sleepers, this will probably still provide enough breathability, but if you are a hot sleeper, you may want to consider one of our best cooling mattresses.

How Much Weight Does the EcoSleep Luxe Support?

Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep mattresses are built to support up to 950 lbs. For sleepers weighing more than 300 lbs., we suggest trying the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Plus, which offers more substantial support than the EcoSleep.

What Foundations or Bed Frames are Compatible?

Brooklyn Bedding EcoSleep mattresses work with a variety of solid foundations and bed frames. This includes solid wood platforms, metal platforms, and slatted metal or wood foundations. For slatted platforms, be sure the slats are no more than 4” apart.

EcoSleep Luxe Mattress Materials

The EcoSleep Luxe hybrid mattress uses a combination of latex and spring coil layers to create the contour and to cushion your back. All latex levels are 100% natural, meaning it comes directly from rubber tree sap and is free of outside fillers. The EcoSleep also uses organic cotton for the cover and recycled metal for the encased coils.

EcoSleep Coil System
  1. Quilted Top Layer: The EcoSleep Luxe mattress starts with a Joma™ Wool and organic cotton quilted topper on both sides for a breathable sleep surface. In the Luxe models, the cover is zippable so that users can rotate the foam layer to their preferred firmness side.
  2. 3″ Flippable Latex Foam Core: At the center of the EcoSleep Luxe mattress is a dual-sided latex layer with a 1.5″ firm surface and 1.5″ soft surface.
  3. 8” Coil Base: A base composed of 1,032 individually encased Ascension X® coils gives deep compression support and helps decrease motion transfer.
  4. 1.5” Latex Firm Layer: This firm, natural latex side gives sleepers a firmer surface option.
  5. .25″ Flex Base: The bottom of the EcoSleep mattress consists of a high-density flex base, which adds durability and reinforces the coil system above it.

Is the EcoSleep Luxe Right for You?

Now that we’ve taken a look inside, on top of, and around the EcoSleep Luxe, it’s time for you to decide if it’s your perfect match. As with any mattress purchasing decision you make, it’s important to consider what factors are most important to you. Are you someone who needs above average pressure relief? Do you care about the materials that go into making your mattress? If so, then this mattress may be a great investment for your home.

However, we understand that those factors may not be something everyone considers when looking for their next bed. If you’re someone who sleeps on their side, then the EcoSleep Luxe may not be the best choice for you since it could cause slight discomfort in your shoulder area. We also wouldn’t recommend this bed for those who prefer all-foam or softer mattresses. Consider instead checking out one of our best soft mattresses, like the Saatva Classic.

Finding the right mattress can improve not only your nights but also your days.
