GhostBed Flex Mattress Review

Take a look at our review of the Brooklyn Signature mattress and see how it performed in our testing to help you determine if this could be the mattress for you.

Score Breakdown

Set-up Test

It took us exactly two minutes to unbox and set up the GhostBed Flex mattress. This mattress was on the heavier side but it puffed to life instantly. It had a slight odor when it was first opened but it went away quickly. A queen size mattress weighs approximately 122 lbs so you’ll definitely want to recruit some help to get this bed set up.

So for our setup test, the GhostBed Flex gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. You want this to be pretty minimal.

Part A – The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking both sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from one to ten how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

The motion absorbing abilities of the GhostBed Flex mattress are scary good. Our sleep subjects could barely even tell when their partner was on the mattress; they didn’t feel them leave the bed at all.

For the first part of our motion transfer test, the GhostBed Flex scored a perfect score of 10 out of 10.

Part B – The Wine Test

Next, comes our wine test. This is a great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back a forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

Once again, the wine was hauntingly still. We gave the GhostBed Flex a score of 9.5 for the wine test.

So the GhostBed Flex scored a Mattress Advisor all-time high of 9.75 in our motion transfer test.

Edge Support Test

When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test is a two-part test.

Part A – The Shoe Test

To start, we asked our sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

Support on the end of the GhostBed Flex mattress was very good. Our testers felt the edge did a good job supporting their weight while they were sitting. So for the shoe test, the GhostBed Flex gets a 9 out of 10.

Part B – The Side Test

Next, we had our sleep subjects lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

They found the edge of this mattress was equally supportive and comfy. They scored it a 9.5 for the second part of our edge support test.

So the GhostBed Flex gets a total score of 9.25 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. This is especially important for athletes when it comes to joint pain. Let’s take a look at how well the GhostBed Flex mattress provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

When on the GhostBed Flex we noticed a couple of areas of high pressure on our sleep subjects, particularly in the hips and shoulders.

As a result, the GhostBed Flex earned a score of 8 out of 10 for our pressure relief test.

Spine Alignment Test

Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake?  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both of our sleep subjects backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

The spines of our sleep subjects while on the GhostBed Flex were well taken care of—they were nearly in perfect alignment.

So for spine alignment, the GhostBed Flex gets an 8.75 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.

We had our mattress testers lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

The GhostBed Flex knows its sleepers. It does an excellent job shaping and responding to the curvature and movements of sleepers.

It scored a 9 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What to Watch Out For

  • The GhostBed Luxe may have an odor upon unboxing. This should go away within a few days, but it’s best to let it air out before putting sheets on it.
  • It may take up to 30 nights to get used to sleeping on your new GhostBed Flex mattress – particularly if your previous mattress was a traditional innerspring mattress.

Customer Reviews on the GhostBed Flex

Bed has been phenomenal. I have had issues with 3 herniated lumbar discs for 4 years now and I have been waking up feeling so much better than our old bed. Great price for the quality as well and I love promotion so the free pillows were an awesome value. Not to mention they are super comfy. Me and my wife sleep sooooooo much better now. The products are everything they say they are. Thank you Zach M.
Had been having back pain. Finally after chiropractor and muscle relaxers and nothing helping I decided to get a new bed. Loved the idea of still having some bounce with the memory foam. My wife and I don’t want to get up in the morning! Gabriel P.
Ordered Ghost Bed after conducting some extensive research on cooling technology. After placing order, was told the mattress was in stock but the base was on back order. Mattress arrived quickly but waited a few weeks for the adjustable base. Once bed was assembled, I started sleeping like a baby. The quality of sleep I now received was well worth the wait. If you’re looking for a super comfortable mattress with some of the best cooling technology on the market...look no further. William S.
