Helix Twilight Highlights

The Twilight by Helix is one of the very few firm mattresses designed with pressure relief in mind. By pairing slow-response memory foam with pocketed coils, Helix has created an excellent mattress for heavy side sleepers and others who like the firm foam feel.
We brought the Twilight to our lab in New York and scored it in our 14-point evaluation. Learn how it performed, who it’s best for, and how it compares to other Helix mattresses in our Twilight mattress review.
What Worked for Us:
- The Twilight’s dense memory foam top layer offers cushioning and a firm feel, making it a great choice for plus-size people who need both support and pressure relief.
- A hybrid design with ample airflow through the innerspring coils ensures that the Twilight is a good option for hot sleepers.
- Helix wants you to be comfortable, so they’ll send you a complimentary topper if you find your new mattress too soft or too firm.
Testing Scores
In order to determine the quality of a mattress we put it through a number of tests in our on-site sleep lab, as well as assess aspects of the purchasing experience, such as customer service, shipping, and trial period. All of these factors contribute to the mattress’s MA score.

⭐Total Score for the Helix Twilight Mattress: 8.8/10⭐
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros
- Edge Support: As a firm mattress, the Helix Twilight does a great job of providing the much needed support when sleepers lay on the edge or sit to put on their shoes.
- Spinal Alignment: During our review, our testers had nearly straight backs, earning a 9/10 in this category.
- Cooling: Hot sleepers will find that the hybrid build of the Twilight does a good job of keeping heat from getting trapped in the foam.
- Responsiveness: The top foam layer does a great job of keeping up with your movements, making it easy to move around at night.
- Durability: Heavy sleepers shouldn’t have a problem with sinking too far into the mattress. However, the Twilight does not sacrifice any comfort in its sturdiness.
❌ Cons
- Firmness: Like Goldilocks, everyone needs to do a little work to find their perfect mattress. The Twilight’s high firmness isn’t necessarily a con, but it may not be your cup of tea — or porridge.
- Pressure Relief: Overall, the Twilight scored high on pressure relief, but one of our testers did find that it was not quite as successful while he was on his back and his stomach.
- Motion Transfer: A score of 8.5 certainly isn’t a bad motion transfer score, but light sleepers who are especially sensitive to their partner’s (or pet’s) movements may want to consider alternatives.
Edge Support
A bed’s edge support score reflects how well the sides hold up under weight. If you tend to roll right up to the edge of your bed or even just sit on it to tie your shoes in the morning then you’ll want a mattress with strong edge support.
In this category, the Twilight absolutely delivers. There was no worry that we might spill off of the bed, no matter how close we got to the brink.

Motion Transfer
As we mentioned above, the motion transfer test measures how well a bed isolates movement. The higher the motion isolation score, the less likely you are to be woken up by a restless partner’s tossing and turning. There are two primary tests in this category: the wine test and the human motion test.
For the wine test, a glass of wine is placed on one side of the Helix while our tester moves around. When we did this, it didn’t jostle too much when we rolled around on the other side — a good sign! The human motion test was somewhat disheartening, though. While blindfolded, we found that it was still quite apparent when our partner was getting in and out of bed, or even just moving slightly.
Spine Alignment
It is important for a mattress to contour to your spine’s natural alignment. If the alignment gets thrown out of whack it can lead to aches and pains, especially in your lower back. We found that the Twilight did a great job keeping everything where it should be, especially when we were on our stomachs.

Product Details
The Helix Twilight is a firm mattress, registering at an 8.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale. A comfort layer of slow-response memory foam provides impressive pressure relief while maintaining a firm and supportive feel. This is a mattress you don’t have to worry about sinking into.

Will It Work with My Sleeping position?
Stomach and back sleepers should find that the Twilight does a good job of keeping their spine aligned, which can help prevent and/or eliminate morning aches and pains. And combination sleepers will likely appreciate the high responsiveness as they bounce from one position to the next with ease.
Side sleepers, on the other hand, may find that the high firmness causes some excessive pressure on their hips and shoulders. Most side sleepers prefer a bed that allows these areas to sink comfortably into the surface. Check out our Best Mattresses for Side Sleepers article for some recommendations.

Does It Stay Cool?
Like most hybrid mattresses, the Helix Twilight sleeps quite cool. The layer of pocketed coils prevents heat from being absorbed from your body and trapped in the dense memory foam. When checking out, you can also choose to keep the breathable Soft Touch Cover or upgrade to the GlacioTex Cooling Cover, which pulls heat away from your body.

Is There a Weight Limit?
The Helix Twilight mattress can support people who weigh up to 500 lbs. Thanks to its high-density foam construction and reinforced perimeter, it’s one of the best mattresses that we’ve tested for plus-size people.
What Foundations or Bed Frames Can be Used with Twilight?
The Twilight needs a firm, durable bed frame. Good options are slatted bed frames, adjustable bases, and platform frames. Helix doesn’t recommend using a box spring unless you add a bunkie board on top for superior support.

What is the Twilight Mattress Made of?
The Twilight is a 4-layer memory foam hybrid mattress. Here’s a breakdown of the Twilight’s construction and how each layer influences the mattress’s feel.

- Helix Soft Touch Mattress Cover: A soft, stretchy cover that promotes breathability.
- Memory Foam Plus Comfort Layer: High-density memory foam with a firm feel slowly contours to the body, minimizing pain at pressure points like the hips and shoulders.
- High-Grade Polyfoam Transition Layer: A durable, firm polyurethane foam stops sagging and provides full-body support.
- Wrapped Coil Support Layer: Individually-encased coils provide targeted give and support. Special coils are used along the mattress perimeter for excellent edge support.
- DuraDense Foam Base Layer: A durable high-density polyfoam boosts longevity.

Helix Twilight Mattress Unpacking
The Helix Twilight took us about 1 minute 26 seconds to unbox and set up. There was an off-gassing odor, but it wasn’t too bad.

Helix Delivery Information
Helix is a US-based mattress company that makes each new mattress by hand once it’s ordered. Because the beds aren’t waiting in a warehouse, the shipping time is longer than that of the average online mattress. The Helix Twilight typically arrives between 5-15 days from the date the order is placed.* You don’t have to be home to sign for your mattress, and shipping is free.
*COVID-19 has impacted shipping times. Check with Helix for a current delivery estimate.
A Look at the Trial
The Helix Twilight comes with a 100-night trial and full refund if you decide it’s not the right mattress for you. This is the most common trial period for bed-in-a-box mattresses.
You must wait 30 days before initiating a return. It takes time for a new mattress to reach its final feel and your body also needs time to adjust to a new bed. If you find that you’re not as comfortable as you’d hoped, contact Helix between days 30 and 100 to start the return process.
Explaining the Warranty
The Twilight mattress comes with Helix’s 10-year warranty. This covers defects in materials and workmanship, including indentations of greater than 1”. To submit a claim, contact Helix customer service.
Helix’s Customer Service Team
Helix customer care is available weekdays from 10 am-6 pm EST. To get in touch with them, you can schedule a call, fill out a form for email communication, or utilize the help chat feature on their website. Visit their contact page for more details.
It hasn’t been as easy to get in touch with a Helix representative as we would expect. Helix explains that they’re experiencing heavy purchase and call volumes due to COVID-19. It can take a full week to receive an email back, and even longer for a phone call.
Breaking Down the Return Policy
You can return your mattress after the 30-day waiting period but before the end of the 100-night sleep trial. To do so, reach out to Helix’s customer care team and they’ll help find a local charity to take the bed. Once the donation is complete, you can expect a refund on your original form of payment.
Is the Helix Twilight Right for You?
The Helix Twilight is a mattress that will appeal to anyone looking for a firm sleeping surface. Heavier sleepers will appreciate the way that the dense foam keeps them from sinking too far below the surface, and the layer of innerspring coils will keep even the hottest sleepers cool.
That said, the very thing that makes this a great mattress for some likely makes it a bad choice for others. Not everyone is after an 8.5 on the firmness scale, and would prefer something a bit, if not a lot, softer. If that sounds like you, check out our article on the Best Soft Mattresses.
Helix Twilight Mattress Comparisons
Helix Twilight vs Other Firm Mattresses
Most firm mattresses are designed for back and stomach sleepers, but not the Twilight. Helix uses high-density memory foam in the Twilight for a firm feel that cushions pressure points, making it ideal for plus-size side sleepers.
The Twilight vs Other Helix Mattresses
The Twilight vs the Standard Helix Mattress Collection
One of our favorite things about Helix is that they understand that there is no one-size-fits-all mattress. To accommodate the unique needs of every sleeper, Helix has created 6 hybrid mattresses with varying firmness levels and benefits. Here’s how the Twilight compares to the other Helix mattress models.
Helix Twilight vs. Helix Midnight
Criteria | Helix Twilight | Helix Midnight |
Mattress Advisor Score | 8.8/10 | 8.7/10 |
Firmness | Firm (8.5/10) | Firm (7/10) |
Material | Hybrid | Hybrid |
Who’s It Best For? |
|
|
The Helix Midnight and Helix Twilight both feature a pressure-relieving memory foam comfort layer, making both mattresses great picks for back sleepers and folks with back pain. These beds offer firm support but still cushion the joints and lower back. But the Helix Twilight feels firmer than the Helix Midnight, which makes it a better choice for sleepers who prefer a truly firm (as opposed to more medium-firm) mattress.
The Twilight is also a good choice for stomach sleepers, who need extra support to keep their spines aligned. On the other hand, the Helix Midnight is a better choice for couples. It transfers less motion than the Twilight, so you’ll be less disturbed by a partner moving around on this bed. Combination sleepers who spend part of the night on their sides might also prefer the Midnight.

Helix Twilight vs. Helix Dawn
Criteria | Helix Twilight | Helix Dawn |
Mattress Advisor Score | 8.8/10 | 8.7/10 |
Firmness | Firm (8.5/10) | Firm (8.5/10) |
Material | Hybrid | Hybrid |
Who’s It Best For? |
|
|
The Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight are Helix’s firmest mattresses. In fact, they both score an 8.5/10 on the firmness scale. But, the Twilight has a memory foam top layer, while the Dawn has a dynamic foam top layer. This means the Dawn will feel less pressure-relieving and slightly firmer than the Twilight.
It also means the Dawn is a better choice for stomach sleepers, who do best on firm beds. The Dawn is also a better choice for sleepers who don’t like the feel of memory foam. On the other hand, the supportive Twilight is a better pick for back sleepers with back pain. It will keep their spines straight and aligned at night, but still offer some pressure relief at the hips and lower back.

Twilight vs Sunset
While the Helix Sunset and Twilight are both designed to provide the pressure relief that side sleepers need, their firmness and feel are different. The Sunset is incredibly plush, perfect for lightweight people and anyone who finds most mattresses too firm. The Twilight uses high-density memory foam for a firm yet pressure-relieving feel that’s designed for plus-size side sleepers.
Twilight vs Moonlight
The Helix Moonlight is a soft bed whose contouring and support works well for side and back sleepers who weigh less than 130 lbs. The Twilight is a firm mattress that utilizes memory foam for optimal pressure relief, especially for side sleepers who weigh more than 230 lbs.
Twilight vs Dusk
The Helix Dusk is softer than the Twilight and designed to balance support and cushion. The Twilight is much firmer, but thanks to its memory foam comfort layer, it delivers superior cushion at major pressure points.
If you’re not sure which mattress best fits your needs, Helix has designed a sleep quiz to help you choose the right model.
The Twilight vs Helix LUXE Mattress Collection
Every one of the Helix mattresses outlined above comes in a more luxurious version in the Helix LUXE mattress line. While the LUXE mattresses are engineered to support the same types of sleepers as their original mattresses, they differ in a variety of ways that may make them a better fit. Here’s what separates the baseline and LUXE models.
- Pillow top: Every LUXE mattress has an additional layer—a luxurious pillow top. We love the pillow top feel for anyone who needs extra cushion or enjoys a more lavish mattress feel.
- Zoned lumbar support: The LUXE mattresses have firmer coils along the heavier parts of the body and softer coils at the shoulders. This zoned support ensures optimal body alignment and pressure relief, great for people with aches and pains.
- Tencel mattress cover: While both beds have cooling mattress covers, the LUXE’s cover is even more breathable thanks to its all-natural Tencel fabric.
- Bolstered edge support: The LUXE mattresses have even sturdier edges thanks to firmer springs along the mattress perimeter. This makes the edges sturdier and more comfortable.
- Additional comfort layer: The LUXE beds have 3 layers of foam atop the supportive coil layer rather than 2. The additional foam offers even better cushion and contouring.
The Twilight vs the Plus
The Helix Plus mattress was created for the average plus-size sleeper. Its medium firmness level and thick profile ensure a balance between cushioning and support that works for all sleeping positions.
The Twilight is firmer than the Plus, but it too works well for heavy people. Both utilize high-density memory foam and durable innerspring coils for pressure relief and responsive support.
The Plus is thicker and more expensive than the Twilight, but it comes with a more generous 15-year warranty. Opt for the Plus for a softer feel and the Twilight for a firmer sleeping experience.
The Twilight vs the Birch
The Birch by Helix is an eco-friendly mattress made from cotton, wool, latex, and steel coils. Its medium-firm feel is softer than the Twilight, although they both offer similar pressure relief and support. The Birch is more expensive and comes with a 25-year warranty in comparison to the Twilight’s 10-year warranty. Find out more in our Birch mattress review.
The Twilight vs the Helix Kids
The Helix Kids is a flippable mattress designed for children ages 3-12. Its soft side is a 4.5/10 on the firmness scale and the firmer side is a 6.5/10. Both the Twilight and the Helix Kids offer excellent spinal alignment and responsiveness. The Helix Kids is a great soft mattress option for young sleepers, while the Twilight does better for adults wanting a firmer bed.

Q.
Can I try the Helix mattresses in-person?
A.
The Helix Twilight mattress is on display at partner showrooms in many major cities across the United States. Visit the Helix website to see if there are any showrooms near you.
Q.
I spilled something on my mattress. Can I still return it during the 100-night sleep trial?
A.
It depends; if a nonprofit still accepts it for donation, you should be able to return it. But if the bed isn’t in good enough condition to be donated, Helix will not issue a refund. This is why we recommend using a waterproof mattress cover on every mattress, new or old.
Q.
Why are Helix mattresses so affordable?
A.
Helix is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand that sells their mattresses directly to you, the consumer. By skipping the showroom and sales people, Helix saves money that they pass on to you. This is why Helix and other online mattress brands deliver high-quality at affordable prices.
