Luxi One Mattress Review Highlights

Best Cheap Mattresses - Mattress Advisor

The Luxi One by LuxiSleep is a memory foam mattress with a unique composition. Unlike other all-foam mattresses, the Luxi One has a middle layer of memory foam designed to optimize point elasticity—meaning, the foams compress locally rather than over a large area. This shape-molding technology delivers targeted cushion and support for every sleep position.

The best parts:

  • The Luxi One memory foam mattress is made with proprietary shape-matching technology that perfects the level of “sink” you experience based on your body weight, sleep position, and pressure profile.
  • The Luxi One is designed with a series of air channels that allow a good amount of airflow. This helps keep sleepers cool and dry.
  • The Luxi One performed very well in our motion transfer and edge support tests. This tells us the Luxi mattress is a good option for couples and those who co-sleep.
  • It’s one of our top-rated best budget mattresses we’ve reviewed at Mattress Advisor!

Sleep Performance Highlights

✅ Pros

  • Supports a Healthy Spine: The Luxi One earned a nearly perfect score in our spine alignment evaluation. A healthy spine is important for everyone, but it is even more so for people with neck or back pain.
  • A Good Couple’s Mattress: This mattress has sturdy edges and readily dampens motion. Combined, edge support and motion isolation help couples sleep together soundly.
  • Very Responsive: Our sleep testers had no trouble moving around and settling into a new position on the Luxi One. It’s much more responsive than the average foam bed
  • Sleeps Cool: Thanks to open-cell foam and channels in the middle foam layer, the Luxi One sleeps cooler than most memory foam mattresses

❌ Cons

  • Off-Gassing Odor: The Luxi One emits a mild scent known as off-gassing right after it’s first unboxed. This odor quickly fades away.
  • No White Glove Delivery: Luxi only ships using standard shipping, so you’ll need to set your new mattress up yourself.

Spine Alignment

Healthy spine alignment matters 24/7. During the day, proper alignment is termed posture. At night, it’s simply called spine alignment. We test every mattress for how well it supports a neutral spine. A good score is helpful for anyone, but it’s especially valuable for those who struggle with back and neck pain or stiffness.

To see how well a mattress supports the spine, we have our sleep testers lie on the mattress. We then take a look at their spines. What we want to see is a straight line from the tailbone all the way up to the neck.

Take a look at RJ’s and Asha’s spines in the video—they’re almost perfectly straight! This is great news for anyone who normally wakes up with new aches and pains.

Pressure Relief

When you lie down on a mattress, you want your weight to be evenly distributed. This is the case no matter your sleeping position, but it’s of the greatest importance for side sleepers. You want a mattress that doesn’t put too much pressure on your pressure points—i.e. your shoulders and hips.

To see how well a mattress distributes pressure, we get technical. We bring in our pressure mapping film and have our mattress testers lie on their backs and sides. We then take a look at the computer-generated pressure map, looking out for areas of high pressure. Blues and greens are great and show even weight distribution, while yellows and reds show regions of excess pressure. Reds mark areas of excessive pressure that are likely to result in pain over time.

Take a look at RJ’s and Asha’s pressure maps. Asha has very few high-pressure areas, while RJ has a good amount of excess pressure in his shoulder when lying on his side. What these results tell us is that the Luxi One does a good job at distributing weight for back sleepers and lightweight side sleepers. Side sleepers who weigh more than 130 pounds may experience heightened pressure at their shoulders.

Responsiveness

Most people sleep best on a mattress that quickly adapts to their movements. How well a bed adjusts to movements is known as its responsiveness. A traditional innerspring mattress is quite responsive, while a slow-response memory foam mattress is less so.

To rate a mattress’s responsiveness, we have our mattress experts lie down and change sleeping positions. They rate the mattress on a 1–10 scale based on how easy it was to move and how quickly they settled into their new position.

Our sleep testers gave the Luxi One a combined 8.75/10 for responsiveness. This is a good score for people who toss and turn at night or anyone who dislikes the sinking feel of some memory foam mattresses.

Firmness Level

The Luxi One is a medium-soft mattress. Its feel falls at a 4 on the 1–10 firmness scale, with 1 being the softest mattress and 10 the firmest. Seeing as most people prefer a medium-firm mattress, this bed is best for those who find most mattresses too firm.

Sleeping Position Compatibility

The Luxi One mattress supports all sleeping positions. The shape-molding technology found in the memory foam layer adjusts to support the body in every position. The resulting body alignment works well as a mattress for back sleepers and mattress for stomach sleepers. And thanks to the soft sleeping surface, it is a good side sleeper mattress, especially lightweight side sleepers.

Is It Cooling?

The Luxi One earned an 8/10 in our cooling evaluation. Thanks to open-cell foam and an incredibly breathable memory foam layer, the Luxi mattress is much better at supporting temperature regulation than most all-foam mattresses. However, it’s not the coolest mattress that we’ve tested.

Body Weight Support

The Luxi One is designed for people who weigh less than 230 pounds. At only nine inches, this mattress simply doesn’t offer the level of support needed by bigger bodies.

Compatible Bed Frames

The Luxi One Mattress is compatible with most firm and flat surfaces. This includes a box spring, platform base, slats, adjustable frame, or even the floor.

What is the Luxi One Mattress Made of?

The Luxi One is a three-layer memory foam mattress. Let’s take a look at how each layer influences the overall feel.

  1. LuxiTex Foam Comfort Layer: A soft top layer with a buoyant feel so it’s easy to move around. And open-cell design helps keep you cool.
  2. Support Balancing Technology (SBT) Transition Layer: Patented memory foam technology designed for optimal contouring and spinal support. The grid-like SBT foam design facilitates breathability for a cool night’s sleep.
  3. Sturdy Base Foam: High-density poly foam minimizes sinkage and adds stability.

Luxi One Mattress Unboxing

The Luxi One is a bed-in-a-box-mattress that comes compressed and rolled up in a box. You will simply open the casing, unroll the mattress, and watch it spring to life. It took two of us only two minutes to set up, and it reached its full shape right away. There was a slight odor, but that faded quickly.

Is Luxi One for You?

The Luxi One performed well in the Mattress Advisor lab, earning a 7.75/10 or higher in every test that influences the sleeping experience. We were particularly impressed with how well Luxi’s unique foam technology supported optimal spine alignment. It’s also much cooler and easier to move around on than the average mattress, and its solid edges and all-foam construction make it an excellent mattress for couples.

While there’s lots to love about the Luxi One, it’s not going to be the right mattress for everyone. The one group of people for whom we do not recommend this mattress are heavier people. If you weigh more than 230 pounds, we suggest looking at a hybrid mattress for adequate support and cushion. One of our top picks for plus-size sleepers is the Saatva HD.

The Luxi One Mattress vs Other Memory Foam Mattresses

The Luxi One is the only memory foam mattress with Luxi’s unique grid-like memory foam layer. Known as their Support Balancing Technology (SBT), this layer does an incredible job of supporting healthy body alignment in every sleeping position. It’s this layer that makes the Luxi one of the best soft mattresses for back, stomach, and side sleepers

The Luxi One Mattress vs the Luxi 3-in-1 Adjustable Mattress

While both of these mattresses are all-foam beds that boast Luxi’s proprietary shape molding technology, only the 3-in-1 is an adjustable bed. Unlike the Luxi One which comes in one softness, the 3-in-1 allows you to choose between three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm. This adjustability makes the Luxi 3-in-1 better for folks who aren’t sure what firmness level they prefer.

Another difference between these beds is that the Luxi 3-in-1 allows individual customization on each side of the mattress. With different firmnesses on each side of the bed, couples with different mattress preferences can sleep together—without either person having to sacrifice what they need.

While the Luxi 3-in-1 mattress has perks that the Luxi One doesn’t, the Luxi One is more affordable. If you know that you prefer a medium-soft feel, the Luxi One may be the better choice.
