What We Love About the Mend Adapt Mattress
- The Mend Adapt mattress is 100% designed and manufactured in the United States.
- All foams used in this mattress are CertiPUR-US, so you can rest easier knowing that there are no harmful substances or toxins in your bed.
- Unlike most dual-sided mattresses where you have to completely flip the mattress to try the other side, the Mend Adapt unzips so you can easily flip the top foam layer, zip back up, and enjoy.

⭐Total Score for the Mend Adapt Mattress: 8.4/10⭐
Mend Adapt Performance Highlights
✅ Pros
- Pressure Relief: Scoring a perfect 10/10, the Mend Adapt mattress does a great job of providing pressure relief for all body types and sleeping positions.
- Spine Alignment: Thanks to the support system coils, our tester had a very straight back when lying on their side.
- Motion Transfer: The Mend Adapt’s foam layers do a good job isolating motion so you or your partner can move around without waking each other up.
❌ Cons
- Durability: We noticed some of the foam was already tearing despite our careful handling when flipping the foam to try the other side.
- Responsiveness: Since the foam is very doughy, it was difficult for us to move around, although that shouldn’t be too much of a problem for those who stay in the same position all night.
- Customer Service: Reaching out to the Mend Sleep customer service team can be a challenge since they don’t list a phone number and take a while to respond via email.
Motion Transfer
To test motion transfer, we place a glass of water on the mattress’s surface and drop a weighted ball beside it. When the ball fell, the water moved only slightly, but the glass stayed in place.
We also had one tester lie on their back with their eyes closed while another tester moved around. The tester with their eyes closed didn’t feel their partner’s movements. If you tend to sleep with a significant other or pet, this mattress will help isolate their movement at night so you can get some solid beauty rest.
Pressure Relief
During our testing, we like to use a pressure map to identify any areas where pressure buildup may occur when lying on a mattress. These areas are identified using warmer colors, like reds and yellows. If a mattress has mostly greens and blues, it’s considered one with excellent pressure relief.
On the softer side, the mattress was all blues and greens when our lighter and heavier testers lay on their backs. This was also the case when they changed to their sides.

The firmer foam side also did a great job of providing pressure relief. We saw mostly blues and greens when both our testers lay on their backs and sides. This shows that the Mend Adapt provides great pressure relief for all body types and sleeping positions.

Edge Support
The edge support for this mattress was pretty average, leading us to give it a 7.5/10. When our tester lay on the side, they felt adequate support thanks to the reinforced edges. However, when the tester sat on the edge, there was a lot of sinkage in the mattress. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem for most sleepers, but if you tend to sleep close to the edge, you may want to find a bed with better edge support, like the Saatva Classic, which scored 10/10 in this category.

Where Does It Fall on the Firmness Scale?
As a dual-sided mattress, the Mend Adapt has two firmness options. We tested the soft side first and gave it a 4.5/10 on the firmness scale. This side was very doughy and gave the feeling that you were sleeping in it instead of on it. When we lay down, it immediately swallowed us up into a safe cocoon while giving a slight elevation from the coils.
On the firmer side, we rated it a 5.5/10, which is still considered pretty soft since the industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5. Those who want a slightly firmer option may prefer this side since it’s less doughy.

Does the Mend Adapt Sleep Cool?
The Mend Adapt sleeps somewhat cool, but not nearly as much as other mattresses we have tested. It has a cooling fabric that helps promote airflow but isn’t cool to the touch. The coil system also helps to move body heat away so you can sleep at a neutral temperature.

What Sleeping Position Does It Work For?
The Mend Adapt is a great mattress for most sleeping positions since it offers two firmness options. Side sleepers especially will enjoy the soft, doughy feel that the foam provides. It also does a good job of contouring to the body, something that back sleepers will appreciate, and offers solid support for stomach sleepers.
Some stomach sleepers may find it’s too soft for them, but can request a firmer insert to reach their desired firmness level. It’s also not a very good mattress for combination sleepers since it’s challenging to move around on.

How Much Weight Does the Mend Adapt Mattress Support?
The Mend Adapt performs best when holding a maximum of 400 lbs. According to Mend Sleep, lighter people will likely prefer the softer side and heavier sleepers may prefer the firmer side. If you and your partner weigh more than 400 lbs together, consider one of our best mattresses for heavy people, such as the Saatva HD, which is another hybrid mattress.
What Foundations or Bed Frames Are Compatible?
In order to qualify for the lifetime warranty, it’s important to make sure your mattress is continuously supported by a resting base or foundation that is sufficient to support the collective weight of the mattress and those sleeping on it. Thanks to the base support layer and cover, the Mend Adapt is compatible with any surface. This includes slatted foundations, adjustable bases, box springs, and even the floor. Mend Sleep sells foundations and adjustable bases to use with the Mend Adapt mattress.

Mend Adapt Mattress Materials
The Mend Adapt mattress uses a combination of CertiPUR-US foam and an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified Emana® cover to create a bed that’s safe for you and the environment.

- Zippered Cooling Cover: The removable Emana® cover is removable so you can open the Mend Adapt up and flip the foam to your desired firmness side or take it off for easy washing.
- Flippable Comfort Layer (4”): Beneath the zippered cover is a flippable foam with a cooling gel-infused layer on one side and fast responding support foam on the other.
- Support Layer (1”): This layer provides additional support and pressure relief for your back and lumbar area.
- Quantum Coil System (8”): Individually wrapped coils provide target pressure relief and support, and help promote airflow.
- Base Layer(1”): This layer offers stability to all the other layers so that the mattress can sit on any surface.
- Base Cover: The base cover helps support the entire mattress system and makes it usable on any surface.

What’s Unboxing Like?
Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses, the Mend Adapt mattress comes compressed in a cardboard box. It took us two minutes and 15 seconds to unbox, which is slightly longer than most mattresses, since there wasn’t a good spot to grip onto the box. We definitely recommend getting a buddy to help you set it up. As soon as we cut the plastic cover open, the mattress began to expand on its own and took full shape quickly.

Sleep Trial Period
The Mend Adapt mattress comes with a 180-day, risk-free sleep trial so you can find out if it’s the right fit for you. To get a true feel of the mattress, Mend Sleep recommends trying each side for at least two weeks. If neither firmness option works for you, you can request for a mattress insert. After determining that the mattress still doesn’t meet your needs, you can return it for free.
Mend Adapt Mattress Warranty
Every Mend Adapt mattress bought through the company’s website comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The Mend Adapt mattress warranty covers the following defects:

- Any manufacturing defects in assembly of the mattress cover, springs, or other mattress components.
Mend Sleep Customer Service
We had trouble getting in contact with the Mend Sleep customer service team on their website and were told to leave our email address since they were unavailable. However, the website says that their chat is available 7 days a week, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time. They also don’t have a phone number or contact us section listed on their website, but you can email them at hello@mendsleep.com.
Return Policy
If you decide during your sleep trial that you want to return your Mend Adapt mattress, you can submit a return request. Return requests for opened mattresses can’t be before 30 days after your delivery and must occur during your 180-day trial period. Unopened mattresses can also be returned and refunded after delivery as long as it’s been less than 90 days since they were delivered.
In order to return your mattress, make sure it’s in a good condition and can be donated. Mend Sleep will try to have you arrange to donate it locally or will organize a pickup with a recycling partner. Mend Sleep offers free returns and will refund you once your mattress is donated or picked up.
Is the Mend Adapt Right for You?
With two different firmness options, the Mend Adapt is a top pick for all types of sleeping positions. Since it performed well in our pressure relief test, it would be a great option for those with back pain. We also think those looking for toxin-free materials will appreciate the CertiPUR-US foam used in the bed.
However, since it didn’t score very high for durability, it may not be a great choice for those looking for a long-lasting mattress. It also comes with a slightly higher price tag than some other bed-in-box companies. If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable mattress, consider Mend Sleep’s other hybrid, the Renew mattress.

Q.
Can I get a different firmness insert if the one it comes with doesn’t match my preference?
A.
If you don’t like the firmness options the Mend Adapt mattress comes with, you can request for a firmer or softer insert for a fee of $179. However, since the mattress comes with two firmness options, the odds of you not liking both are a lot lower than a single firmness option mattress.
Q.
How do I tell which side is soft and which one is firm?
A.
The softer side on the Mend Adapt mattress is a blue color and the firmer side is a white color. Turn the foam to the color of your desired firmness level so that it’s the one you lie on.
Q.
Can I cancel an order?
A.
Yes, if your mattress hasn’t been shipped yet, you can cancel your order. Once your box arrives and you open it, you must wait 30 days before initiating a return.
