Set up test

The Nest Bedding Natural Hybrid Latex mattress took us one minute and 40 seconds to set up. The mattress was a bit heavy so you’ll want to recruit some help when setting up. The mattress puffed quickly but not to perfect size.

So for our setup test, the Natural Hybrid Latex gets an 8 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. For a night of undisturbed sleep, you want this to be pretty minimal.

Part A - The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking our sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

Our mattress testers noticed pretty distinctly when their partner was moving around. They gave it a collective score of 7.25.

Part B - The Wine

Next, comes our wine test. This test provides a visual indication of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back and forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

There was a little wiggle in this wine so we gave it a 7.25.

So for a total motion transfer score, we gave the Natural Hybrid Latex a 7.5 out of 10.

Edge Support Test

When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test is divided into two parts.

Part A - The Shoe Test

To start, we asked both sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

While on the mattress, our testers noticed the edge didn’t provide much grab. Our testers felt as if the edge sunk when they sat down. So for the edge shoe test, the Natural Hybrid Latex gets a 6.25.

Part B - The Side Test

Next, we had our sleep subjects lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

After stretching out on side, our testers felt similarly when on the end of the bed. The edge didn’t feel too supportive. It scored a 6.75 for the edge support side test.

So Nest gets a 6.5 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. Let’s dive in deep and take a look at how well the Nest Bedding Natural Hybrid Latex mattress provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

There was no trace of aggravated pressure points on sleep subject one when on the mattress.

There was only a slight bit of yellow in the hips, but still no red!

So for a total pressure relief score, the Natural Hybrid Latex gets a 9 out of 10.

Spine Alignment Test

Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake?  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both of our sleep subject’s backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

These spines looked great!

For spine alignment, the Natural Hybrid Latex gets a 9 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, having superior responsiveness is vital. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.

We had our sleep subjects lie in each sleeping position: side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

This mattress has a pretty good response rate!

It scored a 8.5 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What The Natural Hybrid Latex customers have to say

  • “We replaced a traditional queen mattress and box spring combo with this mattress in king size on a platform bed. Our old mattress was about 7 years old. We first ordered the medium latex hybrid and found it was a bit too soft for us after about 90 days of use. Nest Bedding’s customer service was great and allowed us to swap the medium latex layers for firm layers, and now we couldn’t be happier. Note that you can also order a “split” layer of latex with 1 firm and 1 medium if you and your partner have different firmness preferences. I am 6′ , 175 lbs and active but still used to wake up with severe lower back pain every morning from my other mattresses. I am a side and stomach sleeper. This is the first mattress where I never wake up with any pain. We have been using it since October 2017; the firm layers since approx Feb. 2018. Can’t recommend this bed enough!” – Graham
  • “We’ve had our new mattress for about a month in a half, we like it very much but I won’t say that it’s perfect. Thus 4 out of 5 stars. Sadly neither of us has come up with exactly how to articulate what we would change. However, we are both sleeping better than we were on our old mattress and generally fall asleep quickly and sleep through the night. I will say that the mattress is tall, we will have to lower our platform in the future. The thickness isn’t a negative, just good to know if you are putting it on anything tall” – Don
  • “The hybrid latex bed is very comfortable. The organic cotton cover with wool just feels wonderful. The bed is soft, supportive, and sleeps cool. It is bouncier then I would prefer. The latex feels great. I would probably go with the q3 all latex bed next time as that has to be the ultimate bed.” – Dan
