Take a deeper look into our review of the Puffy Lux mattress, including our methodology, scoring and mattress performance to help you determine if this could be the mattress for you.
The Puffy Lux took us only one minute and fifteen seconds (1:15) too set up. It was light, easy to maneuver, had little odor, and puffed to life instantly!
So for ease of setup, the Puffy Lux gets a perfect score of 10 out of 10.
Motion transfer sounds like a fancy word, but it’s just a way to describe how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. During the night you’ll want this to be pretty minimal.
The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test.
We begin by asking our sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from 1 to 10 how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.
The Puffy Lux did a very good job isolating motion. Our testers gave it a collective score of 8.5.
Next, we break out the wine! The wine test is a great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.
We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back and forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of it moved.
That wine was pretty darn still for being on a mattress. We gave it an 8.
So for a total motion transfer score, we give the Puffy Lux an 8.25 out of 10.
When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely be aware of the support the edge offers.
The Mattress Advisor edge support test is broken into two parts.
To begin, we asked our mattress testers to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”
Both sleep subjects noticed the edge of the Puffy Lux supported their body weight while on the edge of the bed. So this mattress scored an 8.5 for the edge shoe test.
Next, we had each sleep subject lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.
When our testers stretched out to lay the edge, they once again felt like the edge of the mattress did a good job ‘catching’ and cradling their body so they stayed safe on the edge. So for the edge support side test, the Puffy Lux once again scored an 8.5.
So Puffy gets a total score of 8.5 out of 10 for edge support.
When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to look for something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. Let’s examine how well the Puffy Lux provides pressure relief.
We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.
The Puffy Lux excelled at cradling pressure points. There was no trace of red on our sleep subjects’ pressure mapping results.
The Puffy Lux crushed the pressure relief test, scoring a 9.5 out of 10!
Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake? For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.
We took a close up of both of our sleep subject’s backs to see the alignment. Ideally, you’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.
The Puffy Lux did a great job of keeping those spines in alignment. They were nearly straight!
For spine alignment, the Puffy Lux gets a 9 out of 10.
When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.
We had our sleep subjects lie in each sleeping position: side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.
According to our mattress testers, the Puffy Lux hugs you in all the right places! In fact, one of our testers said, “It feels like I am sleeping on a cloud,” and he had no idea that was Puffy’s motto.
So the Puffy Lux scored a 9.25 out of 10 for responsiveness.
We just received our king size Puffy Lux and were privileged to our first night of sleep. It was a thing of beauty. We woke up rested and every part of me felt 20 years younger. We love our Puffy and at 7:30am are counting the hours until bedtime. The Puffy is life changing and a little cloud of awesomeness is a chaotic and busy world. We’ve been enjoying our Puffy pillows for about a week as they were delivered before our bed. We can’t wait to get our Puffy mattress topper! Matt & Valerie
We have slept more sound and more comfortable than anticipated with our new Puffy mattress. I was on the fence whether to go with this type of mattress but it’s exceeded my expectation. I suffer from back pain. Waking up in the morning is an overall soothing experience. The softness takes a little getting used to but it’s not affecting my back in a negative way. We are very satisfied! Courtney
Love my Puffy mattress. I went from a soft-sided waterbed to a puffy mattress.. I’ve slept on waterbeds for 30 years.. it was the only “mattress” that didn’t hurt my back……. puffy feels just like my soft sided water bed, however without the “movement”… try it.. you won’t go back to your old mattress.. even my fur babies love their puffy mattress Vik
