Take a look at our full Puffy mattress review and see how it performed in our testing to help you determine if this could be the mattress for you.
It took us exactly one minute and 16 seconds (1:16) to unbox the Puffy mattress. This mattress was very light and easy to maneuver. As soon as we opened the packaging, the Puffy took its full shape immediately. It had a mild scent once opened, but this went away within an hour.
So for our setup test, the Puffy gets an awesome score of 9.5 out of 10.
Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. You want this to be pretty minimal.
The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking both sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from one to ten how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.
Turns out, the Puffy does an excellent job at absorbing motion. Our sleep subjects noticed they could hardly feel the movements of their sleep partner while on the mattress. In fact, they didn’t even feel them get up to leave. So for the first part of our motion transfer test, the Puffy gets a 9.
Next, comes our wine test. We know this test sounds cliche, but it’s a great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.
We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back a forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.
The wine glass barely moved at all when on the Puffy. The liquid inside was still too. So for the second half of our test, the Puffy gets a 9.25.
So for a total motion transfer score, the Puffy scored a 9.25 out of 10.
When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.
The Mattress Advisor edge support test is a two-part test.
To start, we asked our sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”
According to our testers, support on the end of the Puffy mattress was very good. The edge of the mattress actually gripped them as they sat down. So for the shoe test, the Puffy gets an 8.5.
Next, we had our sleep subjects lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.
Once again, they felt the edge of the Puffy mattress cradled and gripped their body as they approached the edge, even more so when they were laying down than sitting. So for the second part of our edge support test, the Puffy scored a 9.
So the Puffy scores a grand total of 8.75 for edge support.
When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. This is especially important for athletes when it comes to joint pain. Let’s take a look at how well the Puffy mattress provides pressure relief for its sleepers.
We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.
When our testers were on the Puffy we saw some red in their shoulders as they laid on their side. However, their backs were free from high pressure.
So for a total pressure relief score, the Puffy gets an 8 out of 10.
Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake? For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.
We took a close up of both of our sleep subjects backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.
The Puffy did a good job of keeping those spines in neutral alignment. There was only a slight curve as the spine approached the base of the neck.
For spine alignment, the Puffy gets an 8.75 out of 10.
When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.
We had our mattress testers lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.
The Puffy mattress really knows how to listen and respond to its sleepers.
It scored a 9 out of 10 for responsiveness.
Was nervous about buying a matress without testing it out first. But glad I decided to give it a shot. It’s so much more comfortable than my spring matress. Felt weird at first because has a different feel than spring matress. But I sleep better and it’s just comfy. I’m a fluffy guy and I don’t over heat with it. Breaths pretty good I think.” Michael M.
I love this bed. I have a couple blown discs and sciatica so sleeping was always uncomfortable, no matter the position. Now I sleep and rarely move – I wake up with pillow creases in my face – so I know I’m not rolling around like I used to!! LOL I’d recommend this bed to anyone who suffers from hip or back pain – for sure. Love my Puffy!” Eileen M.
Overall the mattress is an excellent mattress. Very comfortable. Setup was a breeze. Degassing of minimal odor was completed in 3 days. Would recommend the mattress to anyone looking for a reasonably priced mattress that offers excellent comfort.” Andrew D.
