Is the Purple Plus a Good Mattress?

✅ Pros

  • Firmness Level: Its medium firmness, 5/10 on the firmness scale, means the Purple Plus accommodates many sleeping positions: back sleepers will get the spine support they need, and combination sleepers will enjoy all of its benefits. Side sleepers should get as much support on their shoulders and hips as they need.
  • Cooling: Thanks to its GelFlex Grid-based comfort layer, the Purple Plus excels at cooling, making it a choice for hot sleepers, those who live in warmer climates, or both.
  • Motion Transfer: The ability to isolate motion is an important quality for a mattress used by couples, and the Purple Plus performs quite well in this category. If you’re looking for a mattress to share with your partner, then the Purple Plus will help make sure you don’t feel every single one of their movements during the night.

❌ Cons:

  • Price: The Purple Plus is on the pricier side, with a queen-sized mattress costing $1,899, making it a less than ideal choice for shoppers on a tight budget.
  • Edge Support: If you’re someone who uses the edge of the bed a lot, whether it’s while sleeping or sitting on it to get ready in the morning, then you’ll need a mattress with great edge support. If you want great edge support, the Purple Plus isn’t for you.

Where Does It Fall on the Firmness Scale?

The Purple Plus falls at a 5/10 on the firmness scale. Medium firmness makes it a good choice for side sleepers, and probably some back sleepers. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, typically need something firmer than medium.

Purple Plus Firmness Scale

Does the Purple Plus Sleep Cool?

Thanks to the GelFlex Grid in its comfort layer, which features 1,400+ channels that air passes through, the Purple Plus should keep you cool all night. This is a huge plus for anyone who usually sleeps hot.

What Sleeping Positions Does It Work For?

The Purple Plus’s 5/10 firmness allows most sleeping positions to sleep comfortably, although a 5/10 is not as universally accommodating as a 6 or 6.5/10. Note that stomach sleepers may find the Purple Plus to be a bit soft and may experience a strain in their neck as a result.

How Much Weight Does the  Mattress Support?

Purple doesn’t establish a set weight limit for the Purple Plus, but does recommend a total of 600 lbs or less, or around 300 lbs per side if you’re sleeping with a partner.

What Foundations or Bed Frames Are Compatible?

The Purple Plus is most compatible with solid bed frames (wood, metal, etc.), and even works with adjustable frames as well. In general, the Purple Plus is designed to work best with most slatted, adjustable, and firm platforms or frames.

Purple Plus Mattress Materials

The Purple Plus has four layers, made up of a mix of polyurethane foam, Purple’s very own GelFlex Grid, and a soft mattress cover that keeps it all under wraps.

  1. SoftFlex Cover: A knit cover designed to reflect and emphasize the responsiveness of the GelFlex Grid in the comfort layer.
  2. 2” Purple GelFlex Grid: A layer of Purple’s signature GelFlex Grid, which supports pressure points and helps keep the rest of your body aligned.
  3. Comfort Foam: A layer of soft and dense foam that brings responsiveness and cushioning to the mattress.
  4. Support Foam: A bottom layer of medium-firm, dense polyfoam that ties the whole mattress together and holds everything in place.

What’s Unboxing Like?

The Purple Plus is quite heavy, so we recommend having another person help you carry it to your bedroom. From there, simply remove it from the shipping packaging, and let it roll out and expand to its full size before sleeping on it. There is an off-gassing scent that should go away quickly if the room is well ventilated.

Shipping and Delivery

The Purple Plus is a bed-in-a-box mattress that comes compressed and rolled into a tube. Purple mattresses are usually delivered within 2-9 business days.

Sleep Trial Period

Purple’s sleep trial period lasts for 100 nights, which is the industry standard. This gives you a little over three months to test it out and see whether you made the right call.

Purple does ask that you wait at least 21 days into the sleep trial period before initiating a refund or return, since it takes time to break in a new mattress and for your body to get used to it.

Purple Plus Customer Service

To contact Purple customer service, use the live chat function on their website https://purple.com/, call (888) 848-0248, or email info@purple.com.

Purple Plus Mattress Warranty

Purple offers a 10-year limited warranty on their mattresses. Note that the warranty is valid only if you purchase and use the mattress yourself, not if you buy the Purple Plus from a reseller or other third party. The Purple warranty does cover repair or replacement for defects due to faulty workmanship or materials.

Return Policy

If you wish to return your Purple Plus mattress, simply contact Purple customer support to confirm your eligibility and set up the return. To be eligible for a return, it must be at least 21 days into the trial period; free returns are only available during the trial period.

Is the Purple Plus Right for You?

If you’re a hot sleeper, then the Purple Plus is a great choice. Purple’s signature GelFlex Grid features 1,400+ channels that let air pass through and circulate for optimal body temperature regulation, while also providing the comfort and cushioning feel of a foam mattress. Its medium firmness also allows sleepers of any position to get the support and comfort that they need, while simultaneously providing pressure relief that is as good as, if not better, than many other foam mattresses on the market.

If, however, you are someone who needs great edge support and a traditional innerspring mattress, then the Purple Plus won’t be the best option out there. If you’re looking for a longer sleep trial and longer warranty, you can also check out the Nolah Original 10”.
