One of the biggest complaints that we hear about all-foam mattresses is that they can make you feel stuck. Latex foam offers the same pressure-relieving benefits as memory foam but with a more responsive feel.
To see how easy it is to move around and get comfy on a mattress—a feature known as responsiveness—we have our sleep testers lie on the mattress, switch positions, and see how quickly the bed adapts to their movements. Both of our sleep testers found it easy to move around and get comfy on the Stratami, earning it an 8.75/10 for responsiveness.
Are you a light sleeper who shares your mattress with a partner, child, or furry family member? If so, you may sleep better on a mattress that successfully dampens motion.
To test the motion isolation abilities of mattresses, we conduct two tests. In the first, we fill a wine glass full of red wine, set it on one side of the bed, and have one of our testers toss and turn on the other side. What we want to see is very little movement of the glass and the wine within.
During the wine test, the wine stayed fairly still but we did detect more wobble in the glass than we’d like, so we gave it a 7/10.
Our second test is more of a real-life scenario (unless you’re a daring wine enthusiast). In this test, our testers lie side by side and take turns changing from one position to the next. The other partner rates how well the bed does at limiting motion transfer. In this test, our testers RJ and Asha both noticed when their partners were moving, but it wasn’t extreme. They gave the Stratami a collective score of 7.75/10.
When taken together, these two tests earned the Stratami a 7.4/10 for motion transfer. While this is an okay score if you’re a sound sleeper, you may want a bed that performs better if you find yourself waking up often at night.
Good posture doesn’t stop when you lie down to go to bed. The trouble is, it’s no longer in your control—it’s up to your mattress to deliver the lumbar support you need for a healthy back.
To evaluate a mattress’s ability to keep the spine properly aligned, we have both of our sleep testers lie on their sides. We then take a picture and examine the spine. What we want to see is a completely straight line from the base to the top of the spine.
Take a look at the photo of RJ on the Stratami. As you can see, his back was well supported with just a slight bend towards the neck. The lumbar support demonstrated here earned the Stratami an 8.5/10 for spine alignment.
The Stratami mattress supports every sleeping position thanks to its medium-firm feel and zoned latex support layer. Softer foam along the shoulders provides the cushioning side sleepers need while balanced contouring and support works well for both stomach sleepers and back sleepers.
The Stratami is even good for those of us combination sleepers who sleep in an array of positions thanks to its responsive feel and universal support.
Latex mattresses are known for sleeping cool, and the Stratami is no exception. The organic cotton cover is naturally breathable, and the latex too supports optimal temperature regulation.
The Stratami doesn’t have a set weight limit. Because it’s made from organic dunlop latex, it should work for most body types. Latex is the most durable mattress material apart from steel coils. Dunlop in particular supports heavy people better because it tends to be firmer.
Essentia mattresses work best on a flat, rigid surface that allows airflow. However, they will work on any firm, flat surface. This includes flat frames, slats that are no more than three inches apart, or adjustable bases. Do not place your Stratami mattress on a box spring as it will not provide the level of stable support the mattress needs, potentially voiding the warranty.
The Stratami is made from primarily organic, natural materials. Here’s a breakdown of what’s inside this eco-friendly, non-toxic mattress.

The Stratami mattress by Essentia took us just under two minutes to set up. Essentia was a little heavy on the staples, making the box difficult to open. The mattress was very floppy and hard to maneuver.

The Stratami mattress is a luxury organic mattress made from natural materials. With a cotton cover and two layers of natural latex, you can trust that it’s safe for your health. And with zero cotton or wool batting, there are few other mattresses around that are as good for people with allergies.
When we tested the Stratami in our mattress lab, we were impressed by how well it performed. It earned an 8/10 or higher in our tests for spine alignment, pressure relief, cooling, responsiveness, edge support, and durability. These results lead us to recommend the Stratami for hot sleepers and people with aches and pains.
Because this mattress is made using durable materials, it works well for people of every body size. And with zoned support latex foam, it cushions and supports the body in a way that works for every sleeping position.
While the Stratami is an excellent high-end bed, there are people for whom it isn’t the best mattress. To start, it comes with a hefty price tag, even when compared to other organic mattresses. For a more budget-friendly natural mattress, check out our Birch mattress review.
Additionally, most people have experience sleeping on innerspring, memory foam, or hybrid mattress types. Latex mattresses have a completely different feel that’s at once responsive, cool, contouring, and supportive. However, if you like the hugging memory foam feel, you’d be better suited by the Nectar Lush mattress. And for people who like the springy innerspring mattress feel, check out the Saatva mattress.
The Stratami is one of the best organic mattresses for people with allergies. Not only are the materials within hypoallergenic, but Essentia avoids wool and cotton batting to reduce dust mite accumulation and future allergies.

Another thing that sets the Stratami apart is that every layer is made from all-natural organic latex foam. Most organic mattresses have other layers, such as innerspring coils or wool padding. The result is an ultra-supportive mattress that’s more expensive than the average organic mattress.
Essentia is a high-end mattress brand that crafts natural and organic mattresses. They have four mattress collections: Lifestyle, Performance, Wholebody, and the ProCor custom mattress.
The Stratami is one of the Lifestyle mattresses, which include three entry-level Essentia beds. These mattresses are all organic and hypoallergenic, but only the Stratami is a latex-only mattress. The Tatami includes natural memory foam and latex and the Tatami Hybrid natural memory foam, latex, innerspring coils, and cotton padding.
Performance mattresses are the next step up in quality, features, and price point. These mattresses too are made from a variety or organic materials that are safe for allergy sufferers, but they boast a cooler sleeping experience and enhanced posture support.
The Wholebody mattress line has everything that the Lifestyle and Performance beds have plus superior cooling properties and patented molding technology to encourage an even deeper night’s sleep.
Finally, the ProCor is a customizable mattress designed for athletes. This bed is one of the most luxurious mattresses that you’ll find anywhere.
Natural latex is derived from rubber tree sap.
It’s a good idea to use a waterproof protector to safeguard your investment. The only downside is that some mattress protectors may lead to greater heat retention.
Yes! Essentia even carries a natural memory foam mattress topper, the DormIQ Topper, for an eco-friendly and non-toxic option for extra cushion.
