The Allswell Mattress Highlights

  • The Allswell is a medium-firm hybrid mattress made with memory foam and pocket coils offered at a disruptive price point without compromising on quality.
    • Side sleepers will generally prefer the softer option (the Luxe Hybrid) – it has a little more give to support the curves of your body.
    • Back sleepers can find comfort in either model (lucky for you!).
    • Stomach sleepers will tend to be more comfortable on the firmer mattress (The Allswell). Firm mattresses can tend to cause back pain among stomach sleepers.
    • If you use your bed to watch TV, read, or find yourself sitting up in bed, you might find more comfort in the firmer option.
  • With Allswell, you can complete your entire bedding look with curated bedding accessories inspired by well-known interior designers. The products needed to recreate each style will be added to your cart with the click of a button. Learn more here.

Score Breakdown

Set-up Test

It took us exactly a minute and a half to unbox the Allswell mattress. This mattress wasn’t too heavy but it did not take its full shape instantly. It had a mild odor when it was first opened but it went away quickly. A queen size mattress weighs approximately 85 lbs, which is pretty light. But still, mattresses are awkward to carry, so you might want to recruit some help to get this thing set up.

So for our setup test, the Allswell gets an 8 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is just a fancy way of saying how much movement you feel if your partner is moving around. You want this to be pretty minimal.

Part A – The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking both sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from one to ten how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

While our sleep subjects were testing motion transfer on the Allswell, they noticed they didn’t feel their partner’s movements too much. So for the first part of our motion transfer test, they gave the Allswell an 8.75.

Part B – The Wine Test

Next, comes our wine test. This is a great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back a forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

That wine was practically still while on the Allswell, so we give it a 9.25.

So for a total motion transfer score, the Allswell gets a 9 out of 10.

Edge Support Test

When choosing a mattress, you may not think to consider how much support the edge provides. But if you find yourself sleeping on the edge of your bed or use the end to get ready in the morning, you should definitely consider the edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test is a two-part test.

Part A – The Shoe Test

To start, we asked our sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

Support on the end of the Allswell mattress was average. The edge easily dipped when sat on. So for the shoe test, the Allswell gets a 7.5.

Part B – The Side Test

Next, we had our sleep subjects lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

They found the edge of the Allswell felt more supportive when lying instead of sitting. So for the edge support side test, this mattress scored an 8.

So the Allswell gets a total score of 7.75 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. This is especially important for athletes when it comes to joint pain. Let’s take a look at how well the Allswell mattress provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

We were pleasantly surprised the pressure relief test results of the Allswell mattress! There was very minimal red located in the joints of our sleep subjects. However, there was a fair amount of yellow.

So for a total pressure relief score, the Allswell gets an 8.25 out of 10.

Spine Alignment Test

Did you know your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake?  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both of our sleep subjects backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

The spines of our sleep subjects were in decent alignment while on this bed. There is a slight dip in the hips which can increase the chances of a pinch in the lower-lumbar spine.

For spine alignment, the Allswell gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

When it comes to getting comfortable on your mattress, responsiveness becomes very important. Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep.

We had our mattress testers lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

The Allswell is a mattress was a little on the stiff side, according to our sleep subjects. They didn’t feel the Allswell contoured as well as they would have liked with they adjusted sleeping positions.

It scored a 7.5 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What Makes Allswell Different

Unbeatable Prices

Allswell Home, launched by Walmart, entered the bed-in-a-box industry offering mattresses at a disruptive price point. A queen Allswell mattress costs only $345, which is a third of the price of other leading brands. For those looking for a quality mattress that doesn’t break the bank, look no further.

A One-Stop-Shop for a Bedroom Makeover

Allswell gives its customers the opportunity to find not only a quality mattress for less but also allows them to outfit their entire bedroom. From Modern Glam to Globally Inspired curated bedding collections, Allswell is a one-stop shop when it comes to giving your sleep space a facelift.

Minimal Motion Transfer

If you sleep with a partner, you’ll definitely want a mattress that absorbs motion well. If your bed partner moves, you don’t want to feel it. That’s where motion transfer comes in. The better your mattress absorbs the movement of your partner, the better you sleep. The Allswell mattress scored a 9 out of 10 for motion, meaning if you want uninterrupted sleep, this mattress is a good option for couples.

What to Watch Out For

  • The Allswell is a decent mattress for the price it is offered at, but beware it’s hard to tell how long a mattress at this price point will last.
  • The firmness of the Allswell mattress is listed as a 4.5 – 6.5 out of 10 on the Allswell website; however, we believe this mattress to be more like a 7 to 7.5 on the firmness scale.
  • There may be a slight odor after you unbox your Allswell mattress. This is normal and should go away within a few hours.
  • Your mattress may also need time to take its full shape. You should see an inflated mattress pretty quickly but it’s possible it could take up to 48 hours to reach peak height.
