One of the most affordable mattress brands we’ve ever reviewed is back with a new mattress model, the Tuft & Needle Hybrid—their most supportive mattress yet. Want to know how this mattress measures up in our lab testing? It’s all in this comprehensive review. We’ll go over the mattress and brand highlights, test scores, and all other purchase information you need to know.
Tuft & Needle is known for offering some of the most affordable foam mattresses on the market, and now they’ve released a new hybrid design. Combining their Adaptive foam with a supportive core pocket spring layer, this mattress offers balanced comfort for a good night’s sleep.
The Tuft & Needle Hybrid mattress is their new model that works for all types of sleepers. It has medium firmness with a luxurious pillow top cover for softness and bouncy pocketed coils for firm support. Let’s check out some other highlights of the T&N Hybrid.
The foam/spring combo material in the Tuft & Needle Hybrid offers superior pressure relief in your hips and shoulders, a great feature for side sleepers. And when we say superior, we’re not kidding—it scored a 9.5 out of 10 in our test. Than means nearly no pressure was applied to the hips, back, and shoulders.
Check out our pressure map below. The green and blue means minimal pressure!
While lying down to rest, you want your spine to be straight as possible to prevent back pain and soreness in the morning. The Tuft & Needle Hybrid did just that. The pillow top cover allowed the shoulders and hips to gently sink into the mattress, but not enough to mess up the straight line that goes from the base of the spine to the top of the neck.
Combination sleepers love to move around at night to settle into their new position. They need a mattress that isn’t too firm that they can’t get comfortably, but that also isn’t too soft where they feel like they can’t move because they are stuck.
The pocketed coil springs in the Tuft & Needle Hybrid offer a bouncy responsiveness that doesn’t squeak. The mattress allows you to move comfortably and doesn’t disrupt your sleep as you do.
Be aware that your Tuft & Needle Hybrid mattress may have a mild scent when you unbox it—this is normal and should go away within a few hours.
Check out how the Tuft & Needle did on each test and evaluation we conducted in the mattress lab. Every score is out of 10 and is weighted differently based on performance and functionality. Read more about our review process here, including how we test and how we score.

The Tuft & Needle Hybrid is compatible with most frames, foundations, and bases. Platform frames, slatted frames, box springs, bunkie boards, and adjustable frames will work well with the T&N Hybrid. They emphasize even support and breathability, so the best options for the Hybrid specifically are slatted or platform frames (the spacing between slats or bars should be no more than 5″), box springs or box foundations, and adjustable beds (especially ones with footboards).
The Tuft & Needle Hybrid is made up of 6 quality layers that lead to a supportive and cool night’s sleep.
These layers include:
Not only do they raise money for over 400 schools as a part of their School Fundraising Program, but when Tuft & Needle mattresses are returned, they are donated to charities in need. Since 2014, they’ve donated over 9 million dollars in mattresses back to their community.
Their employees are also known to contribute to their communities via volunteering. Collectively, they have spent over 1,500 hours providing meals, building housing, as well as cleaning and setting up bedding to those who need it.
