Set up test

The Tulo LIV mattress took us just over one minute to set up. This mattress was very light and easy to maneuver. It had handles and only a faint smell.

So for our setup test, the Tulo LIV gets a 9 out of 10.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer may sound like a fancy mattress term, but it’s really just the amount of movement you feel if you’re sleeping partner gets up or changes positions in the middle of the night.

Part A - The Humans

The Mattress Advisor motion transfer test is a two-part test. We start by asking our sleep subjects to lie on the bed, blindfolded, and rate on a scale from 1 to 10 how much movement they felt when their partner was moving around with 10 being no movement at all.

The Tulo LIV struggled a bit to keep motion transfer to a minimum. Our mattress testers noticed they could feel one another moving around, so they gave it a collective score of 7.25 for this test.

Part B - The Wine

Next, comes our wine test. This is great visual indicator of how much motion is being transferred from one side of the bed to another.

We had one of our sleep subjects lie down and roll back and forth a few times. We then took a look at how much the wine inside of the glass moved.

This glass of wine faired pretty well on the Tulo LIV; however, there was a slight lean in the glass. So we gave it an 8 for our wine test.

So for a total motion transfer score, the Tulo LIV gets an 7.6 out of 10.

Edge Support Test

If you tend to sleep on the edge of your mattress but don’t want to roll off, or if you sit on the end of the bed to get ready in the morning and don’t want to lose balance, then you care about edge support.

The Mattress Advisor edge support test is a two-part test.

Part A - The Shoe Test

To start, we asked both sleep subjects to sit on the edge of the bed to tie their shoes. They rated this task on a scale from one to ten, with 10 being “extremely easy, with exceptional edge support.”

The edge of the Tulo LIV provided decent support! Our testers gave it a score of 8.25 for our edge shoe test.

Part B - The Side Test

Next, we had our mattress testers lie on the edge of the bed in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back, to see if they could sleep comfortably in that section of the bed.

Once again, this edge proved to be safe and secure. It scored a 9 for the edge support test.

So Tulo LIV gets a total score of 8.6 out of 10 for edge support.

Pressure Relief Test

When shopping for a mattress, you’ll want to find something that puts minimal pressure on your hips, thighs and shoulders. Let’s take a look at how well the Tulo LIV provides pressure relief.

We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping film that shows areas of high pressure. Here’s what you need to know: the cool spots are good and the warms spots are bad. The warmer the color, the more pressure is being placed on that area of the body.

We saw a lot of red colors while sleep subject one was on the Tulo LIV. This indicates a decent amount was put on his body.

Sleep subject did not have as much red on her pressure mapping results. However, there is still some red in her shoulder.

So for a total pressure relief score, the Tulo LIV gets a 7 out of 10.

Spine Alignment Test

What’s a good way to tell if a mattress is good for your back? Take a look at how it keeps that spine in a straight line.

Your sleeping posture is just as important as your posture when you are awake.  For every mattress we test, we take a look at how well it keeps your spine in a straight line.

We took a close up of both of our sleep subject backs to see the alignment. You’ll want to see a straight line from the neck all the way to the tailbone.

The Tulo LIV kept these spines mostly straight, but there is a bit of a curve leading to the base of their neck.

So for spine alignment, it scores an 8.5 out of 10.

Responsiveness Test

Responsiveness is just a fancy way of saying how well the mattress adjusts or responds to your sleeping positions while you sleep. This becomes important when considering how quickly and easily you get comfortable when moving around.

We had our sleep subjects lie in each sleeping position, side, stomach and back. As they changed positions and got settled in, we asked them to rate on a scale from one to ten how quickly and easily the mattress responded to their movement.

The Tulo LIV did a pretty good job responding to our mattress testers’ movements as they adjusted their sleeping positions.

They scored it an 8.5 out of 10 for responsiveness.

What Tulo LIV customers have to say

tulo liv - guy in front of bed

  • “[The Tulo LIV] arrived as expected and was pretty easy to set up on our wooden slat bed frame. We did not need a box spring. The bed does need about a day for “offgassing” or the smell to go away. Other than that, it wasn’t a problem at all. My husband and I have no problems waking each other up if either one of us has to get up out of bed. It doesn’t feel like it gets too hot either. We both agree it’s the best purchase we’ve made in a while! I’m also very pregnant and this bed is very comfortable for me so that’s an extra plus!” – Verified Customer
  • “I have had my Tulo now for 2 weeks so it’s still pretty new. I will say I am falling asleep faster than I was on my old mattress and my back pain has disappeared! I feel supported on this mattress and I do not plan on returning it.”
  • “We’ve been on the Tulo LIV for about two weeks now and have had great nights sleep since day 1. Coming from a more traditional springy mattress I was skeptical at first, but the medium firmness of the foam really suits my wife and I as we are generally side sleepers. We recommend it.”
  • “I am pleasantly surprised with this Liv mattress! As someone who suffers from back and neck pain, I can say that this medium firm mattress is ideal for me. I usually sleep on my back, with some tendency to sleep on my side and this new Tulo mattress supports both my sleep habits!”
