You should remove the mattress from the box ASAP, but you can wait up to a week if you need to for any reason.

Zinus Green Tea Mattress Review Highlights

We brought the Zinus Green Tea mattress into our sleep lab, and gave it a total score of 7.8/10. This number may not seem impressive at face value, but don’t let the overall score deter you—it performs well in most of the categories important to sleepers, such as pressure relief, motion transfer, and responsiveness. In this review, we’ll get into the specifics of how the Zinus Green Tea mattress feels and whether or not it’s the right choice for you.
Key features:
- Zinus really prioritizes comfort at an affordable price. A queen size won’t set you back more than $450.
- You can choose between four different thickness levels (six inches, eight inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches). The six inch is the most firm mattress of the bunch, and the 12 inch model is the softest.
- Zinus adds ActivCharcoal and green tea extract to the foam layers, which absorb moisture and neutralize odors from sweat and regular use.

Testing Takeaways
✅ Pros
- The Zinus Green Tea mattress earned a near perfect score for motion transfer. If you plan to sleep with a partner, chances are you won’t feel them getting up or moving around.
- The comfort foam used in the Zinus Green Tea relieves pressure around curvier parts of your body, which can ease or even prevent shoulder and hip pain.
- The contouring top layers evenly distribute your body weight from head to toe. We call this spinal alignment, and it’s key to keeping your back and neck healthy.
- The surface of the Green Tea mattress pops back to its original shape when you change position. Responsiveness is an important feature for staying comfortable if you move around a lot at night.
❌ Cons
- Mattresses with lower price points (under $500) aren’t as durable over time, so this mattress will have a shorter lifespan.
- All-foam mattresses tend to have a temporary off-gassing scent, which should air out within a few hours.
Motion Transfer
Our motion transfer score basically tells you how well a mattress prevents movement on one side of the bed from disrupting the other side. It’s really important if you’re a light sleeper who shares the bed with a partner or pet.
The good news is that the Zinus Green Tea mattress earned a super high score for motion transfer. How do we know? First, we put a full glass of wine on the mattress and rolled around next to it. It was a risky move, but fortunately the wine and glass stayed pretty still.
Next, we traded the wine for another person. Our testers felt hardly any movement when the other person got up or changed position, so we gave the Zinus Green Tea a 9/10 score for motion transfer.

Edge Support
Edge support is mostly important for those who plan to use the sides of the bed quite a bit. We test the sinkage on the edges of the mattress first by asking our testers to tie their shoes while sitting on the edge of the bed. Next, we ask them to lie in different positions right near the edge of the bed.
The overall consensus was that they didn’t feel at risk of falling off the bed, but they also didn’t feel comfortable on the edge, thus the 6/10 score for edge support.

Pressure Relief
Most sleepers like at least a little pressure relief, and the Zinus Green Tea delivers a fair amount. We gave it an 8/10 score for pressure relief. Two points were deducted because we noticed some high pressure near our testers’ shoulders.
Below, you can see how a pressure mapping film highlights areas of high and low pressure. High pressure areas are warm (i.e. red and yellow), and low pressure areas are cool (i.e. green and blue).

How Is the Feel?
The Zinus Green Tea mattress is medium to medium-soft (4–5/10 on the firmness scale), depending on how much you weigh. In general, memory foam beds feel a little firmer to those with a lighter body weight, and softer to those with heavier body types.

Which Sleeping Position Does It Best Support?
Side sleepers will likely be the best fit for the Zinus Green Tea mattress, since it provides both pressure relief and spine alignment. Back sleepers and combination sleepers should fare well, too; however, it’s not a great choice for stomach sleepers, since the softness may cause the lower back to arch out of a neutral alignment and lead to back pain.

Sleep Temperature
The Zinus Green Tea mattress will probably feel warm to the average sleeper. Memory foam tends to trap heat, and the only feature in the Green Tea mattress that helps to regulate temperature is the convoluted (wavy) base layer that improves airflow. For a more cooling mattress, consider the SleepOvation 700 Tiny Mattresses In One, which uses special air chambers to promote breathability.

Weight Limits
Zinus mattresses can hold up to 350 lbs on a twin or twin XL and up to 700 lbs on a full to cal king size mattress.
What Should You Lay Your Mattress on?
You can store your mattress on pretty much any flat, supportive surface. Zinus specifically recommends box springs, platform bed frames, slatted bases, bunkie boards, and adjustable bed frames.

Construction
The Zinus Green Tea mattress comes in six inch, eight inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch profiles, and is made of three layers of CertiPUR-US certified memory foam and polyfoam. The thickness of each layer depends on the mattress height.

- Mattress Cover: A thin, breathable polyester fabric with a jacquard weave
- Comfort Layer: 1”–3” of memory foam contour to the shape of your body and cushion pressure points
- Second Layer: 1”–2” of comfort foam that evenly distributes your body weight
- Base Foam: 4”–7” of high-density base support foam that reinforces the entire mattress structure

Unboxing Experience
Unboxing the Zinus Green Tea mattress took us about a minute and a half. It was very lightweight and easy to transport. However, once opened, it was flat as a pancake, and took about 24 hours to reach 90% of its full size. Zinus even acknowledged it may take seven days to reach its full shape. You might notice a mild off-gassing odor after unboxing the mattress, but this is normal, and it should be gone within a couple of hours.

All Zinus customers get a 100-night sleep trial, which enables you to get the feel of your new bed in the comfort of your own home—much better than in a big box store under fluorescent lighting! One hundred nights is a standard mattress trial period. This is your opportunity to test out features like pressure relief, firmness level, and temperature to determine whether or not it’s the best mattress for your sleep needs.
However, it’s important to note that the 100-night sleep trial applies only to mattresses bought directly from Zinus. If you buy from Amazon or another online retailer, that retailer’s return policy applies.

The Zinus Green Tea mattress limited warranty lasts for 10 years, beginning on the day your trial period ends. It protects against workmanship or material defects. If you think your mattress has a defect, submit a warranty request on the Zinus website. If your claim is approved, they’ll send you a replacement mattress or issue you a prorated refund.
Make sure you hold onto your original receipt or invoice and register your mattress on the Zinus website, since you’ll need both proof of purchase and registration to make a warranty claim. Also be sure to use an adequately supportive bed frame and don’t remove the white law tags on the mattress.

Should You Buy the Zinus Green Tea Mattress?
The Zinus Green Tea mattress is a great choice if you want a memory foam mattress under $600. It performs well in high priority categories like motion transfer and pressure relief. Unless edge support is really important to you, the only reason you should pass on the Zinus Green Tea mattress is if you get especially hot at night. Zinus sells a hybrid mattress that sleeps a bit cooler thanks to cooling gel-infused memory foam and a breathable coil layer.

How Zinus Green Tea Compares
The Zinus Green Tea mattress generally has a softer feel, better motion isolation, and lower price points than other similar mattress models.
For example, the Studio by Leesa, Casper Element, and Tuft & Needle mattresses are also bed-in-a-box memory foam mattresses. All three have a medium-firm feel that provides a little more pressure relief, but not quite as much motion isolation as the Zinus Green Tea. The Studio costs $799 for a queen, and the Element and Tuft & Needle costs $595, compared with $239–$429 for the Green Tea.
The Zinus Cooling Gel Memory Foam mattress and Zinus Hybrid mattress are also both under $600 and available in a loftier 14 inch profile. The Cooling Gel mattress has a very similar construction to the Zinus Green Tea, except for the addition of a gel-infused layer of memory foam. The Hybrid is a blend of foam and coils. The Green Tea generally outperforms the Cooling Gel, while the Hybrid sleeps cooler and is a bit more durable than the Green Tea.
