Zoma Mattress Review Highlights

Best Mattresses for Athletes - Mattress Advisor

For those who lead an active lifestyle, the Zoma was practically made for you. With a specially-formulated foam construction designed to offer muscle recovery and full body support, the Zoma excels in relieving pressure point pain and soreness. Unlike most memory foam mattresses, the Zoma features cooling technology that puts hybrid beds to shame, and its foam layers work together to limit motion transfer, making this a nice choice for couples. The budget-friendly price and free shipping makes the Zoma a no-brainer if you’re an athlete or side sleeper in need of a rejuvenating night’s rest.

What Makes Zoma Special:

  • A cutting-edge design is what truly sets the Zoma apart from other memory foam mattresses. With advanced cooling technology and eco-friendly materials, the Zoma not only impresses hot sleepers, but also creates a safe and healthy sleep experience overall.
  • The Zoma and its many unique features come at an affordable price, making this mattress a great option for budget-minded shoppers. You can get a Queen for less than $1,000! See: Best Mattresses Under $1000.
  • You just can’t beat the level of pressure relief that you get with the Zoma. Hundreds of mini triangles work together in the comfort layer to offer zoned support and relief for the areas of the body under the most pressure. This innovative technology allows for faster muscle recovery, making this the ideal bed for athletes.

Best/Worst Things about the Zoma Mattress

Pros

  • Cooling: When it comes to cooling, the Zoma dominates. The Triangulex layer has an open-cell design that promotes better airflow, while the breathable cover disperses heat and moisture. The Zoma also features a temperature-regulating design that keeps you cool all night long.
  • Pressure Relief: The Zoma uses pressure-relieving foam layers to offer targeted relief to areas of pain or tension. With specially-formulated technology, the Zoma delivers some of the best pressure relief around so you can enjoy better sleep.
  • Motion Transfer: Thanks to its all-foam construction, the Zoma does extremely well with motion isolation. This means you won’t feel your partner move everytime they get up for a potty break, so you can get your much needed beauty sleep.
  • Made in the USA: The Zoma mattress is designed and manufactured right here in the USA and ships free to all contiguous states.

Cons

  • Edge support: Edge support isn’t Zoma’s strong suit. This isn’t the end of the world as edge support doesn’t affect most sleepers, but if you spend a lot of time hanging on the edge of your mattress then you’d need a bed that has more secure borders so you don’t fall off.
  • Spine alignment: The Zoma scored rather low on spine alignment, meaning it doesn’t do a good job of keeping your spine straight. This isn’t good news for back and stomach sleepers, who generally need more lumbar support and benefit the most from consistent spine alignment. Without spine alignment, these types of sleepers can sink into the mattress, which can cause you to wake up with back pain and soreness.

How the Zoma Feels

In this section, we cover everything that has to do with how the Zoma performs and feels such as how firm it is and what positions sleep best on this mattress.

Firmness Level

The Zoma mattress falls at a medium on the firmness scale, meaning it has a firmness level ranging from 5.5-6.5 out of 10. Medium is the most popular firmness level for mattresses, because it can accommodate the greatest variety of sleepers. The same is true of the Zoma; the Zoma was designed to give sleepers that sweet spot of not too firm, but not too soft.

This means that the mattress will provide a nice balance of comfort and support, while still being firm enough to maintain a straight spine. The Zoma is also soft enough to cushion those areas under the most pressure like your hips and shoulders, making it a great mattress for side sleeping. The Zoma can accommodate most sleeping positions, but stomach sleepers will need a firmer mattress for better overall support.

Does Zoma Support Your Sleeping Position?

Side sleepers will sleep best on the Zoma mattress as its medium firmness level means it’s soft enough to cradle your pressure points. It’s no surprise that the Zoma provides phenomenal pressure relief since it nearly earned a perfect score in that category. This is due in large part to the innovative Triangulex foam layer, which works to provide targeted relief to areas of tension and evenly distributes weight so your hips and shoulders don’t feel overwhelmed with pressure. A second foam transition layer contours to your curves, helping to cushion your body from head to toe–– every side sleeper’s dream. If you want a second opinion, you can compare it to our other top mattresses for side sleepers.

While the Zoma does provide zoned lumbar support and contours in all the right places, back sleepers still may not be completely satisfied with this bed. I have to admit the firmness level is lacking for back sleepers who need sturdy support. Back sleepers generally need a medium-firm to firm mattress to properly support their spine and prevent them from sinking into the mattress, and because the Zoma is an all-foam mattress, it’s definitely on the softer side of medium firm. For lightweight to average sleepers, the Zoma offers adequate back support, but it doesn’t do that well with maintaining a neutral spine. Heavyweight back sleepers would sink into this mattress, and would be better off with either a hybrid bed or an innerspring mattress with supportive coils. Head over to our best mattresses for back sleepers page for more recommendations.

As a combination sleeper myself, I know the frustration that comes with constantly switching positions because you just can’t get comfortable. Lucky for us, the Zoma is practically made for combination sleepers with its dynamic foam layer that responds to your every movement, making it effortless to change positions and a top mattress for combo sleepers. It also limits motion transfer, making this a great mattress for couples who want to enjoy an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Stomach sleepers may want to steer clear of the Zoma. The Zoma simply isn’t firm enough to provide the level of support stomach sleepers need. This is a great mattress for memory-foam lovers who crave the sinking sensation of an all-foam bed, but for stomach sleepers who need firm support in order to keep their hips from sinking, this isn’t your best option. Check out our top mattress picks for stomach sleepers for better recommendations.

Zoma and Temperature Regulation

No need to keep rolling over to find the next cold spot when you have the Zoma mattress. The Zoma excels in cooling in every aspect. The mattress’s cover is wrapped in a breathable fabric that’s heat-wicking, helping you stay cool throughout the night. Additionally, the Triangulex comfort layer features innovative technology that allows the mattress to regulate your temperature. If you’re tired of waking up hot and sweaty, the Zoma mattress could be your solution.

Zoma Mattress Weight Limit

The Zoma mattress can hold 400 lbs on each side of the bed, or 800 lbs overall, so it’s more than capable of supporting two sleepers or a couple. This is above the industry standard in the mattress world, but because this is a memory foam mattress

I still wouldn’t fully recommend this bed to heavyweight sleepers. Heavier people usually need a mattress with coils that provides better support. Most heavy sleepers would sink into the Zoma and not receive proper support. However, lightweight to average sleepers who enjoy the sinking feeling of foam beds would fare well on the Zoma.

Best Compatible Foundations for the Zoma

The Zoma mattress works best on a platform bed, adjustable base or on a slatted base, with slats no more than 3 inches apart and at least half an inch thick. This mattress would also work well on the Zoma Foundation, which was designed to support the Zoma mattress.

Steer clear of box springs, unless you place a flat piece of moisture-resistant plywood on top that’s at least .75 inches thick. This will provide even support across the box spring and prevent moisture from accumulating in your mattress. Keep in mind that using a box spring without the added plywood may void the mattress warranty, so pick your mattress foundation wisely.

Take a Look Inside

Zoma has a traditional memory foam mattress construction with a twist–– it uses its uniquely designed foam layers to offer pressure relief, zoned support, and premier comfort. With advanced cooling technology built into the mattress, Zoma delivers on its promise to provide rest and rejuvenation for sleepers with demanding lifestyles.

The Unboxing Process

The Zoma mattress only took a few minutes for us to unbox and puffed to life rather quickly. When it comes to off-gassing, you’ll be happy to hear that there is none with the Zoma. The Zoma uses an eco-friendly process during manufacturing that minimizes Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which is usually the cause of off-gassing in other foam beds.

There may be a faint scent after initially unboxing your new bed, but this is nothing to worry about as it’s not toxic or harmful, and will dissipate quickly on its own. Check out our unboxing video here!

Shipping and Delivery Policy

The Zoma mattress will ship out within 3-5 business days after placing your order, and will be delivered within 1-5 days after shipping. It will arrive via FedEx with curbside delivery, and you don’t have to be home to sign. If you purchase a Queen size or larger, you may want to find an extra set of hands to help you carry the mattress to its designated room. Zoma does not remove old mattresses, but you can donate them to either a local charity or shelter.

Sleep Trial

This bed-in-a-box mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial, which begins the day your mattress is delivered. If you find during the first 100 days of owning the mattress that the Zoma’s not for you, then you can return it for a full refund during this trial period.

Keep in mind that it can take up to a month for your body to adjust to a new mattress, so Zoma asks that you wait to initiate a return until after the first 30 days of your trial are complete. Between days 30 and 100, you can return it for a full refund by contacting Zoma through email or phone. Zoma will even come pick your mattress up for free, which is a nice perk compared to other mattress companies who usually require you to pay some sort of transportation fee.

As far as the trial length goes when compared to other brands, Zoma’s is pretty average. Some brands offer a trial period of up to 1 year, so that’s something to take note of if you think you may need more time deciding if the mattress is the right fit for you.

Warranty Breakdown

Your Zoma mattress comes with a 10-year warranty…but what does this mean? Well, for one, this means you’re well-protected when you purchase a Zoma mattress. The warranty begins the day you purchase the mattress and only applies to the original purchaser, and states that they will either replace or repair your Zoma mattress based on whatever structural defects you show proof of.

The warranty covers any deterioration in the cell structure of the materials that cause the mattress to have a visible indentation greater than .75 inches.

The warranty does not cover a normal increase in the softness of the mattress or decrease in the recovery nature of the foam. It also doesn’t cover you if you use a box spring without the recommended piece of plywood on top. Other improper foundations will void your warranty, so be careful to pay close attention to the compatible bases section of this review.

To submit a claim, you must do so at the point of purchase directly through the original dealer. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty claims.

Everything Customer Service

Zoma scored excellently on customer service, earning themselves a near perfect score. Through the handy chat feature on their site, you can contact the Zoma team with any immediate questions you may have. You can also email them at support@zomasleep.com, or call them at 888-400-8856.

Return Policy Info

When it comes to the return policy, Zoma has you covered. If you decide to initiate a return during the 100-day trial, you can receive a full refund, no questions asked.

Beyond the trial period, you can still return your mattress under the bed’s 10-year warranty for either a repair or a new mattress, at no cost to you. You will have to provide proof of purchase and proof of a defect covered under the warranty in order to qualify. It’s also a nice bonus that Zoma takes returned mattresses to local charities or recycles them, so at least you know the mattress isn’t going to waste.

To initiate a return, you can contact Zoma through phone at 888-400-8856, or email at support@zomasleep.com.

Should You Purchase the Zoma Mattress?

If you want a quality mattress that can relieve muscle soreness and pressure point pain, then you’ve come to the right place with the Zoma. This memory foam mattress uses a special Triangulex layer to offer targeted relief and contouring, and the brand’s signature Reactiv layer increases the bed’s responsiveness and limits motion transfer. Side sleepers, combination sleepers, and anyone who leads a demanding lifestyle will benefit the most from these features.

The Zoma’s cooling technology shouldn’t be forgotten either. Constructed from a heat-wicking cover and temperature regulating foam layers, the Zoma will help you stay cool all night long. With an affordable price point, free shipping and 10-year warranty, Zoma makes the online mattress buying process as risk-free as possible. This mattress does run on the softer side of medium-firm, so if you’re a back or stomach sleeper, or need more sturdy support in general, then you may want to find a firmer memory foam bed or hybrid mattress fit for supporting you properly.

That brings us to the Casper memory foam mattress. It offers targeted support and pressure relief similar to the Zoma bed, but runs true medium-firm and is more suited for back and stomach sleepers than the Zoma. The Casper also promotes airflow, helping you to keep cool. Check out our full Casper Mattress Review to learn more.

You can also check out the Zoma Hybrid for a bed with better responsiveness.

Zoma Mattress FAQs

Q.

How do I take care of my Zoma mattress?

A.

If you’re concerned about any spills or accidents ruining your Zoma mattress, it may be a good idea to invest in a mattress protector. But if you’re not worried about spills and just want to know the best way to spot-clean your mattress, you can use warm water and soap to gently wipe the mattress.

Q.

How soon should I unbox my Zoma mattress upon delivery?

A.

Luckily, the compression and shipping process doesn’t damage the mattress in any way, so you can actually keep the Zoma in its box for up to three months before there’s any lasting impact or damage to the mattress. It’s comforting to know if you need to leave your new mattress in its box for an extended period of time, you can with the Zoma.

Q.

When can I sleep on my new mattress?

A.

You can sleep on your Zoma the same night it’s delivered thanks to the safe and sustainable materials used in the mattress’s construction. It is suggested that you let the mattress expand for 4-6 hours before sleeping on it, so be sure to give the bed time to fully inflate.
