The main thing: The Zotto mattress is a four-layer foam mattress that combines cooling technology and pressure point relief—all for a reasonable price. We recommend the Zotto mattress for side sleepers, back sleepers, hot sleepers, and couples. It’s made primarily of soft memory foam, so you’ll feel like you’re sleeping “in” the mattress.

Zotto Mattress Review Highlights

Zotto joined the direct-to-consumer mattress market in 2015 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. The company invests all of their sleep knowledge into their one mattress model—the Zotto mattress. It’s a popular choice for shoppers who want the contouring feel of memory foam without the luxury price tag.
We performed a hands-on review of the Zotto mattress. Keep reading to learn if the Zotto is the best new mattress for your sleep needs.
What we love:
- It’s made with a gel memory foam top layer and Cool Flow memory foam support layer that both maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature.
- The Zotto is one of the best value mattresses for memory foam lovers. They ship their foam bed directly from their southern California facility, so you won’t pay more than $1,095 for the largest mattress size.
- Zotto uses only high-quality, CertiPUR-US certified layers of foam in their mattress.
- It is soft enough to cushion pressure points and firm enough to support your lower back.
- Zotto mattresses are made and distributed in the USA.

⭐Total Score for the Zotto Mattress: 8.3/10⭐
The Best/Worst Things
✅ Pros
- The Zotto’s highest performance area was edge support. This is an overlooked feature, but it’s really important if you sleep with a partner or near the edge of the bed.
- We saw good spine alignment on our testers when they laid on the Zotto mattress. When your spine stays in a straight line while sleeping on your side, you experience less back pain and stiffness.
- The Zotto kept our testers from feeling disturbed by most movements on the mattress surface, so we gave it an above-average score for motion transfer.
- Zotto customers receive free shipping and returns. You also get a 100-night sleep trial to test out your new mattress before making a final decision.
❌ Cons
- We noticed a mild off-gassing scent when we first removed the mattress from the plastic packing material. It went away after a few hours.
- Zotto currently does not offer financing on their mattress.
Cooling
The Zotto mattress is packed full of cooling technologies that help you get the best sleep possible. These cooling features include open cell foam—which improves airflow—and phase change materials that keep the mattress at a neutral temperature.
When we laid on the Zotto mattress, we noticed that it didn’t heat up and also didn’t feel cool on contact. Our body heat was quickly absorbed and then released if we cooled off too much, leaving us comfortably temperature-neutral.
Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is an important feature for all sleep positions. Usually, we see high scores for pressure relief when we test memory foam mattresses, but the Zotto earned only an average score of 7/10.
We measure pressure relief by using a pressure mapping pad that shows areas of high pressure. We saw mostly low pressure on our first tester’s body, with some high pressure near his shoulders. We also saw a little red near our second tester’s shoulders and hips, which is why we gave the Zotto a combined score of 7/10 for pressure relief.

Edge Support
Edge support is an important feature for couples or anyone who likes to stretch out while they sleep.
According to our testers, the Zotto had great edge support. They said that sitting on the edge of the bed provided almost the same level of support as sitting on a chair. They also agreed that they could sleep near the edge of the bed without feeling like they might roll off. Collectively, they gave the Zotto a 9.25/10 for the edge support test.

Is It Medium Firmness?
Zotto says that their mattress is medium-soft, but we think it’s medium firm, or 5–6/10 on the firmness scale. The two top layers are decidedly soft, but they don’t provide quite enough pressure relief for us to consider the mattress medium-soft.

What Sleeping Position Does It Best Support?
Back sleepers are the best fit for the Zotto mattress. The soft top layers evenly distribute their body weight, and the support foam prevents sinkage that could cause spine misalignment. Side sleepers will benefit from the contouring memory foam layers.
Stomach sleepers may encounter discomfort because the softness of the top layers causes the lower back to arch slightly out of alignment. Also, the Zotto is best suited for sleepers who favor one sleeping position. Combination sleepers will get only average response times to their changes in position.

Does It Sleep Cool?
Zotto sleeps noticeably cool for a memory foam mattress. The top layer of foam is infused with a phase change material called ThermaPhase™. The material absorbs heat when the mattress surface is too warm and releases heat when it’s too cold.
The second layer of foam has an open cell construction, meaning that the air bubbles in the foam are large enough for easy airflow. Any heat that might seep down from the top layer can escape through this breathable second layer.

What’s the Max Weight Limit?
The Zotto mattress supports 300lbs max per person, which amounts to 600lbs combined on larger mattress sizes. We think the Zotto is best for those with small or average body types, since the memory foam probably won’t give heavyweight sleepers enough support.
What Foundations Can be Used?
Zotto says that their mattress can be used on a standard box spring in good condition, a slatted bed frame (max of 3” between slats), an adjustable bed frame, and even your floor.

Layers
The Zotto mattress has four layers of foam. The top three layers are patent pending, and Zotto calls them the Z3 Package. There is also a fire retardant sock beneath the mattress cover.

- Mattress Cover: The Zotto mattress cover is a poly-rayon material with four-way stretch. It’s removable and machine washable.
- Thermaphase Comfort Layer: The top layer of foam has the “slow sink” and cradling feel of memory foam. It’s infused with temperature regulating ThermaPhase™ material.
- CoolFlow Support Layer: The second layer is made of open cell polyfoam, and provides extra pressure relief for your hips and shoulders.
- Transition Layer: The third foam layer has more bounce than the other two foam layers. It prevents you from sinking too deep into the mattress and adds extra edge support.
- Base Layer: The final foam layer is extra dense, and provides support and durability to the whole mattress.

Unboxing
Your Zotto mattress is compressed, rolled in plastic, and placed in a cardboard box for delivery. The box is 19.5” X 19.5” X 44”, so it easily fits through most doorways. It took us one minute and 41 seconds to set up the mattress. The mattress is easy to lift and light on packaging. There was an off-gassing scent that went away pretty quickly. We could use our Zotto almost immediately, but it can take 24–48 hours to fully inflate.

Should You Buy the Zotto Mattress?
You should buy the Zotto mattress if you are shopping for an affordable memory foam mattress with effective cooling features. Make sure you can pay the full amount up front, since Zotto doesn’t offer financing.
The only people we think should pass on the Zotto are those with heavier body types, especially if you’re a stomach sleeper. Instead, try the Brooklyn Bedding Titan.
How Zotto Compares
The Zotto mattress is generally more cooling but not as pressure relieving as similar all-foam mattresses. For example, the Nectar mattress provides better pressure relief, but not as good spine alignment or cooling.
The Casper mattress has better pressure relief, spine alignment, and responsiveness, but it’s not as cool as Zotto.
The Tuft & Needle mattress provides better motion isolation and pricing, but Zotto has better edge support and cooling.
