By Rachael Harris

Organic mattresses have become more popular as the health and wellness movement has taken off over the last few decades. Naturepedic was founded in 2003 to provide an organic, earth-friendly mattress option for wellness-minded families and individuals. They are still a family-owned company with a heart for providing natural mattresses.

Naturepedic has eliminated all toxic chemicals, flame retardants, and potential allergens, such as polyurethane foam normally used in memory foam mattresses. All of their products are made in the USA, with much of the craftsmanship coming from Amish workers.Their mattresses are certified organic by numerous organizations, so you can rest assured that you’re getting a truly natural product.

Naturepedic Mattress Collections Overview

The Naturepedic mattress company started with a crib mattress for the owner’s grandchild. They’ve grown to include collections for every age and comfort level.

Mattress Names Mattress Type Best for Price Range
Baby Innerspring, Patented wavesupport system Infants and toddlers $249 – $299
Kids Innerspring, Encased coils Children and adolescents $699 – $1,299
Adults Encased coils, Hybrid (coils & latex), All-latex Adolescents and adults $1,199 – $9,999

Naturepedic Baby Mattress Collection

According to Naturepedic, babies spend anywhere between 10 to 14 hours each day on their mattress crib either playing or sleeping. They reason that you wouldn’t want your young child exposed to harmful chemicals for such a prolonged period of time, especially when they are within a foot of these chemicals. That’s why they created their crib mattress. We cover their Classic, Breathable, and Breathable Ultra models. They also have an oval-shaped crib mattress.

Naturepedic Classic Mattress

This traditional crib mattress is offered with two cores: the innerspring or the patented wavesupport™ core. The wavesupport core is lighter-weight, making the mattress easier to lift. It’s also available as a flippable mattress with a firm side for infants and a medium-firm side for toddlers.

The inner layer features organic cotton batting and a firm base that keeps your baby supported and resting on top of the mattress. The outer layer is wipeable and coated in waterproof polyethylene made from non-GMO sugarcane. The seams are heat-sealed with no adhesives, so spills or accidents don’t reach the organic cotton fill inside.

  • 27.25″ x 51.63″ x 6″
  • Lightweight: $259, Lightweight 2-Stage: $289, Innerspring: $299
  • Firm, Firm side/Medium-firm side options

Naturepedic Breathable Mattress

The Naturepedic Breathable crib mattress was designed to reduce the risk of suffocation and to help your baby stay comfortable and cool. The 3-dimensional organic cotton cover creates extra airflow and enables your baby to breath through the fabric. Naturepedic even conducted a third-party safety assessment on their cover and received the lowest risk ranking.

The mattress cover has a waterproof backside, and is fully removable and washable. The mattress underneath functions normally without the cover, so you don’t need to worry about moving your baby in the occasion of a nighttime accident. The Breathable mattress is also offered with 2 sides for growing young ones.

  • Lightweight 2-stage: $349, Innerspring 2-stage: $379
  • Firm side/Medium-firm side

Naturepedic Breathable Ultra Mattress

The Breathable Ultra Mattress moves the waterproof coating from the removable cover to the top layer of the mattress. That way, airflow not only disperses heat away from your baby, but also under her.

Similar to the Breathable mattress, the Breathable Ultra features a machine washable cover, non-toxic waterproof coating, organic cotton, and PLA. Used on the medium-firm side, PLA is a plant-based material created from non-GMO sugarcane.

The firmness level meets recommendations from pediatricians. Baby and toddler bones are still developing, and need a firmer mattress surface. All of the Naturepedic crib mattresses also include edge support to reinforce active toddlers.

Naturepedic Kids Mattress Collection

The Kids Mattress Collection at Naturepedic is designed for growing bodies. A slightly firmer feel promotes healthy development of bones, and natural materials protect children from unpredictable reactions to harmful chemicals. All Naturepedic kids mattresses are made without flame retardants, glues, or adhesives.

Naturepedic 2-in-1 Mattress

The 2-in-1 mattress from Naturepedic is designed for young children transitioning out of their crib. A waterproof side of the mattress ensures that potty training accidents don’t damage the mattress, while a quilted side promotes a comfortable sleep experience for “big kids.”

The support layer of the 2-in-1 mattress is a premium innerspring system. Innerspring mattresses are naturally higher in breathability, so your child won’t get too hot at night. Both sides are cushioned by a cozy organic cotton comfort layer to help your child get the full amount of sleep they need.

Naturepedic Verse Mattress

The Naturepedic Verse mattress is for older kids, although it works great for young kids, too. This model introduces encased coils to the kids collection. Encased coils provide a little more cushion than innerspring coils, and better absorb motion, which is ideal if two kids share the bed. The coils are void of any adhesives or glues, which is a Naturepedic exclusive feature.

The quilted top layer features organic cotton, organic wool batting, and a PLA comfort layer. Combined, these materials create a moisture-wicking, breathable mattress cover. This model is offered in larger sizes to accommodate adolescents, as well.

Naturepedic Adult Mattress Collection

Naturepedic dives into the luxury mattress realm with their adult collection. They have models for every sleeper and budget. All of the models are Greenguard certified and crafted with premium natural, sustainable materials. They also sell organic toppers, sheets, and pillows.

Naturepedic Chorus & Serenade Mattress

The Chorus mattress features dual layers of encased coils. Near the base is a layer of full-sized coils and on top is a layer of microcoils. The full-sized coils create proper spinal alignment and support your full body weight. The microcoils add an extra level of comfort by snuggly contouring around your pressure points.

The Serenade also incorporates a layer of encased coils and adds a latex layer on top for extra coolness and buoyancy. You get to choose between a comfy medium feel and supportive firm feel. Both models utilize natural materials, such as organic cotton, organic wool batting, PLA, and glueless encased coils.

The Serenade Mattress
  • Chorus – 60″ x 80″ x 10″, Serenade – 60″ x 80″ x 11″ (Queen)
  • Chorus – $1,999, Serenade – $2,499 (Queen)
  • Chorus – Medium, Serenade – Medium or Firm
  • Available Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King

Naturepedic EOS Mattress

The EOS mattress line offers 15 firmness options across 3 unique models. Plus, you can customize firmness by side, so both you and your sleeping partner get the comfort you need. If the feel doesn’t work for you during your sleep trial, you can order a different firmness level and return the old one for a full refund. All of the models feature a zippered cover that allow access to the changeable comfort layers beneath.

The EOS Classic is anchored with glueless encased coils that provide ample support for your whole body. A top latex layer reduces motion transfer, stays cool, and adds a slight bounce to your bed.  The EOS Pillow Top combines encased coils with a thick layer of latex and a plush pillow top. Unlike the Classic, this model features 3 customizable layers for ultimate comfort. Additionally, the fibers in the topper wick away moisture and stay cool, so you don’t need to worry about overheating during the night.

The EOS Trilux combines 3 full layers of latex foam for a smooth, supportive feel. Each latex layer is wrapped in organic cotton and supported by a layer of organic cotton batting to make customization even easier. Not only is latex cooling, but the luxurious quilted topper wicks away moisture and keeps cool throughout the night.

Warranty

All of Naturepedic’s mattresses are covered by a limited warranty. To file a claim, you must have access to the original law tags and your proof of purchase with the date of purchase. In order for the warranty to be valid, you must be the original purchaser. Naturepedic will repair or replace your mattress as they deem fit. If you receive a replacement mattress, that does not restart your warranty.

The warranty covers body impressions greater than 1.5” from normal use. It does not cover minor imperfections from normal wear, tears, stains, mold, naturally occurring aromas,  or changes in firmness or comfort preferences. Your warranty will be voided if you misuse or abuse your mattress. That includes burns, folding, inappropriate cleaning or storing, and inadequate return packaging. You also must not remove the law label sewn onto your mattress.

The warranty period is as follows for the different mattress models:

  • Crib mattress: Lifetime warranty
  • Kids mattresses and Chorus adult mattress: 10-year prorated warranty. The first 5 years are non-prorated. After the 5th year, your mattress replacement value drops to 50% and decreases by 10% each year.
  • Serenade, EOS, and Halcyon mattresses: 20-year prorated warranty. The first 10 years are non-prorated. After the 10th year, your mattress replacement value drops to 50% and decreases by 5% each year.
  • Pillow Top mattresses: 10-year prorated warranty. The first 5 years are non-prorated. After the 5th year, your mattress replacement value drops to 50% and decreases by 10% each year.

For any questions about your warranty, or to make a claim, call 1-800-917-3342.

Customer Reviews

  • “It was important for me to have a mattress free of chemicals and that will also last me a long time. I have spoken to the company many times and they have excellent customer service. And the best part is if you lay next to your child they can’t tell when you get up because it barely moves.” – Rolitta (Amazon reviewer)
  • My daughter loves it and has been sleeping very soundly – and she spends so much time in it that I feel really glad knowing it has no chemicals that could be bad for her. Even my nanny saw me taking the photos for this review and said, ‘Yes! You should write a review!’ This mattress is really great!” – Beth (Amazon reviewer)
  • This mattress is fantastic! It is extremely firm so the baby can not bounce on it and get injured. The sheets we have fit perfectly, so we know it was made exactly the right size. The material on this seems better than the cheap plastic that just cracks on the other mattress we had.” – Honey B. (Amazon reviewer)

FAQs

What makes a mattress organic?

Quite simply, organic mattresses are made with organic materials and lack the questionable chemicals found in conventional mattresses. People choose organic mattresses because they spend around one-third of their life sleeping in close proximity to their mattress materials. By shopping organic, they are avoiding extra exposure to potentially toxic chemicals.

How do I clean my crib mattress?

Thanks to the waterproof crib mattress covering, you need only to wipe down spills with a wet cloth. If necessary, you can also use soap or another sanitizer on bodily fluids. Some of the models have breathable covers that can be removed and machine washed.

Naturepredic recommends using waterproof mattress pads to protect any of their crib mattresses with a quilted surface. If the quilted cover needs cleaning, use mild soap and warm water only, and let it dry completely before using again.

Does Naturepedic off financing?

Yes, Naturepedic offers financing through Affirm, enabling you to pay for your new mattress in increments.
