Key Similarities
- These are both all-foam mattresses, specifically memory foam mattresses. They don’t have innerspring systems or pocket coils, just high-quality memory foam layers.
- The Nectar and AS3 share a medium to medium-firm feel on the firmness scale. This is the ideal firmness level for most sleepers, since it’s not too hard and not too soft.
- As online mattress companies, Nectar and Amerisleep both ship their mattresses bed-in-a-box style.
Key Differences
- Nectar gives you a 365-day trial period—an entire year—to get the feel of their mattress, while Amerisleep gives you 100 days.
- These two beds are strong in different categories. The AS3 surpassed the Nectar in spinal alignment by almost a full point during our lab assessments. On the flip side, the Nectar beat the AS3 by 1.5 points for responsiveness.
- The Amerisleep AS3 is slightly more expensive than the Nectar, costing between $1–$273 more than the Nectar.
- Both mattresses are protected by generous warranty periods, but Nectar’s warranty is for the entire lifetime of the original owner, while Amerisleep’s is 20 years long.

Nectar Mattress Review Highlights
- Pressure Relief: The Nectar mattress’s three layers of memory foam all provide ample contouring to sensitive pressure points, resulting in reduced neck and back pain.
- Edge Support: Do you sleep on the edge of your bed? The Nectar mattress is supportive across the whole mattress surface, so you won’t roll off when your arm hangs over the side.
- Sleep Trial: The feel of memory foam mattresses can fluctuate depending on the temperature in your room. Nectar gives you a full year to determine if their mattress is for you, so you can see how it feels in all four seasons.
- Responsiveness: Nectar scored extra high in this category. It’s soft enough to cradle your body but springy enough to bounce back to its original shape when you move.

Amerisleep AS3 Mattress Highlights
- Motion Transfer: The Amerisleep AS3’s highest score is for motion transfer, also known as motion isolation. Basically, it does an excellent job of diffusing movement before it disrupts others sleeping with you.
- Breathability: The foams used in the AS3 mattress have an open-cell structure that allows air to flow freely. Better airflow keeps the temperature of your mattress at a comfortable level.
- HIVE Technology: The AS3 model has a transition layer that delivers ergonomic support to your body. Your lower back has more support, while your shoulders get more cushion. This drastically reduces strain on major pressure points.
- Eco-Friendly: All of the Amerisleep models are CertiPUR-US certified and constructed with Bio-Pur memory foam. Rather than petrochemicals, this foam is made from renewable plant-based oils, so you’ll notice minimal off-gassing from Amerisleep beds.

Compare What’s Inside
Next, we’ll take a closer look at the materials that make these mattresses so comfy.

Inside the Nectar Mattress
- Mattress Cover: Nectar’s cover is quilted with knit, polyester, and polyethylene for a soft and breathable surface.
- Gel Memory Foam: This comfort layer is infused with gel, which is cool on contact and naturally temperature regulating.
- Transition Layer: Another denser layer of memory foam keeps your body weight supported and your spine aligned.
- Support Foam: This thick base layer keeps the mattress from sagging.
- Mattress Cover: The bottom of the cover is no-slip, so your Nectar mattress stays in place on its foundation.

Inside the Amerisleep AS3 Mattress
- Refresh Cooling Cover: Made with fiber that transfers energy away from the body, this cover keeps you cooler than traditional mattress covers.
- Comfort Layer: This layer is made of breathable Bio-Pur foam. It keeps you cool and quickly adjusts as you move around at night.

Sleeping Position
As you review the Mattress Advisor scores for these mattresses, consider your sleeping position. Back sleepers fare well on firm mattresses, and stomach sleepers do best on medium-firm beds that keep their spine aligned. The Nectar scored higher for spinal alignment, so it’s the better option for these two sleeping positions.
Side sleepers need extra pressure relief to cushion their shoulders and hips. Again, the Nectar scored slightly higher in this category.
Responsiveness
If you’re a combination sleeper, look at the scores for responsiveness. This category has the widest score gap between the two mattresses. Nectar received a score of 8.5/10, and the Amerisleep AS3 earned 7/10. That makes the Nectar the better option for sleepers who expect to move around a lot at night.
Cooling and Motion Transfer
Do you sleep with a partner? Do you live in a warm climate or tend to get hot at night? Then pay extra attention to categories related to your sleep environment.
Couples—or anyone who anticipates sleeping with a partner—need a bed with good motion isolation if they want an undisrupted night’s sleep. Both mattresses scored well in this category, but the Amerisleep AS3 did a fraction better.
If you get hot while you sleep, look at the scores for cooling. The Amerisleep AS3 and Nectar mattresses scored just above average for cooling, and again, the AS3 received a slightly higher score.
Our Verdict: Which is the Best Mattress?
At the end of the day, both of these mattresses will give you a good night’s sleep. They each have a medium feel that works for the average sleeper, plus effective cooling features. They also both provide adequate pressure relief. Still, we recommend the Nectar for combo sleepers and budget shoppers and the AS3 for couples.
