Key Similarities
- The Nectar by Resident and GhostBed mattresses by Nature’s Sleep both incorporate gel memory foam layers into their 3-layer construction.
- Each of these beds is medium-firm on the firmness scale, which works well for most sleeping positions.
- Both mattresses are protected by lengthy warranties. Considering that the average mattress is designed for around 15 years of effective use, Nectar and GhostBed’s 20+ year warranties have you covered.
- The Nectar and GhostBed mattresses scored high for responsiveness in our comprehensive lab evaluation.
Key Differences
- The Nectar is an all-foam mattress, while the GhostBed pairs foam layers with a top layer of latex foam.
- GhostBed’s sleep trial is about a third of the length of Nectar’s. Nectar gives you a 365-day trial period, and GhostBed gives you 101 days.
- Both of these mattresses have distinct strong suits. Nectar scored higher than GhostBed on pressure relief, while GhostBed scored higher for durability.
- Nectar mattresses have a lower price point overall.

The Nectar Mattress Review Highlights
- The Nectar scored high in pressure relief, so it does a good job of contouring around pressure points such as shoulders and hips.
- Motion transfer was another strength of the Nectar mattress. It prevents movement from escaping across the mattress surface, so you won’t be disrupted by motion from partners, pets, or children.
- Nectar offers an incredible forever warranty and 365-day sleep trial. These are just about unheard of in the mattress industry.
- As a bed-in-a-box mattress, the Nectar is more affordable than some competitors.
- Nectar also scored high in responsiveness, meaning the top layers rapidly adjust to your changes in position. You won’t feel like you’re stuck in the same position all night.

The GhostBed Classic Mattress Review Highlights
- The GhostBed Classic scored high on our cooling assessment (8.5/10), even with a memory foam layer. Cooler mattresses help you stay comfortable while you sleep, rather than waking up hot or soaked in sweat.
- GhostBed offers a generous 20-year warranty on all of their mattresses, which covers the bulk of the mattress lifespan.
- By incorporating a perforated latex layer on top, the GhostBed has better breathability and temperature regulation than traditional memory foam.
- The GhostBed provides plenty of edge support, so you don’t need to worry about rolling off the side of your bed.
- Latex is a bit bouncier than foam. Rather than absorbing the energy from motion on your bed, latex springs back to its original shape. Accordingly, the GhostBed scored high on responsiveness in our lab evaluation.

Compare Mattress Construction: Nectar and GhostBed

The Nectar Mattress Layers
- Polyethylene Cover: This quilted cover is a blend of polyethylene, knit and polyester. It’s breathable and provides soft comfort under the body.
- Gel Memory Foam: The comfort layer consists of medical grade visco elastic memory foam. It’s infused with gel to add an extra level of cooling.
- Adaptive Hi-Core Memory Foam: This supportive layer functions as a transition layer, preventing you from sinking into the mattress.
- Base Layer: The mattress foundation is made up of durable high-density foam.

The GhostBed Mattress Layers
- Mattress Cover: The whole mattress is wrapped in a moisture-wicking polyester-viscose fabric. It stretches with your body so you get the full benefit of the memory foam.
- Aerated Latex Foam: This bouncy layer is punctured with hundreds of tiny holes to keep air flowing through the top layers of the mattress.
- Gel Memory Foam: The memory foam in this cooling layer has larger cells than your average memory foam, so it does a better job at drawing heat away from your body.
- Base Layer: This bottom layer of high-density support foam prevents sinkage from occurring where you sleep night after night. It also helps to keep your spine aligned while you sleep.

Pressure Relief and Sleeping Position
Sleeping position plays one of the largest roles in deciding which will be the most comfortable mattress for you. Side sleepers need a bed that will keep their spine aligned while reducing stress on pressure points. The Nectar does a much better job than the GhostBed in this category. It’s scored 8.5/10, while GhostBed scored only 6.5/10.
Stomach and back sleepers can take their pick between the two beds. Both scored 7.5/10 for spinal alignment, which is arguably the most important factor for these sleeping positions.
Combination sleepers can also choose between either mattress since they both scored 8.5/10 for responsiveness.
Budget
Budget-conscious shoppers will save more by buying a Nectar bed, but the price difference isn’t vast. The GhostBed costs between $50-$300 more than the Nectar. If you’re buying a Twin sized bed, choose whichever will be the most comfortable, since the price difference is only $50.
Both companies also offer financing through Affirm, so you can make monthly payments if you need a bed fast, but don’t have the full sum. Keep your eyes peeled for deals and discounts from both brands. They’ll often add free pillows or sheets to your mattress purchase as well.
Off-Gassing
The Nectar and GhostBed both offer all standard mattress sizes, and both deliver bed-in-a-box style. Boxed mattresses are easier to transport up flights of stairs and through narrow hallways. When you unbox both mattresses, you’ll be met with an off-gassing smell (Nectar more so than GhostBed). This is normal with foam mattresses and should dissipate in a few hours.
Motion Transfer
Sleeping partners also affect your sleep environment, especially if you are a light sleeper. The Nectar mattress scored higher in this category (8.5/10). The GhostBed received average marks (7.5/10), but the Nectar does a better job of isolating motion across the mattress surface, making it a better choice for couples.
Trial Period
Fortunately, both of these mattresses offer free shipping and returns during the sleep trial. Nectar’s 365-day sleep trial begins after a 30-day break-in period. GhostBed gives you 101-days to trial their mattress. If you’d like to test out your new mattress in all 4 seasons, the Nectar is for you.
Both companies also offer generous warranty periods. Most mattresses remain effective for up to 15 years with normal use. GhostBed’s 20-year warranty and Nectar’s lifetime warranty each protect your mattress for the duration of its lifespan.
Summary: Is Nectar or GhostBed the Better Mattress?
The Nectar is better side sleepers, but equally comfortable for back and stomach sleepers. The Nectar is the cheaper option, especially among the larger sizes. The GhostBed is better for hot sleepers, and the Nectar is slightly better for couples. Both offer generous warranties and Nectar provides a decidedly better trial period.
We hope you feel confident about which of these beds is the best for you. Both of them will offer you a quality night’s sleep for years to come!
