Royal Hotel Bedding crafts luxury bed and bath items that are made to resemble what you’d find at high-end hotels and resorts. By selling online only, primarily through Amazon, Royal Hotel is able to offer high-quality products at budget-friendly prices.

The Royal Hotel luxury down pillow feels like a high-end pillow from a 5-star resort. Its fluffy coziness and generous fill level balances plush comfort with long-lasting support. In this review, we’re going to go over what’s special about this pillow, its pros and cons, and what to expect during the buying process

What’s Inside Royal Hotel Pillow

The Royal Hotel White Down Pillow comes in 2 varieties. The first is their all-down pillow that comes in soft, medium-firm, firm, and extra-firm firmness levels. The second type of pillow is an adjustable down pillow with a memory foam insert.

The Royal Hotel Pillow Construction

The Royal Hotel all-feather pillow is made from 75% down and 25% small feathers. Downy clusters are the soft, snowflake-like feathers found closest to a bird’s skin, while small feathers have quills and are a bit heavier. The higher the percentage of down, the more luxurious and fluffy the down pillow. The 75% fill level of the Royal Hotel Pillow is to thank for the generous loft and cozy, relatively firm feel of the pillow.

Because the Royal Hotel Pillow has both down and feathers, it’s heavier than some of the more expensive down pillows, but it’s lightweight in comparison to other pillow types, such as memory foam pillows. It has a 650 fill power, which creates a balanced feel of both fluffiness and support.

The firmness level represents not only how soft the pillow feels, but how lofty and supportive it is. Opt for the soft if you’re a stomach or back sleeper who prefers a soft, minimal feel, the medium-firm or firm if you prefer a balance of plushness and support, and the extra-firm if you’re a side sleeper who finds most pillows too flimsy.

Royal Hotel uses sanitized down filling to make their pillows hypoallergenic, bringing downy comfort to those with allergies and asthma. And with their 500-thread count cotton cover, you can rest assured that quills won’t be poking you throughout the night. Not only is the cotton cover durable, but it’s breathable, keeping the pillow relatively cool.

One touch that I appreciate is the double silky piping around the pillow’s edges. Not only does this attention to detail add a touch of class and luxury, but it also reinforces the pillow itself, boosting longevity and keeping the feathers inside of the pillow.

What Type of Down?

One qualm that I have with the Royal Hotel Pillow is that the company doesn’t clearly state whether the pillow is a white duck or white goose down pillow. White goose down feathers are considered the premium down feather type due to exceptionally fluffy down clusters, while duck down is nice but not quite as luxurious.

When reviewing the Q&A section on Amazon, some customers claim that the packaging states that it is a goose feather fill. However, the company has only responded to this question by stating that their pillows are made from 75% down and 25% small feathers. Therefore, it’s likely that these pillows contain white duck feathers and down rather than goose down.

Stand Out Features

There’s a lot of love about the Royal Hotel Down Pillow. Here are a few of the features that make this pillow stand out.

Multiple options: With multiple firmness options and an adjustable memory foam/down hybrid pillow, the Royal Hotel Down Pillow works well for every sleeping position. I particularly love the adjustable down pillow with the memory foam insert as this pillow combines the plush, cozy comfort of down with the contouring support of memory foam.

Competitive price: The average down pillow costs well over $100. At $80-$90 per pillow, the Royal Hotel Pillow costs far less than most down pillows.

Durable construction: Down pillows are one of the most durable pillow types, and Royal Hotel uses high-quality materials for impressive longevity. The high thread count cover keeps any stray feathers from poking through. When down pillows have a lower-quality shell, gradual feather depletion will lead to flatter, less comfortable pillows over time. Additionally, 650 fill level is relatively high for the pice, with higher fill levels associated with pillows that stay fluffier for longer.

Best For/Not Best For

Thanks to 3 firmness levels and an adjustable memory foam/down hybrid pillow, there aren’t too many sleepers that wouldn’t enjoy a Royal Hotel Down Pillow.

The soft option is lightweight, fluffy, and easily compressible. Its cloudlike comfort is perfect for stomach sleepers. When you sleep on your front, you need a pillow with limited loft to keep your neck comfortable.

The medium-firm pillow has a medium feel with moderate loft that’s great for most back sleepers. Back sleepers can benefit from the luxurious feel combined with average support.

The firm and extra-firm pillows are going to be best for back sleepers and side sleepers who need extra loft and support to keep their necks properly aligned. Understand that even the extra-firm pillow isn’t going to offer the same lofty support as more heavy types of pillows, such as all-foam or latex pillows.

If you need a pillow that offers greater neck support than a 100% feather pillow, try the Royal Hotel Adjustable Down Pillow option. This is one of the best pillows for those who want the contouring support of memory foam without the feel of an extra-firm pillow. The soft down that surrounds the memory foam ensures that you get both reliable support and a plush feel.

The only types of sleepers for whom I wouldn’t recommend the Royal Hotel Pillow are hot sleepers. Both down and memory foam have a tendency to absorb excess body heat. Even though the cotton shell is breathable, the pillow may sleep somewhat hot.

Customer Reviews

  • “When I received these pillows I thought my head was lying on a cloud. The perfect amount of filling, the size fit just right, and comfort was exactly what I was looking for. I am in heaven with my new pillows.” -Carolann M.
  • “I am a pillow freak. I can’t stand wimpy, flat pillows. Going to a hotel or visiting a friend is always an issue unless I bring my own pillow. I replace my down pillows every few years because washing them only works for a little while, and then they ultimately break down. These pillows are wonderfully full and hold their loft through the night. I am a side sleeper and prefer a slightly firmer pillow which is what these are.” -Ally K.
  • “It took me awhile to find my favorite pillow, but this is it. I need a pillow that can do it all…comfort, support, style, and can last! These are as good as any hotel pillow I’ve experienced. Finally, I have a favorite.” -Anonymous

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Great Quality, Great Price: Thanks to overseas construction and selling only online, Royal Hotel Bedding offers high-quality pillows at a reasonable price.  Not an Extra Soft Down Pillow: While the Royal Hotel Pillow is a luxurious down pillow, it’s not the lightest, softest down pillow available. The best down pillows for those who like a lightweight, ultra-squishy feel have an even higher percentage of down (look for 85% down).
Multiple Options: With 3 firmness levels and an adjustable down pillow with a memory foam insert, this pillow works for every sleep position.   Slightly Hot: Down pillows sleep hotter than most down alternative pillows thanks to lower breathability. If you’re a hot sleeper, Royal Hotel’s Down Pillow may not be the best fit.
Balanced Feel: Thanks to sturdy feathers, fluffy down, and a generous fill level, the Royal Hotel Pillows marry plush comfort with reliable support.
