Key Similarities
- Cooling: Both the Saatva Classic and GhostBed Classic are designed to keep you sleeping cool. Saatva accomplishes this with two coil layers, and the GhostBed uses naturally cool latex and gel-infused memory foam.
- Durability: Both mattresses are extremely durable, thanks to their sturdy construction. Their generous warranties back up this durability: The Saatva offers a lifetime warranty, and GhostBed offers a 20-year warranty, which is longer than the expected lifespan of a mattress.
- Edge Support: If you like to sleep on the edge of the bed or use the edge for sitting, both beds have you covered. This is also great for older adults who need extra support for getting in and out of bed.
Key Differences
- Pressure Relief: The Saatva provides superior pressure relief compared to the GhostBed Classic. This means side sleepers have less pressure point pain and are more comfortable when sleeping on the Saatva.
- Firmness: The GhostBed Classic comes in one firmness level–medium-firm. The Saatva, on the other hand, is available in three firmnesses: plush, luxury firm, and firm.
- Delivery: Saatva’s delivery process is seamless with white-glove delivery, which means they set up the mattress for you. GhostBed offers a bed-in-a-box experience and ships its bed to you. If you want quick delivery, though, GhostBed Classic arrives 2-5 days after you place your order, compared to Saatva’s approximately 21 days.
- Returns: Returns for both involve pickup from your home, but Saatva charges $99 for this service, while GhostBed picks up the bed for free and donates it to a local charity.
- Construction: The Saatva Classic is a luxury hybrid mattress with a Euro pillow top, memory foam, and two layers of coils. The GhostBed Classic comprises latex foam on top, followed by memory foam and a base of high-density polyfoam.

- Luxury Experience: Saatva provides white-glove delivery. You can sit back and relax rather than lug around a heavy box during your mattress setup.

- Other Options: Saatva offers more mattress options, including hybrid, memory foam, and latex beds. Other popular Saatva options include the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid and its smart bed, the Saatva Solaire.

GhostBed Classic Review Highlights
- Cooling: The top layer of naturally cool latex and second layer of gel-infused memory foam provide as much cooling as you could hope for in a latex and foam bed. The GhostBed’s cover is also made from a viscose-polyester blend designed to wick away moisture and dissipate body heat.
- Returns: GhostBed has one of the best return procedures around. All you have to do is call them up, and they arrange a time to pick up your mattress and donate it to a local charity. You then receive a full refund if you call between 30 and 101 days.
- Edge Support: Thanks to outstanding edge support, the GhostBed is a great option for those who sleep close to the edge of the mattress or need extra support getting in and out of bed.
- Responsiveness: The GhostBed Classic features bouncy latex, which quickly responds to any tossing and turning, and makes it a great mattress for sex.
- Other Options: GhostBed offers three other mattresses, all of which vary in firmness–the hybrid GhostBed Flex, cooling GhostBed Luxe, and plush GhostBed 3D-Matrix.

Compare the Construction
The Saatva Classic and GhostBed Classic differ quite a bit in their constructions. Find out more about what that means for your sleep in our layer-by-layer breakdown.

Inside the Saatva Mattress
The construction of the Saatva Classic incorporates five layers of comfort and support, with a particular focus on the lumbar region. The mattress comes in three firmness options ranging from soft to extra firm.
A breathable organic cotton cover sits atop a 3” Euro pillow top, which provides luxurious comfort and cushioning. Variations in foam density here create the different firmness levels.
Next is the back support system. The Saatva Classic uses CertiPUR-US Certified memory foam along the middle third of the mattress for added support and contouring along the hips and spine. In this same area is Saatva’s back support wire, which helps to keep the spine supported in every sleeping position.
Saatva’s support system incorporates two layers of springs–that’s right, two layers. Saatva is fairly unique in offering a dual-coil design, which improves responsiveness, airflow, and support. Zoned coils make up the first layer, further enhancing lumbar support, and super-strong recycled steel coils comprise the bottom layer.
- Euro Pillow Top: An organic cotton cover surrounds the Saatva Classic’s 3” Euro pillow top, providing cooling and pressure relief.
- Back Support Layer: High-density memory foam and Saatva’s Lumbar Zone Active Spinal Wire deliver support and contouring along the spine.
- Pocketed Coils: Pocketed recycled steel coils allow for a very responsive layer, with sturdier coils in the center of the bed providing back support.
- Edge Support Layer: High-density foam rails line the mattress’s perimeter, enhancing edge support and increasing sleep surface.
- Steel Coil Base: Tempered steel coils provide increased airflow and support, while improving the bed’s durability by minimizing the potential for sagging over time.

Inside the GhostBed Classic
The GhostBed Classic is a mixed foam bed that boasts three types of foam, crafted for a comfortable and cool night’s sleep.
The breathable, plush cover wraps around the foam layers. It’s a soft blend of viscose and polyester that wicks away moisture and allows body heat to dissipate.
Aerated latex foam comprises the first layer of the GhostBed Classic. Not only is latex naturally cooling, but the aeration of the latex adds breathability. Other aspects of latex include responsiveness and the feeling of bounciness, which is important for adult activities.
Next, two inches of gel-infused memory foam cradle your pressure points, such as shoulders and hips. Memory foam is traditionally not the best option for hot sleepers. However, the gel draws heat away from the body, so this layer actually has cooling properties. In addition, the foam in this layer is softer near the knees and shoulders and firmer in the center of the bed to provide pressure relief and lumbar support.
Lastly, the bottom layer of high-density polyfoam makes up 7.5 inches of this bed, keeping the spine aligned and reducing sagging.
- Plush Cover: A moisture-wicking polyester-viscose blend cover wraps around the GhostBed Classic. It provides a four-way stretch, allowing the cover to conform to your body when moving.
- Latex Foam (1.5 inches): Aerated latex foam allows for cooling airflow, responsiveness, and bounce.
- Memory Foam (2 inches): Gel-infused memory foam cradles your shoulders and hips, providing pressure relief.
- Base Layer (7.5 inches): High-density polyfoam comprises the foundation layer of the GhostBed. It reduces sagging and improves durability.

Pressure Relief
Pressure relief is one area where the Saatva Classic massively outperforms GhostBed Classic. Earning a 9/10 in this category, the Saatva Classic is the better choice for sleepers who need pressure relief, such as side sleepers and people with arthritis.
The different firmness levels of the Saatva Classic provide different degrees of pressure relief. Lighter-weight side sleepers should consider plush, while combination and side sleepers of average weight may prefer luxury firm.
Edge Support
Both mattresses provide strong edge support, though the Saatva Classic is ultimately the winner with a perfect 10/10. Edge support is important for couples who sleep on opposite ends of the bed, people who like to sit on the edge of the mattress, and older adults who need extra stability getting in and out of bed.
Shipping
If you need a new bed soon, GhostBed is your clear frontrunner. From the time you order, your new GhostBed Classic mattress should arrive at your door within 2-5 days. This turnaround time is significantly faster than Saatva’s because Saatva builds each bed to order, so it takes them at least 21 days to deliver your mattress.
Spine Alignment
The Saatva’s multiple layers of reinforced back support and multiple firmness options make it an excellent bed for people with back pain. In the Mattress Advisor lab, the Saatva Classic earned a perfect 10/10 score for spine alignment. While the GhostBed earned a solid 7.5/10, its design isn’t as good as Saatva’s for back support and alignment.
Which Is the Better Mattress?
These two cooling mattresses have great things to offer different shoppers. We recommend the Saatva Classic for side sleepers, as well as for older people and those with mobility issues who need extra support getting in and out of bed. The Saatva Classic’s 14.5” height option plus outstanding edge support makes it our top-choice mattress for elderly sleepers. And with multiple firmnesses, it’s better than the GhostBed for soft and firm mattress aficionados.
For those who prefer an all-foam bed but worry about overheating, the GhostBed Classic is our recommendation. It’s not super common for foam beds to boast as many cooling properties as you see in this mattress. It’s also our choice for people who want quick delivery and hassle-free returns.
