Compare Mattress Structure & Feel
Since the Saatva Classic and Tempur-Cloud are different types of mattresses, their construction varies. As a hybrid, the Saatva Classic is made up of foam layers and a coil system. It comes in two height options and three comfort levels: plush soft, luxury firm, and firm.
The Tempur-Cloud is an all-foam mattress consisting of three layers of foam. With a medium-firm feel, this mattress is a great choice for all sleeping positions.
Those who like a traditional memory foam feel will prefer the Tempur-Cloud. If you want something with a bit more spring and support, consider the Saatva Classic. Keep reading to see what each layer includes.

Inside the Saatva Mattress
- Quilted Euro Pillow-Top: The top layer consists of a 3″ Euro pillow-top with Lumbar Zone® Quilting to provide cushioning. It’s designed to offer maximum comfort and coziness.
- Back Support Layer: A combination of Saatva’s Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire and high-density memory foam provides pressure relief and lower-back support.
- Responsive Coils: Saatva uses recycled, pocketed steel coils that react to your body’s movement for better contouring. This makes the mattress stronger in the center third to support your body fully.
- Edge Support Layer: High-density foam rails stabilize the mattress edges, extend the sleep surface, and make it easier to get in and out of bed.
- Base Coil Unit: Dual-coils of tempered steel provide durability and airflow and reduce sagging over time and allow a better airflow while you sleep.

Inside the Tempur-Cloud Mattress
- 360° Stretch Cover: A soft, responsive cover made from Tempur-Pedic’s latest material wraps around the Tempur-Cloud mattress.
- Tempur® Comfort Layer: This layer is designed to provide cushioning and responsiveness.
- Tempur® Support Layer: A firmer layer created to adapt and conform to your body, delivering pressure relief throughout the night.
- Base Layer: The Tempur-Cloud’s final layer consists of a base that provides durability and support to the entire mattress.

Motion Transfer
Tempur-Pedic’s specialty memory foam does an excellent job of isolating motion transfer. Our testers gave it a near-perfect 9.75/10 score. The Saatva Classic, however, scored pretty average in this category and wouldn’t be the best option for couples or those who sleep with a child or pet.
Edge Support
One area where the Saatva Classic beat the Tempur-Cloud mattress was in edge support. Its coil system and reinforced edges help provide a secure bed that you don’t have to worry about toppling out of. The Tempur-Cloud showed significant dipping when our testers sat on the edge of the bed. Edge support may not be a big concern to most shoppers but if you like to take full advantage of every inch of your bed, the Saatva Classic may suit your needs better.
Pressure Relief
Both mattresses have excellent pressure relief, making them great options for all sleeping positions. We noticed slight pressure buildup in the shoulder area when our testers laid on their side on the Tempur-Cloud, but nothing major. If you have sensitive shoulders and like to sleep on your side, you may want to pick the Saatva Classic over the Tempur-Cloud. Otherwise, both options will provide you with a great amount of comfort.
Cooling
When it comes to cooling, the Saatva Classic is definitely the better option. All-foam mattresses tend to trap heat and the Tempur-Cloud was no exception, despite having a moisture-wicking cover. If you’re a hot sleeper, go with the Saatva Classic.
Which Is the Better Mattress for You?
At the end of the day, picking the best mattress comes down to which one meets your top requirements. To choose the right one, consider your sleeping position, sleep environment, budget, and ideal customer experience.
Sleeping Position
When looking for your perfect mattress, it’s important to take note of how a bed does at providing pressure relief and spinal alignment. Side sleepers and stomach sleepers typically need a mattress that can relieve pressure in their shoulders and hip area. Similarly, back sleepers will want pressure relief in the lower back area. Both these beds did great in our pressure relief evaluation.
Spinal alignment is also important for all positions since it helps you wake up free of back pain. The Saatva Classic scored higher in this category, making it a better option for those who tend to have back pain.

Sleep Environment
If you sleep with a partner, it’s important to find a mattress that isolates motion well so that you don’t wake up every time they move around. Tempur-Cloud performed exceptionally in this category.
Since the Saatva Classic is a hybrid mattress, its springs make it difficult to isolate motion. It scored an average 7.5 for this category.
Budget
The Saatva Classic is the budget-friendly option. It runs between $504-$1,012 less than the Tempur-Cloud. Both companies offer financing options – Saatva through Affirm and Tempur-Pedic through Wells Fargo.
Customer Service
As you’re shopping, you may want to consider what the customer experience is like for each company. Saatva is a bit more generous than Tempur-Pedic, offering a 365-night sleep trial and free white glove services. Tempur-Pedic offers just a 90-day sleep trial and their usual white glove delivery service doesn’t apply to the Tempur-Cloud mattress. If you want a bit more time to test out your mattress or don’t want the hassle of setting up your bed, go with the Saatva Classic.
Tempur-Pedic offers a standard mattress warranty, lasting 10 years. In comparison, Saatva gives its customers a lifetime warranty.
Both companies also have convenient ways to get in touch with sleep experts. This includes email, phone, and live chat options.
