Compare Inside Layers
The type of materials in your mattress can help ensure you have a great night’s sleep. The Saatva Classic is a hybrid mattress, consisting of foam and coil layers. Its firmness varies depending on what comfort level you select. The plush soft option gives a body-hugging feel and comes with extra padding in the pillow-top. For the luxury firm level, Saatva mimics a luxury hotel feel and for the firm level they create a bed where you sleep on the surface rather than in it.
Zenhaven is an all-natural latex dual-sided mattress. Unlike the Saatva Classic, it doesn’t use any coils in the structure. The luxury plush side contours to your body easily and relieves major pressure points. Its firm side elevates your body and is great for stomach or back sleepers.

Inside the Saatva Mattress
- Quilted Euro Pillow-Top: The top layer consists of a 3″ Euro pillow-top with Lumbar Zone® Quilting to provide cushioning. It’s designed to offer maximum comfort and coziness.
- Back Support Layer: A combination of Saatva’s Lumbar Zone® Active Spinal Wire and high-density memory foam provides pressure relief and lower-back support.
- Responsive Coils: Saatva uses recycled, pocketed steel coils that react to your body’s movement for better contouring. This makes the mattress stronger in the center third to support your body fully.
- Edge Support Layer: High-density foam rails stabilize the mattress edges, extend the sleep surface, and make it easier to get in and out of bed.
- Base Coil Unit: Dual-coils of tempered steel provide durability and airflow and reduce sagging over time and allow a better airflow while you sleep.

Inside the Zenhaven Mattress
- Quilted Cover: The Zenhaven mattress is covered with an organic cotton cover, which is naturally hypoallergenic and breathable. It also has a Lumbar Zone® Quilting to give you more support in the center third of your mattress and an exclusive Saatva Guardin™ botanical antimicrobial treatment to prevent mold and bacteria growth.
- Gentle-Firm Side: Made with Saatva’s unique “5-Zone” comfort layer, this layer is designed to provide different support levels across different areas of the body. “Pinholes” are formed during the Talalay process and vary in size and distribution helping to create different densities throughout the layer. The firmer side offers more solid support beneath the torso and shoulders to support spine alignment.
- Latex Support Core: A support layer makes up the core of the mattress and consists of 6″ of 100% Talalay latex for durable support and optimal support while you sleep.
- Luxury-Plush Side: This side is made with the same “5-Zone” design as the gentle-firm side but with a softer feel that would appeal to stomach sleepers. It offers excellent support and contouring for your pressure points.

Spine Alignment
One area where the Saatva Classic outperformed the Zenhaven mattress was in our spinal alignment evaluation. This looks at whether a mattress helps keep your spine in a neutral position, which is important to help avoid getting backaches. We gave the Saatva Classic a perfect 10/10 in this category. The Zenhaven was a full two points behind with a score of 8/10.
Pressure Relief
Both mattresses provide excellent pressure relief for sleepers of all sizes and positions. When using a pressure map tool, there were mostly areas of low pressure for the Saatva Classic.
The Zenhaven had some areas of pressure in the shoulder area when our testers tried out the luxury plush side. It also caused some pressure for stomach sleepers on the luxury firm. However, since there is a firmer side, side sleepers and stomach sleepers can get the pressure relief they need on that side.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness looks at how well a mattress allows you to move around on it. Combination sleepers will especially appreciate this since it makes switching positions a breeze. Both mattresses had high scores in this area, with the Saatva Classic scoring an 8.5/10 and the Zenhaven scoring a 9/10.
Cooling
Hot sleepers, listen up. The Saatva Classic and Zenhaven are both excellent mattresses for regulating your temperature. They use cooling technologies to help you avoid waking up sweaty. The Saatva Classic gets its coolness from its hybrid design and organic cotton cover. Zenhaven stays cool thanks to its latex layers.
Which Is the Better Mattress for You?
At the end of the day, picking the best mattress comes down to which one meets your top requirements. To choose the right one, consider your sleeping position, sleep environment, budget, and ideal customer experience.
Sleeping Position
Being that both these mattresses come with comfort level customization, they work with every sleeping position. Side sleepers will appreciate the softer options, while stomach and back sleepers will likely enjoy the firmer options.
Since the Zenhaven comes with two firmness options in one, it can be a great option for those who aren’t sure what their preferred comfort level is. However, if the Saatva Classic appeals more to you, consider buying the medium-firm model, which works great for all sleeping styles.
Sleep Environment
Both the Zenhaven and Saatva Classic earned high-marks in our cooling evaluation, with the Saatva Classic a half point higher. If you live somewhere where it gets hot, either would make a great option.
Those who sleep with a partner or pet will want to get a mattress with excellent motion isolation so they don’t get disturbed at night. The Zenhaven and Saatva Classic scored pretty average in this category. Consider buying a mattress topper to better isolate the motion.
Budget
When it comes to budget, the Saatva Classic is the more affordable option. The Zenhaven can cost over $1,000 more than the Saatva Classic. Since Saatva focuses on selling directly to consumers online they can cut down on costs associated with typical in-store mattress brands like Tempur-Pedic.
Both mattresses come with financing options through Affirm and are eligible for Saatva seasonal coupons and deals.
Customer Service
Since both mattresses are sold through Saatva you can count on having a similar customer experience. Saatva offers a lifetime warranty and a 365-night sleep trial to help your body get used to new materials in the mattress. If during your trial you are unsatisfied, you can return your mattress for free, minus a $99 transportation fee.
Getting in contact with the Saatva customer service team is super easy. They have a live chat feature on their website and are also available by phone at 877-597-0583 and email at info@saatva.com. If you’re still torn between which mattress to pick, consider reaching out to them with any questions you may have.
