Our motion transfer score indicates how well a mattress isolates motion from one side to the other. Couples, especially, look for beds with good motion isolation because it means less disruptions during the night. The biggest score gap between these two beds is for motion transfer. The Lull mattress outperformed the T&N by 1.5 points in this category.
The Lull earned 1 point more than the T&N in the category of spinal alignment. This factor is measured by tracing the straightness of our tester’s spine as she lies on her side. For both mattresses, the tester’s spine was almost perfectly straight, but there was slightly less curve on the Lull. A mattress that promotes spinal alignment can reduce back pain, just like good posture while awake can reduce neck and back pain.
The T&N and Lull were quite close in this category—they each scored high. We evaluate pressure relief with a pressure map on the surface of the mattress. Both of these mattresses showed minimal stress on common pressure points like shoulders and hips. How? The foam cradles the tester’s body, contouring around pronounced curves.
Foam mattresses have less space for heat to escape than innerspring mattresses, which is why mattress companies like Lull and T&N add cooling technology. Both of these mattresses include gel beads, which are temperature regulating. They also use open-cell foams that are high in breathability. Both beds scored about average for cooling, with Lull edging out T&N by 0.5 points. Neither bed will sleep especially cool, but you won’t be drenched in sweat either.
Both beds work well for all sleeping positions. Side sleepers get comparable pressure relief on either bed, but better alignment on the Lull. Couples fare decidedly better on the Lull. Hot sleepers will sleep slightly cooler on the Lull. Lastly, T&N is the better pick for budget-conscious shoppers.
Deciding the best mattress for you depends on what you need the most. Go with the mattress that meets your top 2-3 priorities. If you are still on the fence, rest assured that you have over 3 months to make a final decision and will receive a full refund for returns.
With that said, we don’t think you’ll want to return either mattress. Both are highly rated among customers and received top marks across the board in our in-depth assessments.
