It warms you. It soothes you. It hugs you and holds your every curve. Is it the cuddle buddy of your dreams? It just might be. When you snuggle up under the Weighting Comforts flannel weighted blanket, your mind and body are at ease. Your attention drifts from the trials of the day and slips into relaxation.
We’ll tell you more about why we love this blanket and how it can benefit you, but first…
What is a weighted blanket?
A weighted blanket is exactly what it sounds like — a really heavy blanket. But it is more than that. Lying beneath a weighted blanket has been described as feeling like being hugged, but for your whole body.
Weighted Blankets have been used for occupational therapy for decades. This hugging sensation, also known as deep pressure touch (DPT), is a powerful tool for people who suffer from anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, or restless leg syndrome.
It’s a powerful tool for people who suffer from anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, or restless leg syndrome.
According to a study published by the NCBI in 2015, “Up to 33.7% of the population are affected by an anxiety disorder during their lifetime.” DPT promotes serotonin production, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate your sleep and relaxation hormones and has been shown to reduce nighttime levels of cortisol, a stress hormone.
The calming properties of DPT produced by weighted blankets can even aid people who are on the Autism Spectrum with stimming and keeping focus. The CDC estimates that 1 in every 68 school-aged children have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which represents a 30% increase since just 2012. According to the STAR Institute for Sensory Processing Disorder, at least 75% of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder also have a sensory processing disorder and respond well to weighted blankets and vests.
Weighting Comforts brings this soothing mechanism to your home in an affordable, approachable, and admirable way.
Our first impressions of the Weighting Comforts blanket
The blanket comes folded in a plastic cover with a thank you card that further explains the use, care, and unique qualities of the blanket. The card is easy to read and very informative.
The blanket is well made, the lines are clean, and the pellet compartments are evenly distributed. The fabric itself adds light warmth, but could be softer to the touch. If you want more heat or a softer touch, this blanket would fit perfectly over another blanket or duvet. Either way, this blanket will fit seamlessly into your relaxation routine.
At this time, the flannel blanket is only available in a cool charcoal grey. This neutral tone will match any decor, but we will all be excited when more colors and patterns are available. If you are looking for another color or a different fabric, Weighting Comforts does offer a wider variety in their Quilted and Coolmax weighted blankets.
As you will see, the blanket may have some noticeable chalk lines when you first unravel it, but they will disappear after a few washes. The great news is this blanket is machine washable!
If you have never held a weighted blanket, it might be intimidating at first. We used a 10 lb charcoal grey flannel blanket and it was still surprisingly heavy! The flannel blanket is also available in 15 and 20 lbs. But never fear, these blankets are not the medieval torture devices you might be thinking of.
Even just draping the blanket across your lap shows you how comforting the experience is. Walking around with it for an extended period of time would be uncomfortable, so the full blanket is not travel-friendly. However, that’s what the Weighting Comforts Lap Pad is for!
Kimberly B’s five-star review reflects our thoughts perfectly:
“I love my gray weighted blanket. I have restless legs after I sit down to watch tv in the evening. My blanket has helped me so much! Make sure to get the proper weight according to your body weight. It may seem heavy at first but once you settle in under your blanket, you will realize that it’s perfect for you!”
The flannel weighted blanket goes for $195 – $245 depending on weight (10 lbs, 15 lbs. or 20 lbs.). The price seems steep for a blanket – trust us, that was our initial reaction. But after spending some time with it, the price doesn’t seem so crazy. Particularly if you’re someone who suffers from anxiety or insomnia, this is much cheaper than some other medications or therapies you might already be investing in. Note: we are not suggesting that this blanket replaces any therapies, but just noting that there’s a good chance it could help.
Weighting Comforts offers a 30-day money back guarantee. If you aren’t in love with your weighted blanket, you can return it in good condition for a full refund. Weighting Comforts suggests trying out your blanket for one week to adjust your body to the weight. If it still does not serve your needs, you have the option to return your blanket within 30 days of receiving it.
Overall, we were impressed by the quality of the service and quick delivery of our Weighting Comforts flannel blanket. We were more excited to give it a try!
Late night rendezvous
Weighting Comforts claims that this blanket should help with anxiety, stress, tension, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and sensory disorders. And this blanket delivers. Though we cannot personally speak on severe symptoms of disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or menopause, we can confirm that the healing qualities of this weighted blanket are evident.
We can confirm that the healing qualities of this weighted blanket are evident.
We first tried it out by laying it across our lap in a seated position. The blanket truly does feel like a hug. The heavy weight dissipated and the blanket rested serenely over our legs. You can almost instantly feel a release of tension in your legs, and a sense of calm that radiates through your body.
“My daughter loves the blanket. Just enough weight to feel like you’re being hugged and not trapped under it.” – Cynthia W
Next, we tried laying under it for 20 minutes in bed. The blanket is large enough to encompass your entire body, but not too big to where you feel overwhelmed by it. We felt it was just warm enough to keep you cozy in a temperate environment.
All-in-all, this blanket keeps its promises and is made with love. Based on the rave reviews and our positive experience with it, it’s worth the investment.
Why we love this brand
What makes Weighting Comforts stand out is their commitment to their customers and their community. Donna Durham, the founder of Weighting Blankets, took her experience as a family therapist and grew a socially responsible brand.
Donna began hand-sewing weighted blankets for her patients, and with the help of her son Josh, she began selling them out of her garage. From there, she enlisted the help of Sew For Hope, a non-profit that provides sewing classes and materials to international refugees. So while you are getting the most relaxed sleep of your life, you can also sleep easy knowing that you are supporting both a charitable organization and a family-owned business driven by compassion.

“I wanted to buy from your company because you employ refugees in the US. The blanket is made well and it helps me fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. Thank you Weighting Comforts! I would highly recommend your product.” – Weighting Comforts Customer
Not only does Weighting Comforts care for their community, they care for you. Customers rave about Weighting Comfort’s stellar customer service. Take it from Katy F; “Great product and customer service. It was a gift and the recipient absolutely adores her weighted blanket. Weighting Comforts went the extra mile to expedite the order. Very prompt communication. Thank you kindly.” Katy is not alone. If you need more proof, take a look at their impeccable reviews.
Weighting Comforts has a loyal following, and for good reason.
Some things to keep in mind
- This is not a blanket to cuddle under with your honey. But that is certainly not a bad thing. Firstly, it’s not big enough. The blanket is 42×74 in, or twin-sized, meaning it will not drape across your king size bed.
- Secondly, it is made just for you. When you purchase a weighted blanket, you should purchase one that is approximately 10-12% of your body weight to maximize your DPT without feeling restrained. When you experience DPT, your mind refocuses on your own being. Jay M describes it like this: “My blanket is wonderful! When I have it covering me, it helps in pulling my head away from mindless cycling and focuses my awareness on what my arms and legs and shoulders and core are sensing at that moment. Such a relief!”
- Additionally, Weighting Comforts Blankets are not for children! These blankets are the right size and weight for an adult, but if you have a young child with anxiety the lap pad may be a good option. It is best to consult with a therapist to determine what weight would be best for them.
Whether you are suffering from a sensory processing disorder, or simply seeking a way to decrease your stress, Weighting Comforts has you covered. Literally. For more questions and to browse other products or reviews, check out the Weighting Comforts website or FAQ page.
