The WinkBed and DreamCloud mattresses are both luxury hybrid beds made from layers of foam and innerspring coils. While on the surface their makeup is similar, we’ll dig into the details so you can envision what it’s like to lie on each mattress.
The WinkBed mattress comes in either soft, luxury firm, or firm, with variations in both foam and coil layers delivering different firmnesses. The soft registers at a plush 4.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale, the luxury firm a 6.5, and the firm mattress a 7.5. In comparison, the DreamCloud only comes in one firmness level, medium-firm, which has a feel similar to that of the luxury firm WinkBed.
The top layer of both mattresses is a Euro pillow top made from foam that is quilted into the mattress cover. The WinkBed’s pillow top varies in softness based on the mattress firmness, with the soft allowing you to sink in and the luxury firm and firm feeling more like sleeping “on” than “in” the mattress. The DreamCloud’s comfort layers have an immediate softness, but doesn’t allow the body to sink in very far.
What most sets these beds apart is their transition layer. WinkBeds utilizes microcoils while DreamCloud boasts multiple foam layers. Greater quantities of foam make the DreamCloud better at isolating motion and cushioning pressure points. WinkBed’s microcoils add extra support and durability, perfect for plus-size sleepers.
Both mattresses have a support layer of pocketed coils. This is why both beds are responsive, have sturdy edges, and are cooler than the average mattress. However, WinkBed reinforces the lumbar region with firmer coils and foam reinforcement. The added core support is particularly beneficial for the body alignment of stomach sleepers.
Let’s take a look at what makes up each layer of the WinkBed mattress. Keep in mind that the layers differ slightly based on the firmness that you choose.
The DreamCloud luxury hybrid mattress is comprised of 5 layers of foam and coils. Let’s take a closer look.

Do you wake up when your partner moves around? If so, you’re not alone. Couples often sleep more poorly than solo sleepers, partially due to sleep interruptions caused by the other person’s movements.
Typically, innerspring mattresses spread movement due to the presence of bouncy coils, while all-foam mattresses tend to dampen motion. However, thanks to newer technology, this doesn’t always hold true. For this reason, we test every mattress that comes through our doors for its ability to isolation motion.
We found the DreamCloud to provide superior motion isolation when compared to the WinkBed. In fact, with a 6.4/10, we wouldn’t recommend the WinkBed for couples—unless you’re both sound sleepers.
Pressure relief is one of the most important factors to consider if you’re a side sleeper. A mattress needs to deliver the right amount of cushion to remove pressure from the shoulders and hips. Pressure-relieving properties are also important for other sleeping positions, particularly if you struggle with joint pain or body aches.
We use a pressure mapping film to look for problematic areas of high pressure. In this test, the DreamCloud outperformed the WinkBed mattress. However, it’s important to note that we tested the WinkBed luxury firm mattress. Generally, a softer model of the same mattress is going to deliver better cushion and pressure relief. As such, the soft WinkBed likely offers similar pressure-relieving properties as the DreamCloud.
With this in mind, we recommend the soft WinkBed for lightweight side sleepers who tend to do best on plush surfaces. The DreamCloud’s pressure-relieving properties are well-suited for heavy side sleepers and back sleepers who struggle with lower back pain.
It takes both time and money to find your perfect mattress. Once you do, it’s important for that bed to last for years without a decrease in comfort. Both the DreamCloud and WinkBed mattress earned high marks in our durability evaluation, but the WinkBed mattress scored a perfect 10/10.
The WinkBed utilizes two layers of coils and high-quality foams to create a mattress that’s likely to last more than 10 years. This durability is most important for heavy people who are more likely to experience sagging or indentations after regular use.
With 3 firmness options, the WinkBed is better for lightweight side sleepers and people who prefer a soft or firm bed. The DreamCloud is better for couples, budget shoppers, hot sleepers, and heavier side sleepers. Both beds are great for plus-size people and those with back pain.
