Saatva Classic Mattress Review Highlights

  • The Saatva hybrid bed is one of the best mattresses we’ve tested when it comes to spine alignment. A neutral spine means fewer aches and pains and deeper sleep.
  • You can choose between three firmness options. The luxury plush is soft enough for side sleepers; the luxury firm delivers a balance of soft give and reliable support ideal for the average sleeper; the firm mattress is supportive enough for stomach sleepers and heavier people.

  • With free white glove delivery that includes mattress setup and old mattress removal, setting up a new Saatva mattress is easy.
  • The lifetime warranty is one of the most generous mattress warranties we’ve encountered.
  • Saatva offers many other models, too. They offer an organic Loom & Leaf mattress, a latex ZenHaven mattress, a kid-friendly Saatva Youth mattress, an all-foam Saatva Modern Foam mattress, a natural Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress, a fully customizable Solaire mattress, and a super durable Saatva HD mattress.

Compare WinkBed and Saatva Mattress Dimensions/Sizes

The Saatva comes in two thickness profiles: 11.5” or 14.5.” The WinkBed, however, only comes in one thickness: 14.5”. A thicker mattress is great for heavy sleepers and those who like extra support. If you weigh less than 230 lbs, you don’t need a thick mattress for comfort, and a thin bed is often easier to get in and out of.

Another difference between these two beds is that tThe WinkBed doesn’t offer split king or split California king sizes. Split mattresses are an excellent option for couples who share the bed but are easily woken by movement.

Compare What’s Inside

Let’s dig into each layer of the Saatva and WinkBeds mattresses. We will share not only what each layer is made from, but how this layer influences the mattress experience.

But first, we’ll start by comparing the Saatva and WinkBeds construction. Because both mattresses are luxury beds, they follow a similar pattern in the sense that they both have several dense layers of foam and coils. The WinkBed differs mainly it its variation across its different models; the Saatva Classic has the same construction no matter which firmness level you select.

The WinkBed starts off with a Tencel cover, while Saatva has a quilted euro pillow top for its first layer. The Tencel is more breathable than Saatva’s plush pillow top, but the euro top is silky soft and offers a nice layer of cushioning. Another difference in their construction is in the coils; The WinkBed utilizes pocketed-micro coils, while the Saatva Classic uses a dual-support coil system with a layer of individually-wrapped comfort coils and a foundation of steel coils for the base.

The good news is–that you’ll get a supportive, but balanced feel with either of these mattresses. Both incorporate numerous comfort and support layers, and the materials speak for themselves when it comes to quality.

Inside The WinkBed

Inside The WinkBed Mattress

The WinkBed mattress is a luxury hybrid mattress made using premium materials. There are four mattress options, including softer, luxury firm, firmer, and plus. The WinkBed Plus is designed for sleepers who weigh more than 300 lbs.

The four Winkbeds models vary in construction to meet diverse customer needs. We will note where the construction differs below.

  1. Tencel Cover: The 100% natural Tencel mattress cover is ultra-soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking. This fabric is derived from sustainably-sourced Eucalyptus. Its feel is one that’s smooth like silk, soft like cotton, and refreshingly cool.
  2. Hypersoft Foam (1”): Quilted into the Tencel mattress cover is an ultra-soft polyfoam for a cozy, plush feel. The quilted foam and cover create a Euro-pillow top with an elegant look and sumptuous feel. The feel of this pillow top varies based on the model you choose.
  3. Cooling Comfort Layer (1”): Gel-infused polyfoam pulls heat from the body, keeping the sleeping surface cool to the touch. This gel-infused foam layer adds extra cushion for a slight hugging sensation.
  4. Micro-Coils (2.5”): Micro air-springs gently cradle the body’s curves. Because they’re pocketed, they respond individually to each area of the body. A polyfoam encasement reduces motion transfer and quiets noise. In the plus option, these micro-coils are replaced by a 7-zoned latex support system for less sagging and greater durability.
  5. Support Coils (7.5”): A thick individually-encased coil system delivers exceptional support and responsiveness. The support layer is zoned, ensuring that heavier areas of the body get enough support and that lighter areas gently sink in.
  6. Support Foam (2”): A layer of high-density polyurethane foam adds stability to the final support layer. The foam also serves to dampen motion transfer and quiet unwanted noise.

Inside the Saatva Classic Mattress

The Saatva Classic hybrid innerspring mattress consists of 5 high-quality layers. By varying the composition of the pillow top, Saatva achieves 3 different firmness options: luxury plush, luxury firm, and firm. Another option for this customizable mattress is varying mattress heights. The loftier mattress (14.5”) has a thicker innerspring transition layer than the thinner (11.5”) mattress. Look at other Saatva models here.

Here’s a breakdown of each layer in the Saatva Classic.

  1. Euro Pillow Top: The pillow top layer is the primary comfort layer in the Saatva hybrid mattress. The organic cotton cover is quilted with polyfoam for cushioning and softness. The foam within this layer varies in density and thickness to create the different firmness levels. Hypersoft foam in the luxury plush model is ultra-plush, while higher density polyfoam in the firm mattress gently cushions without sinking. The luxury firm top layer creates a balance between give and support that’s ideal for most sleepers.
  2. Memory Foam Layer: A layer of pressure-relieving memory foam adds extra contouring along the lumbar region. This layer is strategically placed to help maintain healthy body alignment.
  3. Pocket Coils: Medium-gauge coils make up the transition layer. The moderate thickness means reliable support with ample give at lighter parts of the body. Pocketed coils aren’t connected to one another, supporting motion isolation and optimal body alignment. And with tighter coils along the midsection, even heavier sleepers can enjoy a balanced feel with minimal sinkage.
  4. Support Layer: The bottom coil layer uses high-gauge steel coils that are baked for heightened strength and stability. The coil support system enhances breathability and responsiveness, resulting in a mattress that’s cool and easy to move around on. However, the two layers of coils create mediocre motion isolation
  5. Foam Edge Support: A durable foam encasement adds structure and stability, safeguarding against sagging. Because the foam is relatively cushy, every inch of the mattress’s surface is able to be comfortably slept on.

Let’s dig deeper into the factors that really separate these mattresses from one another.

Responsiveness

Responsiveness measures how well a mattress adapts to your movements. In this category, The WinkBed outperformed the Saatva Classic with an impressive score of 9 out of 10. For combination sleepers especially, I’d go with The WinkBed for its ease of movement, although the Saatva Classic wasn’t too far behind.

Edge Support

Although this is an overlooked factor, edge support is still important for measuring a bed’s ability to keep you in the middle of the mattress and maintain secure borders with little sagging. If you get dressed or tie your shoes at the edge of your bed, edge support helps you do so without sliding off.

The Saatva Classic blew us out of the water with this one; it earned a perfect 10 out of 10! The WinkBed’s edge support ranked similarly at 9.75/10 so either would perform well when sitting on the edge.

Spine Alignment

Spine alignment is important for maintaining a neutral spine position, which can help mitigate back pain and promote a healthy posture.

This is a factor Saatva really shines in; it earned a 10 out of 10. The WinkBed wasn’t too shabby in this category either, coming in at an 8.75 out of 10. Both mattresses are great picks for back and stomach sleepers in need of lumbar support.

Return Policy

Both mattresses have pretty solid return policies; WinkBed allows you to exchange your mattress for a full refund during the trial period, and Saatva’s return policy also allows you to make a free return during their 365-night sleep trial, minus a $99 transportation fee. If you think there’s a slight chance you might return your mattress, The WinkBed is the better option since there is no transportation fee.

Verdict: Which Is the Best Mattress?

Both The WinkBed mattress and Saatva Classic are hybrid beds with multiple firmness options. Each is made using layers of foam and coils to create a sleeping experience great for any sleeping position and body shape. While these luxury mattresses have a lot in common, there are slight differences that make them stand out to different customers.

The Saatva Classic is an affordable hybrid mattress that appeals to people on a budget. Its softest option is incredibly plush, making it ideal for lightweight side sleepers who need ample give. It excels at keeping the spine aligned, which is critical for sleepers with back pain.

The WinkBed hybrid mattress comes with free returns and a lifetime warranty. If you’re someone who is nervous about buying a new mattress online, The WinkBed mattress may be a better fit. We also love the plus option for sleepers who weigh over 300 lbs.

When it comes to feel, The WinkBed is noticeably bouncier than the Saatva Classic. For those who like a bouncy innerspring sensation, consider The WinkBed mattress. However, the incredible responsiveness does have its downside: motion transfer. The Saatva Classic performs better when motion isolation is involved. And with split king and California king options, the Saatva is a great fit for couples who share the bed.
